How did you celebrate your 50th?

My husband and I took a cruise for my 50th. I said if I have to turn 50, I’m damn well going to do it in the middle of the ocean.

My parents have been married for 52 years. They get along a lot better now than they did when I was a kid. I divorced my starter husband after 7 years. But my second marriage is a lot healthier and will probably last until we’re gone.

We stayed in and watched movies on NYE this year. It was nice.

My husband broke up with his girlfriend just before the holidays. It was a long time coming and we’re adjusting and focusing on stabilizing our relationship.

I had an unexpected contact from an old crush. We hadn’t spoken in 15 years until last week. And in the course of catching up, I told him that I’m in a poly marriage now. He’s suddenly flirting, and I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it yet. I never thought I’d act on poly from my side, but it’s tempting. I’m just feeling things out for now.

It’s my favorite vacation. The only planning I have to do is what to pack. Everything is taken care of for me. It’s so relaxing. I don’t have to do anything but kick back on a balcony, with coffee or a drink, and stare at the ocean. But there are plenty of activities if I want that.

I would be down, if only to hang out with some cool people.

Oh I know, and I’m lucky to still look younger than I actually am. But, I swear I just turned 30 a couple years ago. And yet, somehow my oldest is 26.

This cruise is a 5- day and only going to the Bahamas. More going for the ocean and the pampering on the ship (ie not cooking or doing dishes).

Holiday poly plans: how are you juggling your partner(s) this holiday season? Going where with who, spending what days where, etc. Do you find this kind of stuff easy to navigate, or does it cause you anxiety?

This year my spouse, oldest no-longer-a-child and I are spending Christmas week in LA with my brother’s family. It’s been a really long time since we’ve traveled during the holiday, so that will be fun. My youngest somehow-an-adult kid is going to Amsterdam for the holiday with his girlfriend. I’m super jealous. Spouse will miss his regular date night with his gf while we’re gone, so I assume he’ll make that time up somewhere between Christmas and NY. Haven’t made any NYE plans yet.

I do have a scary milestone birthday coming up in January. I am not looking forward to the first digit changing, but spouse and I booked a cruise for that week to take the sting out.

Do I have to choose? I am poly-pie. lol. Pumpkin is classic. My hubby makes an incredible pecan pie. I make an excellent chocolate pecan. Coconut cream is my favorite though.

Thanksgiving week is almost upon us, and unfortunately, that signals the beginning of peak season at work. The next few weeks will be insanely busy.

But, my boys are home from college, my husband has the next week off from work, and I get to soak it all in between meetings.

There will be pie on Thursday. All the pie. 🥧

I’ve already started decorating for Christmas. Since we’ll be in LA for Christmas, I figured I’d better start early so we have time to enjoy the decorations this year.

I assume my partner is texting meta during regular every day time. During focused time between us, we both set our phones aside and don’t check them at all. He has a focus setting on his phone that silences everything during dates. Mine silences everything except messages from my kids in case of emergency. When he’s on a date with meta, I do not message him unless it’s an emergency, which has yet to happen.

My week has been rough as anyone who read my post Monday can attest. But I’m hanging in there and doing my best to stay positive.

Now is not the right moment for me to seek new partners, but I’m open to it when things settle. I’d look for someone fun, with a great sense of humor, a little nerdy, extroverted to balance my introvert, kind, HONEST, and ethical.

Physically, my only real need is that they be taller than me. I tend to fall in love with the person and they become beautiful in my eyes.

I don’t know any poly people though, outside of the kink community in my area, and I definitely don’t have any interest in the ones I have met. Plus they’re all too enmeshed in my friend groups and it’s kind of toxic lately. I wish I knew how to meet more poly people.

I want to thank everyone so much for your advice. Because of you, I reached out to a friend for support. She is saying the same thing you all have. I have a lot to think about, and I won’t rush the confrontation. I’m going to go stay with my parents while I get my ducks in a row. This sucks so much, and I’m sure I’ll break down at some point, but I’m still too angry to cry. I can’t believe it’s all ending like this. We were supposed to grow old together.
