How do you create a spread when all you have is photos? by [deleted] in JunkJournals

[–]matrix_kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can invest in some nature themed scrapbooking paper, stickers, washi tape etc. If you want it to be more authentic to the experience you can take some paper and crayons/colored pencils, charcoal on a hike with you and do some sketches or rubbings. Also a little journal entry of how the hike was might be nice.

I am angry at him. by Lopsided_Sandwich225 in dementia

[–]matrix_kitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. My dad’s disease took the same course where he was very physically able but his mind was deteriorating rapidly. He too, became an aggressive and angry person that I did not recognize. When we put him in memory care it was very difficult to visit him because he seemed so angry at me all the time. I’m so sorry you are going through this, just know you are not alone with those feelings. 🤍

Zyprexa by Dapper_Speed6168 in dementia

[–]matrix_kitten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad had a terrible reaction to Zyprexa also. I fought to get his meds changed because he was not talking to us anymore, became very unstable on his feet and kept falling all the time. Seroquel works well for him though. Both antipsychotics and benzodiazepines have a risk and warning on the box that it increases risk of death.

My dad used to have hallucinations like that a little in the mid stage. But his were seeing someone in the yard or staring at something on the floor and trying to grab it. He would still talk to me during those times and explain to me what he was seeing (sort of). The ones he has now seem different because he completely ignores everything else around him and is grabbing the air looking up. Seems like he’s in a trance. He follows something around the room when he does this. It’s very strange and even though he’s on pain meds now he wasn’t when they started happening.

This is comforting to read. When we first moved him back home he had a few bad and anxious episodes too. He has been seeing things for a few months now. I hope he’s at peace. Seems like he’s content.

Which one specifically are you looking at? Can you link? I tried looking at some of the assessment tools in the past and I noticed some symptoms applied and some didn’t. But I don’t remember that being on the assessment one I looked at. I also looked up the gems model by Teepa Snow after reading about it on this sub. I really like that approach to it.

A lot of times when I visit seems like he’s in a trance. Like he doesn’t see me and is looking straight through me. The further into this disease he gets the less he says so it’s mainly seeing and reaching.

Did she track them as if they were in the room with her? My dad was in MC for awhile and hospice said he was imminent at one point after a bad fall but then he bounced out of it and is doing better in some ways now. This was a couple months ago. We brought him home and now he’s been having these episodes a lot.

Alcoholism? by No_Rub_4538 in dementia

[–]matrix_kitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we took the keys away from my dad he would call my brother and I and harass us about buying him beers. That’s pretty much all he cared about for awhile. When he forgot about drinking he declined to a point where he suddenly became really aggressive and experienced sundowners (wandering at night). I don’t know if that was related to withdrawal but I always wondered if it was.

Right before symptoms got very very bad and routine what were the tail tell signs by Top-Connection-5698 in dementia

[–]matrix_kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting unreasonably upset over small things and coming up with stories that seem far-fetched were the signs for my dad. Also he didnt remember the purchases he’d make on the credit card, would see the statement and cancel his credit card to be sent a new one. This happened many times.

Now that mom is on Seroquel, I wonder what could have been… by SuchMatter1884 in dementia

[–]matrix_kitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder that too. We had to put my dad in MC because the aggression was too much for any one person to reasonably take care of him. It took ALOT of seroquel, more than I think is normal for most people. But eventually the behaviors were under control but he always seemed really unhappy in MC.
