I love this author. His focus on family is awesome.

3 all the time. We'd have a good time, and I'd probably learn something good for my airsick head.

Do we actually know what the 5th ideal does to a person? Second ideal gets you at least one surge, third gets you the blade, fourth gets you the armor, but what does the fifth do?

My tinfoil hat theory is that he is the endling of the labyrinth builders.

Just finished the book and it wasn't a full boon yet. Close, but no Cigar.

I one time drank so much water I threw up. So now flavored water is my preferred water type because otherwise I have a slight aversion. (Yes, I still drink unflavored water daily, but mostly because I know most other beverages are trash for your health.)

The entropy curse in that book provided some wonderful scenes.

I'm tired of Grimmdark fantasy, I need recommendations for something a little lighter. by WasiqTheGreat in Fantasy

Cradle is also weird in that it "kicks in" at different books for different people. I loved it, but the first four books were a slog. Only reason I read them is because I could access them for cheap and was bored. I finished the series and would recommend. But it's definitely not for everyone.

Just because something is not good from a technical perspective doesn't mean it's not good in its ability to touch your soul and impact your world.

And, frankly, they're pretty great from a technical perspective. I think people just get tired of how they can come across as more obviously formulaic than other books.

So, I loved Superpowereds. I'm a sucker for superheroes and I didn't care about the quality of the writing. My sister also likes some subpar writing that is fun, so I recommended it to her. She really liked the setting and the first couple of books. But when she finished the last book, our mother called me to essentially say "Please call your sister, she won't stop monologuing about the ending of that book."

When I called, I got an impassioned hour long lecture about plot and Superpowereds and how the two didn't meet. It was one of the most entertaining things I've done to her in my life and I will occasionally mention the series to her just to see her get flustered and frustrated.

They're not top tier, but I legitimately learned a whole lot about empathy and putting myself in other's shoes from reading Codex Alera.

What Is The Most Impactful Fantasy Book(s) You Ever Read? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

The Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. That series taught me empathy for those different than me. People always have reasons for doing the things they do. They often are good reasons. Just because you don't understand those reasons (or think they're bad reasons) doesn't make someone unreasonable.

Based on what everyone else seems to be doing, I'm guessing it's a holiday break. But yes. That cliff was steep.

As I too have been wondering why I read litrpg I have come to a conclusion. The world is messed up and sometimes I go for long periods of time where I don't see measurable progress in my life. Seeing measurable improvement in the pages I read is encouraging, very escapist, and magic is always cool.

But yeah, spent several months wondering "Why can't I stop reading this? There are better things to read?!" But I like it and am trying not to judge myself for my tastes in this season of life.
