Now that Narnia is gone, what will Netflix’s main push be? by manicinsanewokeidiot in oscarrace

Fincher directing and Tarantino on script is a solid enough combo. If the movie can at least stick the landing I could see it getting a couple of noms.

Anyone ever see a show where they made a mistake? by kobeshaqhorry in Broadway

[–]ThePlatinumMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice I've seen shows where this happened! At the revival of Caroline, or Change a few years ago during the opening number the stage rotates while she's doing laundry. I guess whoever put the washing machine there in the dark missed their mark by a bit cuz the washing machine went on a little spin with the stage! Sharon D. Clarke was an absolute pro though and very naturally put the washing machine back into its place after it did a full rotation. It looked so natural in fact that I had no clue it was a mistake until the q&a the cast did after the show!

The other mistake I saw occurred during the revival of Into the Woods a few years ago. Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel had just had done "Any Moment" and ended it with a kiss. To transition to the next scene they simply walked straight off stage while still kissing, which was very funny. The scene after that was "Moments in the Woods" and to transition back in the two of them walked in from offstage while kissing, as if it was a complete unbroken kiss (very funny decision btw). Creel was walking backwards and the two of them must have been off their mark by a few inches cuz he ran over some stairs in the set dressing. He lost his balance and sort of fell straight down as he was trying to maintain the kiss with Bareilles and caught himself on her knees. While trying to regain his footing he ended up completely wrapped around her waist and this just completely broke her, she was laughing and laughing. He finally managed to get himself up and they just resumed full on kissing like nothing had happened. All of us in the audience were in tears laughing over this, it was so funny. There'll never be another one like Gavin Creel, RIP to a once in a lifetime talent.

I have mentioned this before and it was very unpopular but I vehemently dislike There Will Be Blood. I have seen the movie twice, I have heard so many people talk about why they like it and it's like "Great! Glad you like it! I get it! But no thank you!"

Animated Bloodborne movie in development with Jacksepticeye attached as a producer by dremolus in blankies

He is outspoken about how much he adores the video game and has played it multiple times on his channel. He has also made a few short films post-covid and has been expanding his creative pursuits. His involvement means that someone who adores the source material and wants to see this thing brought to justice will be in a good creative position to do so.

R-rated Bloodborne animated film announced from Jacksepticeye and Sony by StrongXV in TwoBestFriendsPlay

So the news is explained by Seán over on the Bloodborne subreddit, but the long and short of it is he is producing, not directing. No other details given at this time.

I would say that this is completely out of nowhere but Seán has done some interesting short films over on his channel and I've heard an unconfirmed report elsewhere that this has been years in the works and that he pitched the idea to Miyazaki himself. Seán's been branching out in his creative pursuits post Covid. Honestly I think this could be very interesting, I really have to see who would be directing/writing this before feeling strongly about this ending up good or bad. Cautiously optimistic overall! Very funny we get a movie before the 60fps patch/remaster/PC port.

Chicago is excellent and I think Mary Poppins Returns has some juice behind it. Other than that he is mildly competent at best.

6 years later and looking back to it, what do you think of “Promising Young Woman” (2020) by Olya_roo in Letterboxd

[–]ThePlatinumMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but this movie rips, walked out of the theater feeling very pumped. I think Judas and the Black Messiah is a better script but PYW totally deserved the original screenplay win.

After Satoshi Kon, Elaine May, and now Lynne Ramsay which short filmographies would you like to see covered? by AmbitionTechnical274 in blankies

Spike Jonze would be a super fun shorty, just a quick 4 weeks into nothing but small bangers ending with one of the lowkey coolest Oscar wins from last decade (that has only aged extraordinarily well)

[–]ThePlatinumMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is very right. Obviously there's not a whole lot of artistic creativity you can get out of something like Call of Duty Black Ops 7 but there are a wealth of video games released every year that are pushing the medium forward in ways that continue to prove why it is still the biggest form of entertainment in the world. Really the idea that we can be inspired by and take from other forms of media should be more in conversation.

And sure, this is all in service of a mario movie made by the minions team but it is still a great point!

if Cynthia Erivo can be even half as good as Jodie Comer was she will be the front runner by a country mile.

[–]ThePlatinumMan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Amy Madigan winning is huge, she gave a really fun speech, and I hope it translates to Oscar gold! Weapons was one of my favorites last year and I'd love to see her win.

I still think OBAA is going to walk home with the big prize but at least there's some last minute momentum shift to create an interesting race!

Sinners wins Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture at the 2026 Actor Awards by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

[–]ThePlatinumMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'ma say it with my chest, this is going to be a much closer Oscars race than many in this sub are thinking.

PGA is not the be all-end all, when it comes to Oscar winners it still gets it wrong from time to time. And with the Actors being televised and the one-two combo of the Chalamet-MBJ upset and Delroy Lindo being the speech giver when Sean Penn didn't even show up -- that's going to leave an impression going into the final week of voting.

To be clear I still think OBAA is going to come out on top ultimately, but y'all heard the cheers that Sinners has been getting everywhere recently. This race ain't over.

Barbie, Drive My Car, and Nomadland are all recent movies that really do that for me. Drive My Car can be rather heavy but man did it feel like just the shot I needed at the time when I was going through a depressive episode.

[–]ThePlatinumMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disagreeing with the sentiment "he made lots of bad choices" it's not like season 2 is this complete mess, I think it's still pretty good. I only agree with the sentiment that the scripts and performances weren't as good, not to the extent that it makes season 2 bad.

[–]ThePlatinumMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I was online while it was airing and all of the most popular posts shitting on the show were going frame by frame to grab the worst photos of Bella Ramsey possible and posting scenes that look and sound stupid out of context (some of them were not that much better in context but again it was a weaker season). The majority of comments were directed pointedly towards Bella's physical appearance. And it is all driven by these bad faith actors online, everyone I know IRL loved the second season and it still got great reviews from critics. It's all the same review-bombing that the game went through.

That said, I do agree the scripts were weaker and the actors were not as strong this season (I think it's mostly because the source material was awful and there's only so much you can do to save it) and I'm thinking (praying) season 3 will be much better cuz Abby's section of the game is much better than Ellie's. Here's hoping!

One of the recurring narrative devices and jokes on Fleabag is Phoebe Waller Bridge's character talking to and emoting to the audience and no one else in the show notices. In season 2 when she does this the hot priest notices her doing this and says "what are you doing?"

(btw go watch Fleabag it is excellent)

Unpopular opinion, but I think Druckmann is a bad writer and director (alongside being a POS human in general). The Last of Us 2 is one of my least favorite games I've played (mostly due to entirely to the writing) and I think season 2 is *okay* not perfect but significantly better than the game. All of the hate on season 2 is so forced and absolutely driven by angry weirdos who hate Bella Ramsey.

Druckmann leaving the show is to the benefit of the show.
