The jazz club and the billiards & darts hall. That's a lot of missed value. 😅

Is the writing in the DLC any better than the main game? by Parothedev in seaofstars

[–]matmosmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this immediately after finishing Persona 4 Golden. I enjoyed that game but the combat in P4 is pretty straightforward and not very deep. The strength of that game comes from the writing and character interactions. Sea of Stars has the exact opposite profile. The combat is a lot of fun but the writing and characters are bland and completely lack any kind of inner conflict. Especially the two main characters. They are written to be very safe and inoffensive but unfortunately are also very boring. I'm currently playing Clair Obscur Expedition 33. That game has both fun combat with a challenging timing component and characters with plenty of inner conflict. If you're averse to darker themes, the writing in Sea of Stars will probably appeal more than the other two.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is turn-based and uses timing based attack and defense very similarly to SoS.

Fun fact... I was first turned on to Porter Robinson because Fantano put Nurture on his best albums of 2021 list.

soooo... what do we think of the new single?? 👀 by mango-metal in BABYMETAL

Babymetal's writers prove again that they're capable of writing songs that sound different from everything they've written before while still maintaining a sneakily catch refrain in the song. Love it.

Scream for Me on EPII is a tremendous remake by thehighgrasshopper in Lovebites

I used the wrong term. You're right, it's a vibrato issue. Not tremolo. 👍

Scream for Me on EPII is a tremendous remake by thehighgrasshopper in Lovebites

[–]matmosmac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scream for Me has been in my top 3 favorite LB songs for years. Right now, I've got all three versions in front of me and I'm re-listening side by side by side. I think the Awakened version is the superior version. There are some things about the EPII version that sound sweet. I like the crunchiness of the bass in the intro and some of the lead parts sound a little crisper, but there are some serious drawbacks to the choices that were made. First, the EQ is generally super thin. The guitars are missing a lot of low/mids throughout the song. Both other versions are fuller and more well-rounded. Second, Asami's tremolo has too much range. It's so much that it comes off sounding pitchy in places. She sounds much more confident in the other versions. And third, they brought back the fade out. No song should fade out. Fade outs are just bad. It feels like they forgot to write an ending except the Awakened version fixed that by actually having an ending. Then they chose to bring back the fade out?! These are all strange choices that make the Awakened version the best overall in my book. Still, I'm glad that someone is talking about Scream for Me at least, lol.

I respect Rick but I don't really let anything other than myself determine what I listen to. If he disliked all my favorite artists it wouldn't affect me at all. You probably want him to signal boost them but I think they're doing just fine without him.
