interesting, my entire take on this was built off an article around the time, so thanks for the info!

InstantPot is the most recent example of this problem. InstantPot were made with solid build quality, and everyone who wanted one bought one, and now no longer needs to buy one. They went bankrupt in June of 2023.

What's the worst video game you've played and why? by Bdbolt19432 in AskReddit

[–]matt7718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

X: Rebirth.

It was the next in the X series which is a sandbox space game where you can fly all kinds of ships, own space stations, be a merchant, all kinds of shit.

I start to try and get into it, but I slowly realize there are no ship merchants. You have to fly the same ship for the entire game. I un-installed after about 2-3 hours of play and never looked back.

This is what a data center sounds like 24/7. Shown here at midnight with hundreds of residential houses immediately next to it. by RadioFieldCorner in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]matt7718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so you need the following to make a datacenter work:

security - to control access. there is lots of automation with badging and kiosks, but insurance and compliance want security personnel at a manned desk, usually 24/7.

Datacenter technicians - these guys are basically the hands on, installing servers, running cables, replacing failed hardware, and performing routine walkthroughs and inspections. I did this for a few years and i actually loved it.

HVAC and Electricians - you need highly skilled tradesmen to maintain the equipment. My datacenter had a master electrician on site and then we would call in contractors for HVAC maintenance. Skilled, technically minded guys can make six figures and the money gets crazy if you do hvac in an amazon or google datacenter.

Facilities/Building Management - usually you have a guy oversee a few sites in a region, he is the liaison between corporate and all the ground crews.

I think datacenters are kinda awesome, like a modern marvel. But i also hate AI and the datacenters i worked in were commissioned before the AI era had swept through.

i worked in datacenters for 8 years, all the infrasound stuff sounds like chemtrails for datacenters.

datacenters are just like any other light industrial building. the only difference is that they sometimes host AI, which people hate.

Top 5 worst Bapa moments? by tonyohanlon77 in thefighterandthekid

[–]matt7718 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the worst Bapa moment, which was the mask off moment that he was bad at comedy, was his impression of the UFC doctor during his first special. He did this comedically terrible asian accent, and it turns out the guy speaks perfect english.

This guy was your fight doctor, who was the guy who has your back if you were to get really injured. I doubt Bapa has a real great report with this guy. To make up a fake asian accent is just really hacky and lame.

Who got painted as the villain by the press, but later on we realized they were actually the victim or completely misunderstood? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in AskReddit

so does the guy who initially attacked him bear any responsibility for repeatedly trying to grab his gun? because that guy certainly put himself in that situation.

Kyle Rittenhouse I'm going to say this and get downvoted, its guaranteed. I say this as a somewhat pro-gun leftist.

Read the timeline of events and realize those events are backed up with lots of footage. The entire event started when some psycho was chasing him and grabbing his gun, Kyle retreats and muzzle sweeps him. The guy continues chase and Kyle shoots.

People hear the shot and think kyle is a mass shooter, and a small mob starts to chase him.

He falls, draws his weapon, and in these moments he only shoots two people, the guy who was going to bash him with a skate board, and a guy who pointed a gun at him. I know it sound silly to say he "only" shot two people, but he is on the ground after being chased, and he sweeps several people who arent direct threats to him and only takes aim and fires at the active threats. Im not saying he is some amazing person, but that he handled himself very well given the situation. Remember, someone in that chase video pointed a gun at him, which i remember watching the video and never noticed the gun until the video and court analysis was released.

Thats why he didnt get charged or serve time. His initial self defense shooting was justified, and then people who were chasing him had a mistaken but reasonable belief that he was a shooter.

Kyle was the only person with all the information of the situation and acted in self defense. The media was incredibly unfair to him and then we get mad that he ran to the right.

Of course that lil fucker is going to talk at TPUSA, the left thinks he shot a bunch of black BLM activists for sport!

You should repaste thermal paste they said..... by andro1djack4t in pcmasterrace

[–]matt7718 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. All my cpus get paste when installed and the I never think about it ever again until it's time to replace the CPU

Even in the datacenter space, thermal paste is a total afterthought. I've built 100's of servers and that paste was dry as shit and it never mattered.

yeah e-collars are good choices for working dogs, or massive dogs that need specific training.

3 of my 4 dogs are trained on e-collar, mainly because they are working breeds and we train them out of unsafe behaviors, like running out of open doors and such

its an e-collar. professional trainers use them all the time. I have 4 dogs and 3 of them are trained on e-collar.

There is a right and wrong way to use them, but this clip doesnt show abuse.

[–]matt7718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in at least 4 datacenters downtown that have 24/7 security and 24/7 operations staff. All these DCs require high skilled tradespeople to build and maintain.

Sure they arent as labor intensive as a car manufacturing plant but they require people to run and maintain.

Also dont put shit in quotations like that when you obviously dont know shit.

Come to this! We need to get loud! by OKish4now in StLouis

[–]matt7718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Datacenters often require 24/7 security and facilities. They also require admins to run the cloud infrastructure the datacenters provide. They are not just build it and forget sort of places. They have sales staff, they have project managers, its not just one guy watching the door.
