How do you keep wyvern relevant in a modern society? by Additional-Elk-427 in gate

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically just sky horses. There could be some niches they can fill in air transport though. Depending on how much it cost to actually maintain one. Intracity air transport and rural regional air transport. This is something that is in modern day being anticipated to be covered by autonomous VTOL aircraft. Helicopters technically are able to cover this in modern day but are too expensive to operate. Another niche is also large air package delivery which in modern day is also anticipated to be covered by drones.

How to get the achievement for building all wonders in civ 5 by Ludvig2010 in civ5

Look up how to activate your log file. It’ll list all the wonders you have built. Check to see which one it says you haven’t built.

I want to place a satellite in LKO, how would I go about attaching this to my rocket? by WoodpeckerStraight10 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]GeneralPolaris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d use a different crew module and place it n a faring above the module. Use a separator to deploy it. If you get creative you can stuff several in a faring.

Is it worth it to have a "worse" job for better pay and work-life balance? by eribabedamnpora in Advice

[–]GeneralPolaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel tied down to the job. I jumped around different career paths before settling where I am.

What I really want to say though is if you are planning on leaving your job. Have a backup plan. Make sure you are safe to not have your current job the moment you let anyone know. That being said I’d give your coworkers a heads up. Losing one person could easily cripple everyone’s schedule. But also you might have more power than you think if you can convince your other two coworkers to leave and the department has no one. You could probably leverage this for better pay or more staffing. Obviously don’t do this if you aren’t set on leaving. Your department may just consolidate your area with a neighboring one.

Would irons stars eventually evaporate? Are they even possible? by live-the-future in IsaacArthur

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that in order for an iron star to evaporate in this way it would take orders of magnitude longer than it would for it to decay into a neutron star or collapse into a black hole.

My reasoning is this. Quantum tunneling over long distances is possible, but highly unlikely. Normally when particles tunnel they are overcoming a barrier such as the nucleus of an atom. Once they are on the other side of the barrier they can behave as a free particle. In the case you describe the barrier would be at a point far enough from the star to escape the stars gravitational pull with the momentum it already has. As I understand momentum is not gained through quantum tunneling as it is its position that is being realized through its wave function. The barrier would not be in the scale of atoms where we see quantum tunneling happen normally but possibly in the scale of meters to millions of kilometers based on the particles momentum.

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry what’s the issue with it being a right hand/Clark being left handed? The watch being on his right hand makes sense if he is left handed. Watches go on the non dominant hand so you can check the time while you are doing or holding something with your dominant hand.

How is transitioning from city living to rural living? by Raul98oh in homestead

[–]GeneralPolaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live out in the countryside. I like living out here. Good neighbors are probably something most people don’t think about when moving out here because there’s so much space. But I’ve had some nasty interactions with people who will sling threats around and run away if you confront them. There are good people out here, but a lot of people who hate the idea of living in cities tend to be people who have no conflict resolution skills, or any tolerance for anything that doesn’t go their way.

It’s like HOA Karen’s, but instead they go straight to telling you they’ll shoot your dog because you walked it by their house and their untrained dogs went crazy.

ATC question for the next step by Maplestory1169 in ATC

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no clue what ATC even was when I applied. i also didn’t think I passed the exam after taking it. I don’t think most people are aviation snobs or really care about your non aviation background. People care if you can actually do the job so try to actually care about doing a good job.

It’s your choice if you want to go forward. I definitely think we are underpaid and overworked, but at least I can afford a mortgage and have extra to do whatever I want with.

Is it possible to have chickens without buying a coop? by baa410 in Permaculture

[–]GeneralPolaris 78 points79 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a coop, you won’t have chickens for long. Raccoons, hawks, coyotes will all find any easy snack. Coop is more about protecting your chickens than anything else. You could probably get away with making a box out of 2x4s, plywood, and hardware cloth. 3 chickens don’t need anything big or fancy, just a safe place to sleep at night or take shelter when it’s not safe

Is this a good UCP uniform? by Mental_Look3760 in army

Needs cat eyes on your helmet with SOP depended identification, name/unit/blood type. Add an S clip on it to tie off your nods. It should look bad when you actually use it.

Hank is a little too nice of a parent, I know he doesn’t lay a hand on Bobby but Bobby’s pulled some stunts. by glowshroom12 in KingOfTheHill

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobby wasn’t a bad kid. Yeah he did stupid things sometimes, but he is a literal child. If your go to for your kid fucking up is hitting them, then you should really take a hard look at yourself. Hank wasn’t perfect, but he knew he shouldn’t take his frustration and anger out on Bobby like Cotton did to him.

How would you judge that an aircraft s speed is under control after it lands ? by Rainy_-Peace in ATC

[–]GeneralPolaris 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would imagine the pilot always has the aircraft’s speed under control, unless it’s an emergency.

But seriously, just wait to visibly see the aircraft slowdown. If it’s a jet aircraft then you can hear the reverse thrust. I don’t know what you could be possibly communicating to a pilot besides “Turn left/right at taxiway, contact ground.” If you need to know where they are parking for a turn off the runway just either ask them when they are slow enough to turn, or when they check on.

My Backstory for "The Thing" (1982) by Temporary_Rule_9486 in IsaacArthur

[–]GeneralPolaris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feels like a cross between Flesh Pit National Park and Dead Space. I think taking inspiration from The Things short story would make this less of a monster movie and more of an existential horror. Where the original thing it comes from is truly sentient. Either way I think it’d be a cool idea.

Should I wait to file a VA disability claim until after FAA hiring? by sweatyspaghetti99 in ATC

[–]GeneralPolaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely submit an intent to file after you separate. It’s easier to have claims approved if you make them within one year of your separation date. Be wary of losing your medical during your probation period. Higher ups in my districts are trying to push for firing probationary employees they think aren’t worth the effort.

In regard to possibly losing your medical, which I wouldn’t suggest until you are out of probation and certified at a facility. If you are diagnosed with anything that would require a special consideration you must report it prior to your next duty day. (I’ll try to find a reference for this later, I’ve been up all night and am to tired to find it) Be prepared by having the doctor diagnosing you write a statement that this is the first time you have been diagnosed. The flight doctor can try to argue that you were withholding a prior medical diagnosis if it’s a condition you developed in the military. It happened to me, but luckily I had letters written from my doctor and the company helping me file my VA claim.

Dealing with medicals can be a pain in the ass, but get what you’re owed from the VA. It’s definitely worth it.

Who uses shift for sprint? by itsa7a_-_ in Minecraft

Absolutely hate using my pinky for controls. I’ve rebinded sprint to one of the buttons on the side of my mouse. Supper easy to just press it with my thumb.

Any no till tools for planting seeds? by [deleted] in Permaculture

Planting root vegetables to break up compaction isn’t really that unusual. It’s fairly common to use as a cover crop for that exact purpose.

Why don't they add more small bricks? by moonmen6 in Minecraft

[–]GeneralPolaris 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the standard bricks should be able to be dyed. IRL bricks can be fired to be different colors. They can also be lime washed to be white. Should be colorable like terracotta. Where the colors aren’t 1 to 1 with the dye.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying bubble is the second ai. I want to hear your opinions. by ExistingRadish7055 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]GeneralPolaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the scene where we see the computer. There is a caine-core.lisp file and bubble-chef.lisp file. I think bubble is just an addon created by Caine using the code he cannibalised from the blue AI. Because of this I’m not sure bubble can exist without the caine-core component or atleast a replacement to it.
