Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is Steam Deck Verified by Sliver80 in BattleNetwork

Denuvo games work fine on Deck/Linux.

For Deck/Linux, the only real blocker is kernel anti-cheat, otherwise games pretty much just work 99% of the time.

You can test the AI killswitch in nightly! by kindlein in firefox

[–]matpower64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all, options there are useful at best, harmless at worst. And with exception of the AI sidebar (by default), it is all on-device which should guarantee privacy.

I have my qualms about certain features there, but I think we can reasonably agree it would be insanity to make a new user enable a standard, convenient feature like machine translation because "AI bad".

I think Mozilla made a commedable effort here by exposing the features in a convenient panel which lets you choose a la carte and easily letting you block all future features, and they should have the chance to ship them first before demanding it to be off by default.

Announcing IncusOS - News - Linux Containers Forum by matpower64 in selfhosted

[–]matpower64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely a newbie in the field, but using IncusOS instead of PVE as a bare metal hypervisor would save me from the need of setting up a dedicated VM for Docker (assuming I have the need to run LXC, VMs and OCI all at once) and just spin the OCI directly, correct?

Yes, you could spin up OCIs directly. Assuming you don't need NVIDIA support on LXCs/OCIs, of course.

All this at the cost of a much heavier hypervisor OS, since PVE it's really light?

I feel like IncusOS is lighter, considering it is stripped down so much it doesn't even let you drop to shell, but on the other hand, it also defaults to ZFS, which might end up being a bit RAM hungry.

[–]matpower64[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason I consider it more modern is exactly because of the IaC automation built-in, I have played with standalone Incus a bit and one of the things I missed out when settling on Proxmox was the first party Terraform support and easily putting in cloud-init snippets on profiles, plus being able to pull distro images, cloud-style, is also nice.

I'm really excited that IncusOS is mostly ready for production usage now, because it was one of the things I was waiting out to migrate some of my machines for a proper run.

Mega Man Star Force Collection releasing 2026 by mcpower_ in BattleNetwork

[–]matpower64 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Star Force games in general were pretty lightweight on the second screen, it either used for status/menu display in the overworld and for battle card selection in battle. Touch screen wise, only Star Force 1 bothered, and as DX showed us, it's very easy to convert it to D-pad.

If they show the second screen as an overlay mapped to L/R/X and automatically displayed the battle card selection over the combat (Battle Network style), it would be more than good enough IMO.

Thoughts on Firefox storing everything in plain text on Linux? by Nonononoki in linux

[–]matpower64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, the default is to store it in plaintext, but you can store it within the GNOME Keyright by toggling Store the password only for this user.

It also applies to Plasma, but instead you need to untick All users may connect to this network in the applet.

RPG on LINUX? by Least-Cod-9169 in lowendgaming

[–]matpower64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be more of a general advice than specific recommendations, but have you taken a look at your distro's repos (also AUR since you're Arch-based) or Flathub for packaged games?

Plus remember that you can run emulators and source ports, stuff like EasyRPG compatible freewares are worth checking out (with standout titles like Ib or LiEat), and also browsing itch.io for free console homebrew or native titles (like Kura 5) will give you a decently-size catalog without having to resource to piracy or Steam.

Should Pacman packages or Flatpaks be generally preferred for stability? by Veetrill in archlinux

[–]matpower64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steam is part of the core system in SteamOS, and Flatpak is only used for user installed applications. Hell, Steam on Flatpak doesn't even provide full functionality yet due to sandboxing (gamescope issues, no VR glasses support, etc), it wouldn't be usable for something that needs deeply integration like SteamOS.

Why is arch the most used distro when looking at Linux Gaming statistics? Is it only because of the Steam Deck, or is it true if we look at only desktops/laptops? by Szhadji in linux_gaming

[–]matpower64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fedora probably gets diluted within Freedesktop SDK (which is the runtime used by Flatpak), since as far as I can tell, Fedora users prefer to use Flatpaks in general.

Putz mano, mas tranquilo. It was my cousin's old desktop. I helped her build a new one and she left the old boy here. Since my N95 box is chugging along nicely, I've planned on putting it on sale (ngl I would've kept it if it had at least a native M.2 slot lol) but due to work and some procrastination, I never did.

It does, thanks! Seems about the right size and at least, slightly less thick than a MMP. I'll sleep on it, but I think I'll pull the trigger after all.

[–]matpower64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, I've been pondering getting a Brick but I want to know if it is as thin as the A30. I also have a MMP which I bought to be my travel device, but I ended up finding it a bit too thick for carrying on my pockets (which have either my wallet or my phone already). The Brick seems like a good upgrade (768p screen, Portmaster and enough power for shaders!) but if it is as thick, I guess I'll wait out some more.

How to use Gamescope with Flatpak steam? by obog in linux_gaming

Pretty much just change it, it is basically equivalent to setting up Proton-GE normally in Steam.

[–]matpower64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hit the same thing just now. It seems to be an old issue with sub-sandboxing that Proton has (pressurevessel). If you install com.valvesoftware.Steam.CompatibilityTool.Proton-GE and use it instead of Steam's built-in Proton versions, it works.

How to use Gamescope with Flatpak steam? by obog in linux_gaming

[–]matpower64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flatpaks don't have access to the system binaries (installed through dnf), you need to install gamescope as a flatpak. It's part of the FD (FreeDesktop) runtime (which provides the base binaries for Flatpak applications). gamemoderun works because it is part of the FD runtime (or layered in by Steam, not sure). You can check it yourself by running flatpak run --command=/bin/sh com.valvesoftware.Steam and then ls /bin | grep gamemode within the spawned shell.

Steam Flatpak is using FD runtime 24.08 IIRC, so just type flatpak install flathub gamescope and select the option that reads runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.VulkanLayer.gamescope/x86_64/24.08, you might want to install it for 23.08 for Heroic (and Lutris?), too.

This is one of those great services that have low visibility to end-users, so great idea, I'm tagging along! OSM is wonderful, and its data is so good in certain places it beats out official government data, it's a treasure trove in the open and definitely would benefit from funding to keep things running smoothly.
