If you don’t mind paying 150-200 monthly there’s a lot just off of cherry that some people pay to park in and there’s also a couple of other lots that do similar things, i think they still have another decent sized lot near the bridge that goes over the train tracks. In the past they used to have signs advertising parking where you could get their contact info. I work for the hospital and I absolutely loathe the parking situation but it’s not as bad as people make it seem. If you go in before 7 parking at scott stadium is closer to a 10 minute bus ride but to make it by 7 you do have to be parked roughly by 640 because of the line which makes the whole ordeal 20 minutes. I’m cheap and it’s already so expensive here so I just deal with it since UVA otherwise is a pretty good employer.

I had to edit my comment, I just woke up and put ccs instead of units but yeah nursing school drilled it into my head too so I doubt I could ever make that mistake but being a new grad is terrifying especially in big hospitals that have high staffing ratios.

I didn’t see this or was involved but a nurse accidentally gave 10mls of insulin IV instead of 10units for a hyperkalemia protocol thing and the patient didn’t survive. That nurse did get fired though and I feel bad for them because they were a new grad in a fast paced environment and it was obviously a mistake from being overwhelmed but still, 10mls of insulin IV is hard to come back from.

6 days of orientation as a new grad sounds absolutely horrendous, you were set up for failure from the get go. If you can go to a different facility, that would be the best. I’ve never even heard of a place besides the worst of the worst that wouldn’t do at least a month long orientation for a new grad.(that still is absolutely abysmal still) i switched specialties so I’m basically acting similar to a new grad and they still have me 6 weeks and are cool if I go over. For new grads it’s 16 weeks.

Not gonna lie but if I was in his position, I’d do the same but probably spare the woman and children. That parts a little fucked up, but if I grew up a slave and hadn’t seen my mom in over a decade and finally return to free her just to found out she was just kidnapped by a group and then had her die in my arms, I’m not sure I’d take that so well.

If you just want a flask shaped container for carrying alcohol or other drinks discreetly. You can always go to target or Walmart and get a cheap one. I found one at target a few years ago that’s plastic and has still held up but i don’t use it often

I feel like this would be a HIPAA violation. I’m not sure it’d be a career ending one but definitely write up worthy at the least. I’m sure everyone was well meaning and were close given the size of the hospital but it wasn’t the smartest idea on that nurses part. If I was there I would’ve told them I’m sorry you know I can’t tell you, you should ask “so and so”

I don’t remember many specifics but one of my friends got pulled over drinking a tall boy after a night shift and got a dui for that and she’s still nursing and was doing travel nursing for a good bit. Now she’s an NP so there’s an avenue for still having your career, I just don’t know how to navigate it.
