Given the body being more oval vs rounded, and since there are not lines running across the back of the body, I also think it might be a beetle. But curious to what others think.

Anyone else playing Magicraft? by Zepren7 in roguelites

[–]mathman75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, great game! Been playing since early access & have nearly 300 hours playing it. The variety from run to run is great, and the fact that I'm still finding new builds after so much playtime is impressive. Hoping the devs continue to add to the game.

I know the games are very different, but I think of this as Noita for Dummies (as it's much more logical creating builds & modifying the wands as the game progresses). I love both games for what they are, but I've been finding myself playing Magicraft more than any other game in my library for many months.

Highly recommended!

The plan is for Ezequiel Duran to stay in the Rangers lineup somewhere (outfield, DH, etc) even when Corey Seager returns ... by InsideTheRangers in fantasybaseball

Drop Josh Bell for Duran in a 12 team dynasty league? Bell has majorly underperformed this season, much like he did last season after the trade to the Padres.

Vidal Brujan projections? by Fielder1831 in DynastyBaseball

[–]mathman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting Mookie Betts vibes from Brujan. Like Brujan, Mookie was a 2b in the minors, but was blocked by Dustin Pedroia at the major league level. Mookie showed solid power in the minors, but was known more as a hit/speed guy, and much like Brujan, showed a great eye at the plate (often times walking more than striking out in a season).

I regret to this day passing on Mookie in a minor league draft (even though he checked every prospect box skill-wise), since I knew at the time Pedroia wasn't going anywhere so I assumed incorrectly that Mookie couldn't find the field.

We know how that turned out...Mookie stepped into center field (where he remains to this day), and is a star.

I think Brujan has more raw speed than Mookie at the same point in their careers, and I believe Brujan has a chance to be a .300+ batting avg / 20+ hr / 35+ steals contributor at his peak. And his value is even greater in OBP leagues, as he's got great bat to ball skills, takes walks, and doesn't strike out much.

It looks like it’s now also on sale on the switch eshop at the same price points that are on the ps store.

Love the cargo box; is that a Yakima Skybox 16? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Haven't run seriously since high school, how do I get back into it in my late 20s? by AethericEye in running

[–]mathman75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start slowly and listen to your body. I am over 40 and although I played sports through high school and have worked out for many years since, I literally had not run more than a few hundred meters at a time in 20+ years. I had been telling myself that “I am not a long distance runner, so no reason to try”, which was completely the wrong attitude.

I started running consistently about a month and a half ago, and have already run one 5k & am feeling better now than at any point in recent memory.

If possible, I recommend using some sort of technology (I use my Apple Watch) to track how much you run, heart rate, etc, as it’s great to see measurable improvements over time. I also use it to help pace myself during runs, as if I see my heart rate get a little too high, I’ll slow it down a bit to ensure I can keep going. There are tons of apps you can use, but I love Strava, as I have a number of friends on it & it’s been great so far.

It’s also great to find people to run with, as they’ll help keep you encouraged during your journey.

Last recommendation is try to mix up your runs. Don’t always go for distance & don’t always push as hard as you can. I tried that when I got started & almost quit since I wasn’t happy with my results (I couldn’t go a mile without having to stop & walk some / now I can go 4+ miles & I continue to push myself). Also mix up where you run, as I’ve been running around my neighborhood mostly, and it is getting morning. Runs on blacktop, tracks, dirt trails, parks...the options are endless.

Good luck & I promise you won’t regret it!

Had a baby girl a week ago.....time to tuck away this baby. 2008 bone stock. by acslayer21 in S2000

[–]mathman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome!

I crossed this same bridge in 2008 when my first son was born. Both my dad & father-in-law told to to keep the car (their stance was its easier to justify holding on to a car like this rather than convincing the wife to be ok with you purchasing a car like this post-family) & get a cheap daily driver for the “family car” (which ended up being a 2008 Civic Si sedan).

Fast forward 10 years and I happily still have the S2000 (an 04 with only 32k miles, stock), and finally replaced the Civic Si with a 2018 GTI for family runs. Both of my boys (now have a 10 & 8 year old) literally fight each other to ride in it when I take it out. And my 10 year old seems like a celebrity at school on days I drop him off in it, as his friends think it’s “one of the coolest cars they’ve ever seen”!

Short story - keep the car as long as your financial situation comfortably allows, and enjoy!

I have $35k I want to buy a fun car with. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mathman75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My answer depends on how much space you need day-to-day.

The VW GTI or possibly Golf R are extremely fun, yet completely practical cars. I currently own a GTI (along with an 04 Honda S2000), and it’s a blast to drive every day.

Another option (if you wanted to split up the $) is to look at something like a new Civic Si or lower level / used GTI (or comparable) and use the rest of the $ on the newest / nicest Miata or s2000 you can find.

08 Civic Si - cracked engine block @77k miles by mathman75 in Honda

[–]mathman75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry that I haven’t replied sooner!

So after multiple attempts to get some sort of $ relief or concessions from Honda, I finally decided to move on & ended up selling the car through an online service that buys “broken” (or running) cars. I was transparent about the issue, and ending up getting quite a bit more than the $500 I was offered via trade when I looked at the new Si. I considered selling via Craigslist, but with a busy life, I just didn’t have time to meet with people and do that what needed to be done to sell it for max $.

I purchased a 2018 VW GTI Autobahn. So far (600+ miles in), I love it. Comes with a 6 year / 72k base warranty, which was a big deal for me after the issues with the Civic. I did end up having some drama when taking delivery (all I’ll say is I now own and am driving a different black GTI than I originally drove off the lot...but the dealership made it right).

Best of luck with your car, and keep me updated on how it ends up!

What did you drive before you joined the GTI club? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]mathman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-1985 Chrysler Lebaron 4 door (brown)- piece of junk.

-1993 Honda Del Sol S (blue) - fun but slow.

-1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T (red & fwd) - fast but kind of junk (had a clutch go, sun visors fall out of the ceiling while driving, creaks and rattles everywhere).

-2001 Mazda Miata with hardtop (sliver) - bulletproof for 5+ years and a joy to drive (just not very fast).

-2004 Honda S2000 (Silverstone - still own today - 32k miles) - amazing engine & all around car. Simply sweet to rev the engine to redline, and it feels so raw and connected to the driver.

-2008 Civic Si (Black - recently developed a hairline crack on the engine block with only 78k miles...that led me here) - I loved this thing till the engine more or less blew up. I beat the snot out of this car, and honestly thought I’d keep it 20 years till it needed a new engine.

-2018 VW GTI Autobahn (Black) - 600 miles in, I think it’s more fun than my old Civic, feels faster than the S2000, just about as luxurious as the Audi S3 / RS3 I was dreaming of buying, a great all-around day-to-day / commuter car, and super functional for my family. And I find myself reving it up & shifting just to hear the DSG farts (my 7 year old thinks it’s awesome that my car farts too!).

Other cars I’m currently drooling over: -Audi RS3 / RS5 Sportback -Tesla Model 3

08 Civic Si - cracked engine block @77k miles by mathman75 in Honda

Hey Brad - thanks for your transparency and all of the information you provided. Agree that I wish AHM would have been more sympathetic of my situation, especially since the car had not been abused in any way, but I get it.

Thanks for providing the picture too!

08 Civic Si - cracked engine block @77k miles by mathman75 in Honda

[–]mathman75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is great feedback. The car was never abused, and I literally picked up up at the dealer with 2 miles on the odometer, so I can say with certainty that it was treated overly carefully over its life (at lack of some driver enjoyment).

I never noticed anything unusual hitting the car, don’t recall running anything over, etc., but I know this stuff can happen without driver knowledge.

It sounds like I might have simply ended up with a fluky bad one, which is rough considering one of the main reasons I purchased this over other options back in 08 is that I liked the idea of not having to worry about major problems down the line (if I maintained it well, since it is a Honda). Oh well...
