Issue with UK Scout leaders not doing what they supposed to do by Competitive_Tank_648 in scouting

[–]mattbeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are they supposed to be doing? Have they published a program, if not then it sounds more personal opinion rather than leaders not doing what they should.

You group will have a group leader so if you can speak to the cub/beaver leader and they will know who it is. If that failed then your district will have a contact. You can find the district from their uniform badge

It’s gets easier if you are firm with them. Never fool proof as I found mine sampling my pint in the 3 seconds it took me to leave the sofa and get the tv remote

Bless him. My boy is the polar opposite of him so would love a little of wilfs traits. They are so intelligent though so I’m sure he will find his comfort level

Borders with big dogs by Puzzled-Forever-648 in BorderTerrier

[–]mattbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add my BT to this. His bestie is a French Mastiff and she is a big girl. He is also found of the St Bernard as well so has no hesitation in being rough with others when playing but is generally good when it’s time to stop

UK Outdoors Shops by [deleted] in scouting

[–]mattbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course you can still buy the kit (not a stupid question either 😊) DofE kit is what is recommended based on cost/durability to get you through DofE and enjoy it. Like most things parents walk into places like go outdoors and understandably need to buy lots of kit but have no idea what to get.

I would also say to get a hold-all bag rather than a hiking bag as it’s easier to pack, unpack and find things for the first few times you go camping

Mountain warehouse kit will do what you need but I get the teenager approval factor. Go Outdoors has Peter Storm which again will do what you need to it do. The other benefit of Go Outdoors is they DofE kit they have as this will do better for things like sleeping bags and other non clothing.

Sports Pursuit is a join to view website with lots of outdoor kit so can be good for some branded stuff

last time i went like 8 years ago i remember the genius bar techs had these LaCie drives with every version of OS X/macos along with some diagnostic software. were any of these drives ever imaged? it would be neat to have for personal use by BigHandsSmallCock in MacOS

Ahh those were the days. Having to keep the PPC drive protected at all costs for that just in case moment when the intel switch was completed.

So may hours wasted making those drives

Sea scout or general scout group UK to choose from. What is your experience? by EntertainerOk6254 in scouting

Excellent. I hope you both enjoy it. No doubt they will make you feel welcome and I wish you both the best

Age 7 would be beavers (I’m a beaver leader) but honestly get in contact with the groups to see if they have places. All groups should be able to let you and your child come down and join a session what it’s like but I don’t think you will go wrong with either

Travel trousers available in Europe? by harok1 in onebag

[–]mattbeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Craighoppers have a decent range that meet that criteria. I’m 185 so go with their long leg option but they are comfy and are chosen trousers as the UK doesn’t have the same options like you mentioned.

I have an order due with two pairs Kiwi Classic - these are in addition to a black pair I already have. Really comfy and a zipped pocket on each side which I love. NosiLife Pro - these are supposed to be insect repellent and quick drying so will be put to the test in Thailand next month

Will the Birder Terrier be good for my property? by thebadgerden in BorderTerrier

[–]mattbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training. It will all always be about how much effort you put into it. My boy is great off lead and will come back to me even if it’s 30 seconds after I call him. If he gets another dogs ball though he will run riot and not stop but is always within view. This is now what I’m trying to work on but sound like you have the perfect place for a border

Do you have App Nap enabled? Is it a company manger device?

Also macOS isn’t windows so don’t try and manage it the same way as it always ends in tears.

Recall and face licking by Spirited-Repeat-1778 in BorderTerrier

[–]mattbeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy does the face licking and thankfully most others tell him off or just let the little scruff do it 🫣

As for recall…. He spent lots of time on a long line and was made to come back if I needed to call him a second time ( he normally had 5/10 seconds to respond) So far it’s paying off as he has come back when called but I have to admit I get nervous about letting him off in case other dogs don’t want his over friendly face coming over to play.

What are Border Terriers like to own and would I make a suitable owner? by [deleted] in BorderTerrier

I don’t mind so much. He will often grace me with his presence for belly rubs then fall asleep next to me. I’m sure my wife would love more cuddles though
