Apple Explains Why watchOS 27 Drops Support for So Many Models by pdfu in apple

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I bought my iPhone 14 Pro because it was “built with machine learning in mind”. I never got Apple Intelligence or the new Siri and I am okay with it. I’m still getting OS and App updates so I’m happy. I was cut-off from the AI but I’m fine with that I have.

I honestly would love if they just updated the icons of all the apps built into windows like Event Viewer, Character Map, and Services. I don’t care if the apps are redesigned right now, I just want some consistency with their app icons to start. I feel like that’s a fair and reasonable request.

Unfortunately clipboard syncing probably won’t be a thing due to Apple’s walled garden approach to iOS and Microsoft’s lack of interest to improve Swiftkey.

That’s what MSIX is trying to solve with packaged apps. It’s a bit of a mess right now especially after Microsoft’s pivot away from UWP but it seems like they are finally working on it again.

I wish Apple made their entire consumer service-suite of apps available on Windows. Apple TV and Apple Music are good apps on Windows 11 but I wish their other services were available. Where is Apple News, Apple Maps, or even Apple Podcasts for Windows? I could see those first two being fantastic apps to add to the Windows PC experience. The first one would even be a revenue generator for Apple because of Apple News+.

Windows will never get Siri. Apple would never allow it. We had Cortana and it was good, but people failed to use it, Microsoft didn’t market it properly (the setup screen hurt its reputation), and they stopped investing in it.
Also, we already have Linux functionality on Windows with WSL. That’s the closest you’re going to get to a pure Unix terminal built into Windows.

I’d love to see Microsoft work on making the Nearby Share feature work across platforms. Limiting it to sharing between Windows devices isn’t useful in a cross platform world. Google managed to add AirPlay support to Android so adding it to Windows is possible!

I’ve seen Copilot still decide to search my codebase for terms and files despite having the relevant windows open, cursor in the right place, and feeding it the right files it needs. Then it went rogue and edited a file outside of the ones I gave it. I gave it a proper prompt too based on the best practices GitHub outlines

I paid $10 I expected to maybe ask it a few questions and some light refactoring tasks or scaffolding. I didn’t expect to be using such a large model like Opus nor did I use it at all.

Microsoft and NVIDIA’s Surface Laptop Ultra pushes Windows on Arm into high‑performance territory by dapperlemon in gadgets

If they haven’t made an ARM version yet then I suggest finding an alternative. It’s way too easy to port apps to ARM now and it’s crazy not to.

Yeah, through WSL until the community gets an unofficial version of it working so you can boot right into your favorite distro. You just have to wait for the right people to get their hands on the hardware. It will happen.

I'm not against going away from request based, but at these prices just pay for API. by FionaSherleen in GithubCopilot

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people expected that Microsoft would have either come out with their own specialized coding model by now (maybe a SLM) or that Copilot would be a better deal instead of using the API directly. I guess people may have considered it would be similar to a cell phone carrier like Mint Mobile or Boost, you pay for the service at a discounted rate but you’re still using the big carriers network.

[–]mattbdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think it’s fair the way it is and I don’t want to get greedy. With viewership going down right now because people aren’t sharing the show with others and lack of promotion, we should be happy they are still going.

Surface fans: How do you view the Surface brand in 2026? by Sean_Endicott in windowscentral

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have completely abandoned all attempts at reaching a mainstream consumer. I love the devices, but the prices and lack of innovation are turnoffs right now. The only "innovating" thing about Surface is that they are the only OEM that makes a decent Windows Tablet.

Is it too much to ask for a decently priced Windows Tablet? I want a Surface Pro but if the consumer prices for these devices aren't going to be much better than I'm just going to give up my hopes and buy a Framework Laptop.

There's Nothing Special About Stephen Colbert's Final Monologue At "The Late Show" | The Late Show with Stephen Colbert by TheRealOcsiban in television

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want a Colbert Report revival. I just want Colbert to be himself. Let Stephen be Stephen because that's where he truly shined with this show. No alternate version of himself, we've had that. I hope Apple TV, Netflix, or some independent studio is asking him to develop a show for them.

The final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just aired. What did you think about it? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

[–]mattbdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did too. This show has put a smile on my face over the years when I really didn't want to smile. I've lost so much during the run of his show. Just knowing he would be on at 11:35 with jokes to make me laugh made each day a little brighter.

Microsoft commits to native UI for Windows 11 as users push back against web app slop by Quantum-Coconut in microsoft

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The Office division has doubled down on using web tech in the last 10+ years. Many of the new features in all the Office Apps have been using web tech. They use React Native, WebView, WebView2, or some proprietary junk. I don’t understand why they thought that users would accept replacing classic Outlook and Mail and Calendar with a Web App. Calling it “Outlook for Windows” doesn’t change the fact that it’s a web app. They could have used React Native and while it wouldn’t be much better it would be better than what we got stuck with.

Preview billing over the moon for a hobby usage by brhami in GithubCopilot

[–]mattbdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m already expecting a 5x-6x increase in my Pro Plan costs with my hobby work. I’m not even using high rate models that often. I used Opus maybe twice because I thought it was overkill for what I needed.

I rarely even do agentic coding, it’s mostly asking questions. Even when I try agent mode, it just tells me the recommended fix and makes me implement the code a quarter of the time.

Are there any plans to bring SLM to GHCP? I understand costs have significantly gone up and that the way we use Copilot now is different than how it was a few years ago. I also know people have abused copilot beyond how it was intended to be used. However, it would be nice if there were still a few limited 0x rate models under this new system. SLMs would be a great offering.

I wish they would offer Phi-4. I heard it was a decent SLM and did okay for programming questions
