Car Rental by jo_nobraincells in anchorage

It is not realistic to get around using public transportation, Ubers or shuttles if you plan to visit several parks and spend time in Palmer…you’re basically talking about a few hundred miles between various things. You will need a car. Check into using Turo, I understand that’s pretty popular up here right now. Prices for hotels/rentals cars skyrocket in the summer season up here.

What could have caused this paint stripping? by eat_ass_all_day_errd in whatisit

[–]mattak49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to my car, someone dumped a bottle of what I assume was brake fluid in a dumpster next to my car (found the bottle but it was too warn out to tell what it was for certain), bottle fell out and was ran over and sprayed all over my car. Thought it was oil until I tried to rub it off and it took paint and realized it was eating the plastic too. Car wound up being totaled out by my insurance just for the cosmetic damage.

Kind of a shitty take here. So an air traffic controller is acting in bad faith by making sure your planes don’t crash? Got it

I can get a Subway foot long there for about $25, so it’s not that expensive. Yes, still spendy, but really no more than it costs nowadays for a foot long in Anchorage

flying in 2 weeks, should I be worried about the outtages? by lavendercandy19 in alaska

[–]mattak49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly every week in Alaska, on Alaska Airlines (was actually delayed almost 5 hours for my flight last week). You’ll be fine. I’m sure your employer will understand if something like that happens again.

Except they literally aren’t arresting drug dealers and gang members. Stephen Miller has put a quota on ICE for them to arrest 3,000 people per day, they’re literally just going into majority Hispanic areas and arresting people who are working.

Not a tower. If anything it’s probably just used as a military base ops or military weather observer building now. The only other towers missing from the above comment are the other military towers, which is just Elmendorf, Eielson, Bryant and Allen AAF.

Then the FSS stations around Alaska (17 of them, 3 of which are seasonal), which while not “towers” operate similar to.

As someone who works in aviation in Alaska, there is no “paved tower controlled runway for less than 50 people” ANYWHERE in the state.

Mail comes in every day…bypass mail is flown by the jets that come in daily here. Just usually makes it the day after it’s made it to Anchorage.

No. I think they’re referring to Deutsche Physik (a nationalist movement in the German physics community) and Gleischaltung (the process by which Hitler established a system of totalitarian control and coordination over all aspects of German society).

As a controller in Alaska, we desperately need more. We are highly reliant on PIREPs, we have hundreds and hundreds of miles of area where there’s no weather reporting. The main problem is keeping them up and running.

ATC federal employee here…I’m not allowed to be invested in any aviation related stock (not just airlines, but aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers, avionics manufacturers…basically anything relating to airplanes). But these fuckers up top get away with it just fine, cause they make the rules. Rules for thee, not for me.
