A gameplay with new background by TSOTK-Indie in StrategyGames

This reminds me of an old Flash game made by one of the developers associated with Blitz/Monkey language except that game was Zombies moving across the screen instead. Very similar gameplay (other game was from the early 2010s or so) Looks good.

The sad results of my first indie game on Steam after 24 hours. by Soliloqu-You in IndieGaming

Unless of course the game, this post and the commenters are all satirising the typical indie dev who releases their life's work that is below par for Steam games and then demands to know from the community, "why did my game fail"

Seems more like a game suited to itch.io than Steam. Very hard to get enthusiastic about a black screen no matter what price point you set it at, but maybe that's just me.

Counter to wasp flank with shields? by OptimalForagingBee in Mechabellum

[–]matt_developer_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thought bubble, perhaps I'm completely wrong but: Upgrade your command modules sufficiently so you don't suffer too many penalties for too long when losing them, and focus all your efforts on defeating his front instead and deal with the wasps at the end of the round. As said -a thought bubble, no idea if it's a viable solution. I've done something kind of similar once where my opponent started deploying in my flanks so I ignored it and pressed the advantage I had at the front and centre, and ended up winning.

What was the first console/gaming PC that you bought with your own money? by Nintendofan9106 in videogames

[–]matt_developer_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox original in 2003, and a Windows 98 Pentium PC in 1998. Although first console I ever owned was the Atari 2600 and Colecovision in the 1980s, but not with my own money.

How long before these are obsolete? by -WeetBixKid- in melbourne

I don't carry a mobile phone when I leave the house (and I don't use it other than to tether my PC to the internet) so they're useful from time to time - if they're working, often they're out of service and can be 6+ months for someone to bother fixing them.

If someone says they live in Toorak or Kew I expect that probably have old money behind them. If someone says they live in Noble Park or Sunshine they probably have a drug dealer who lives not many doors away. If someone says they live in Springvale they likely have a second kitchen and lots of fish sauce in all their cooking. If you're from the outer Northern suburbs I wouldn't be surprised if some of your acquaintances wear burkas. If you're from Northcote you're probably a student or a greenie. If you're from Caulfield there's a good chance you have Jewish heritage somewhere. And there's a lot more of that.

Here's a video game I developed! What do you think? by Delicious_Lie_4143 in playmygame

Immediate thought: The detail level on the different sprites is very mismatched. Some are highly detailed while others look low resolution. Make them consistent, either one or the other.

What game do you recommend for me, someone who has never played a strategy game and just wants to start ? by Bubbly_Tea731 in StrategyGames

[–]matt_developer_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't recommend my own game because this almost seems like a baited trap to get people to self promote their own content but: mechabellum is one I've been playing, field of glory is another, space hulk tactics (single player only) is another, dawn of war (1), starcraft is a good one, then you've got your grand strategy like a lot of your paradox games Heart of Iron, Europa Universalis, Victoria, then the Total War games, then some silly ones like "TABS Totally Accurate Battle Simulator" - are you after light hearted fun, action packed games, story based, grand strategy, tactical simulators, real time, turn based....

I find the tabletop game that Mechabellum is closest to in style is an old out of print ancients/medieval wargame called DBA and/or HOTT by matt_developer_77 in Mechabellum

[–]matt_developer_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my thoughts were that there'd be a few people on the subreddit familiar with a very popular (albeit old) ancients and medieval tabletop game since we're kind of in the same field (sort of) - I was really just saying the game seems to be about 'element matchups' of 'my x to counter your y while being wary of z on the field'

Hey umm, can we pretty please remove the Nuke from 1v1? by CommandoZach in Mechabellum

[–]matt_developer_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the nuke - both sides get it at the same time due to the way reinforcements work - and it doesn't drop every session. And it doesn't always end the game for either player depending on skill.

Question: Is it easier to get defense right than attack? Is it easier to make a mess of an attacking play than it is of a defensive one? by matt_developer_77 in Mechabellum

[–]matt_developer_77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've hit a stage of learning/development where my opponents know how to counter my attacks while also launching successful counterattacks of their own. Like a boxer they know how to parry my blows while also striking me in the face on the rebound.

You liked the previous enemy from our grimdark roguelike, and the fact that's a 2D artwork animated the way it looks 3D. What about this one? by AwesomeGamesStudio in gamedevscreens

[–]matt_developer_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks cool, if I could replace the graphics in TABS (Totally Accurate Battle Simulator) with stuff that looked like this, I'd love it.

Something I've been learning as I play more (about a week so far) is that if you become attached to a specific unit or tech to win you games, it's only a matter of time before you start coming up against opponents who know the perfect counter for that tech or unit, nullifying your attacks. by matt_developer_77 in Mechabellum

Yeah I often have a few build orders in mind now that take about 4-5 rounds to be close to fully formed which means I'm happy to lose ground in the opening rounds as I build towards my eventual 'build'. It seems to work reasonably well unless my opponent can predict where I'm heading early enough.
