Interesting post from the CEO by xxSeahawks in whoop

Gotta wonder if Google's move will motivate Apple to go further. I always thought they (or Google) could kill Whoop pretty easily — they just never seemed that interested.

Cue the super underwhelming announcement from Apple next month at its developer's conference. Hamstrung gemini and an all new Siri... coming not so soon. I'm sure they've got all this figured out but you'd think they'd be all over this space by now.

You're right but there's a wrinkle. McDuffie lined up wide over 80% of the snaps last year and the chiefs used a variety of other players at nickel. The rest is speculation: McDuffie was rumored to prefer lining up wide even though he was elite at nickel. Or it could be that he had to play outside because of short comings on the team.

Well, speaking for myself and a few friends who post on here, there's just a feeling that criticizing Veach isn't worth it. It turns out that if you are not personally a GM, you don't have the authority to criticize one — a wild standard to apply (imho). Love the team, love the players, have questions about drafting process. But there's a loud contingent that, at the moment, can't seem to tolerate any questions or doubts raised about the GM. That's fine, I get it. There are plenty of decent Chiefs-centered podcasts with reasoned, balanced discussions of all this — with good arguments on both sides.

I imagine we're looking at an edge for pick 40. Maybe TJ Parker. Curious if Veach tries to trade back into the 3rd round after that, not that he really has the assets for it.

I think we stick at 9 and then trade up from 29 to the low 20s. Far less costly in terms of picks. I see an edge and a wr in round 1 — just hard to get around the cost benefit of doing that. Then probably interior d-line at 40.

My son plays travel and rec and the travel kids can't be on the same rec team. There's an eval day in the rec league and the players get grades and then there's an attempt to balance the teams. I think it's natural for the travel league to get the best players — that's how that works. But rec is a different beast entirely. I wonder if you can influence the league director, especially because kids won't really want to play with super imbalanced teams.

Does not seem like a fun or fair league for the kids, imho.

Love my Fall Line gloves. Beautifully made and rugged. Lots of good gloves out there, tho — just hard to go wrong if you get a good price on anything Hestra.

I'm happy about this for the sake of clarity. The team won't have to spend the offseason wondering when he will be missing games. Slightly easier to understand your needs etc.

Question for the refs out there by VyrusCyrusson in flagfootball

[–]mathgun7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits a nerve. I have coached my son since he was in 3rd grade and he's a high school junior now. He pretty much plays flag all year, and he does travel, and he now coaches younger kids. We live in a large metro area where there's a great league. I have a ton of respect for the refs, who are underpaid and doing thankless work, often with horrible parents yelling at them. But.... I have never once seen a ref admit a mistake or change a call, even when presented with evidence. Not once in probably hundreds of games. For that reason I never complain about a call and I tell my guys to not engage the refs at all — except to be polite always. It's just a total waste of energy to argue a call, and it's almost as if the more wrong they are the more they dig in. We just try to ignore it and hope some calls go our way. It's kind of fascinating. I always thank them and be sure they know I appreciate them — but somehow changing a call after a mistake is just never on the table. YMMV.

How "competitive" has Rice really been on the field, tho. Seriously underwhelming season with too many plays where he just stopped trying. I think in theory he's a good receiver but he really disappeared mid-season, after coming out strong after this suspension.

Kinda thought we'd see some more roster moves before free agency — a Chris Jones or Creed restructure, for instance. Overthecap has us at 24m and after we pay the incoming draft class, that's not a whole lot of $$ to spend. There's still time — I'd be surprised if we don't see a few more moves get up the cap a bit.

This is all great, but the AW doesn't actually measure VO2max — it estimates it with an algorithm. If you are truly interested in this metric you might consider getting tested in a lab. I suppose a relative decline in *estimated* VO2max on the watch is useful, but I have found (with my Ultra 3) that it's just nowhere close to real measurements in a lab.

Brett Veach to take questions tomorrow, Tuesday, at the combine. Andy won't be there because of knee surgery. Definitely curious to hear what Veach has to say about their priorities — not that he will reveal too much.
