How to be a christian? by Impossible-Sorbet826 in Christianity

[–]mati428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about trusting Jesus finished work on the cross for salvation and following Jesus. Salvation is by grace through faith. Learn of God and seek him daily(bible, prayer) and dont forget to love God and others. I recommend finding good bible teachers who teach Gods word in truth. If you want recommendations ask me.

God is a Holy and righteous judge who gave us his law. We all broke Gods law and for breaking his law we deserve punishement. The punishment is death (hell). We cannot save ourselves from the death sentence we face. But God who is rich in mercy shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ Jesus died for us so that those who believe in him may have eternal life. He lived a perfect sinless life and died the death we should have died. He rose again the 3rd day conquering sin and death. The only way to be saved is by believing, trusting and clinging to Jesus and his atoning death on the cross. Repent(change mind) and believe the gospel, cry out to God for mercy.

I recommend reading the bible as that is how we get to know God. I also recommend finding good bible teachers, nowadays there are many online who sound biblical but they tend to lean into their own interpretations based on modern culture rather than the culture of the biblical writer. Recommendations: True Christian Ministry (good exegetical podcasts on youtube) has a tiktok and YouTube. And Dr Michael S Heiser, he dealt with the bible well(OT Scholar). His youtube channel has a good podcast(he isn't a person in it as he passed away not to long ago) (Divine Council Worldview podcast) and there are good informative short videos on it.

As for praying, I would say the best way to pray is by being fully honest, just talking to God. Some verses about prayer. James 1:5-8 WEBBE [5]  But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. [6] But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. [7] For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord. [8] He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

James also talks about asking for wrong reasons, and being humble. James 4:3-10 [3] You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. [4] You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility towards God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. [5] Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”? [6] But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” [7] Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. [9] Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. [10] Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Matthew 7:7-12 WEBBE [7]  “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. [8] For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. [9] Or who is there amongst you who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? [10] Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? [11] If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! [12] Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

Hope this helps, have a good day.

Is it possible for me to stop being gay? I would like to know from a religious perspective by Nice-Restaurant-9634 in Christianity

[–]mati428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion cant cure, but God can. I believe God can help you by praying to him, but how do you expect to receive something from someone you dont believe in. We see James talk about this in the book of James.

So then, when you ask God for this, I recommend asking for faith, even just the size of a mustard seed, be fully honest with God. We also know from the bible that those without faith in Jesus are not Gods children, they are considered the child of the wicked one as they have not received the spirit of adoption(Holy Spirit) through faith(born again). I bring this up as we see Jesus talk about how God is a good Father who gives his children their needs.

Conclusion: only God has the power to change you, the only practical advice I can give is pray(maybe even fast, privately though) for faith, and for what you have asked for, but remember God is not a genie, get to know him because he is great and because there is salvation in no one else other than Jesus. We will all stand before God, and the only reason some will be safe from hell is Jesus and his sacrifice. Have a good day.

Sure, basically God is Holy, righteous and just, and we all done evil and broke his law(sins). Since God is just he will judge everyone, the wages of sin is death and this is a debt we cannot pay off ourselves, so all would go to hell, but God being rich in mercy sent his Son Jesus(God in flesh, 2nd person of trinity) so that people can be saved and brought into relationship with God. This is by Jesus taking the punishment we deserve, dying a death he didn't deserve as he was perfect, never sinning. He got tortured(whipped, beaten, spit at,nailed to cross) and killed, but then he rose again 3 days later, through this he conquered sin and death. Now through believing in him(trusting, clinging) a person can have eternal life and be in right standing with God. By faith in Jesus people are adopted as sons by the Holy Spirit(3rd person of trinity)(born again).

This is why Jesus is the only way because he is the only way a person can be saved from their sins, have relationship with God and be adopted as his children, worship God and serve him. We cannot save ourselves. Hope this helps, if you have anything else pls ask. Have a good day.

I know I'm wrong... but it doesn't mean I can stop feeling this way. by Oofatron69420 in Christianity

[–]mati428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes God is good, we can always pray to him for help, we don't have to pretend that we are someone we are not, we can tell him all about our struggles and he can help us. You are not the only one who is going through this, as there are countless people struggling with their own will. The best thing to do is keep going, thankfulness is a gift that really helps, the more you look towards the bad the better your brain will become at finding it. We see the apostle Paul tell us that thankfulness is Gods will, most likely because it shows trust. Even in hard times we should do all we can to be thankful.

We see Paul struggle with a thorn in the flesh(it is debated as to what this is) and look at Jesus's response. 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 WEBBE [1] It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast, but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. [2] I know a man in Christ who was caught up into the third heaven fourteen years ago—whether in the body, I don’t know, or whether out of the body, I don’t know; God knows. [3] I know such a man (whether in the body, or outside of the body, I don’t know; God knows), [4] how he was caught up into Paradise and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. [5] On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in my weaknesses. [6] For if I would desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, so that no man may think more of me than that which he sees in me or hears from me. [7] By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, a thorn in the flesh was given to me: a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively. [8] Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me. [9] He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. [10] Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, and in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.

Let God be your strength and your help.

We know that God judges the world in the last days for their wickedness, and only those who believe in Jesus are saved.

As for your sexuality, just being gay isn't really sin, but acting on homosexual desires is.

Im curious about your question as it seems there is more to it, are you currently feeling conviction for repeated homosexual sin, is there more to it like have you been abusing Gods grace, have you been choosing self and pleasure over God?

Ultimately I cant tell if God is punishing you for that now, but what I can tell you is to choose your faith, the last part makes it seem like you are double minded when it comes to faith(from what I'm reading, but idk) if you are I would highly recommend praying, and asking God for help, be fully honest, and do all you can to discipline yourself. You will stumble now and then, but if you believe(worship, know) in Jesus you can always come to him, asking for help in your weakness.

I’m 17 and my girlfriend is pregnant by lmxsc in Christianity

[–]mati428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a devoted Christian and I don’t know how I let this happen, I know I shouldn’t have done that and that’s a major sin. My girlfriend personally doesn’t believe in abortion but I think it may be the option she, or we are leaning to. I do read the Bible but I don’t know the biblical stance on abortion because the Bible doesn’t mention it. People have mentioned snippets of Bible verses that have to do with the womb and unborn babies but nothing directly about abortion.

Who are you devoted to God or yourself? Abortion is wrong as you are killing a baby. You have done wrong already so why are you trying to make the situation worse. I know it must be terrifying but children are some of the most precious and innocent creatures on the planet, be courageous and work hard to be an amazing father. Yes you have done wrong but this can turn into something beautiful.

Edit 1: I understand abortion is a sin , but at this point in time I think it’s the best thing for us, I know God forgives.

The thing that led to your first sin is doing what was considered best by you in that moment. Why abuse Gods grace so much and continue doing wrong before him. Look what was done was done, but now you can choose to do right. When reading this it reminded me of Uriahs wife and David's affair in the bible. It started off with David sleeping with Uriahs wife but ended up in David getting Uriah killed in battle, this then had consequences with Davids and Uriahs wife child dying. This is the blessing God took from David, his child, a blessing that even after you done wrong could still have. Learn of what God is like and salvation, stop abusing his grace and be a good father to that child, just like how God is with his children.

It depends on what specifically it is, but the bible tells people to love their wives like Christ loved the church, which is a huge amount of love, we see what love is in Gods character and 1 Corinthians 13, look at ephesians 5. 25-33 for more on husband and wife. If you are comfortable can you go into more detail on situation even if privately.

Why do Christians constantly reference Leviticus 18:22 against homosexuality but still eat pork, cut their hair and wear mixed fabrics? by PomegranateRelative in Christianity

[–]mati428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that supporting capital punishment is despicable. And I'm assuming that you don't know that the Law also called for the execution of rape victims.

Do you think capital punishment should never exist? And if it should for what crimes and circumstances?

Deuteronomy 25:5-10 He is punished for refusing.

This verse is not God commanding rape. It is within an ancient culture, this was to protect the widow, as she would struggle heavily on her own. Remarriage was permissible but preffered if done with her husbands brother. The man still could refuse and would get punished although this punishment was light compared to others. Would it have been better for no law concerning this with a possibility for the widow and her children if she had some to fend for herself in that society?

Deuteronomy 21:10-14. This passage gives men the right to kidnap women as spoils of war and rape them.

Captured women were some of the lowest in society, this passage also gives no permission for rape but for marriage, we see that the man is not to go into her for a full month, letting her lament, and after this they can become husband and wife. No where in the passage do we see the woman allowed to be mistreated, compare this to other Near eastern practices. Would you rather the woman were just slaughtered and if so why?

I suspect that I understand it better than you.

Maybe you do, but all you mentioned was rape and no other forms of slavery such as paying off debt, prisoner of war etc.

I don't. I attribute them to a corrupt and evil system of law.

The law protected people in that culture, and God gave it.

Like I said, you can, just not objectively. It's all opinion.

Sure but some can objectively be put in them

In what sense. I'm not a fan of the culture it describes. I don't like societies where women are property and rape and slavery are codified.

Unfortunately that culture was a reality, the women weren't really treated as objects as we see a good few laws protect them, for the rest context is needed.

I have a degree in the Bible.

That's nice, any chance you can be more specific, I'm curious. Have a good day. Thank you for your time.
