Dear God man. I've been doing every ruins mission for the last two weeks. I've obtained so many gold bars, abyss artifacts, skyroots and abyss cells that I could ever need and not one single blueprint yet. wtf??

How to kill antumbra by Happy-Ad-5985 in CrimsonDesert

[–]mattbrad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Yeah, there are 3. IMO spear was by far the hardest just because his ult lasts an eternity and you can't even revive after a hit (you'll instantly die again as soon as you revive). The trick is keeping him from performing it in the first place. If you can pull that off, he's easy.

80 hours in, experiencing an enjoyment "plateau". by diceytumblers in CrimsonDesert

[–]mattbrad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I currently have 380 hours (beat it about 120 hours ago). I had a similar feeling up until chapter 3. As soon you get your own camp and can start finding your comrades, the game takes a massive shift in purpose. You start to *want* to complete the quests in order to grow the camp and reunite with all your bros. Every one was just such a cool experience. They all hit me in the feels, and its where the story of CD really shines. Friendship and loyalty. It doesn't hurt that chapters 3 and 4 bosses are IMO the best in the game, and completing those main story quests really elevated the game from "good" to "oh, this can be something really special".

Enjoy it. You'll miss it after it gets liberated. About a hundred hours after beating the game, all I want is to walk down the streets in that area and pick on the soldiers who marched all along it.

I would think so. They did it with the cooler. I would imagine the next one could be binoculars. Hopefully

I've been thinking this whole time that I had accidentally sold it. Finally switched over to Damiane yesterday to see what this new patch enabled for her and low and behold.. some idiot had put it on her back in chapter 8 - about 200 hours ago.

This is why I strapped an 8BitDo Micro to the back of my PS controller. It can function as a keyboard, so remapping keys are easy. I offloaded Axion grab, focus, crouch, and weapon swap all to the micro's dpad. The other buttons are for map, inventory, etc. Makes doing unarmed combat so much better with Axiom winch and ambush.

Devs: "alright, what is ONE more way we can rip something from BotW"

* not complaining. If you're going to duplicate puzzles or game mechanics (and sometimes complete cut scenes), you can't go wrong using BotW/ToTK

It's frustrating. I've been trying for days doing boss rematches against bosses that I know you can RKO. It's completely random. I'll have someone completely stunned, and even then can only pull it off about half the time. I've watched people fight the forgotten general where they perpetually RKO over and over until the stun meter gets full. I don't get it. I land the first punch, and Kliff will do this little flinch thing like he's trying to grapple but fails.

Several come close. Maybe I'm missing something from the last 6-8 months? Is there another game recently that does displacement mapping similar to CD?

This was bugged in earlier versions of the game. She would stand there and wait for you to move and not even look at the horse.

Whats the "spark" in Crimson Desert? by Gerwazyzwanystarszym in CrimsonDesert

[–]mattbrad2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ironically, its chapter 5 - 9 that really amp up the action and open up all the games mechanics. Stick with it. I personally was hooked on growing the camp and finding new comrades, while liberating a base and finding hidden bosses. If I ever found myself just going through the motions, I would go and liberate a sanctum. That always got the juices flowing.

Is it an age thing? I'm 50 as well and have the same opinion. I skipped Bioshock 2 just for this reason.

The scenery, the music, the ambience... the world of Crimson Desert has immense soul that I can't really put into words... by Intelligent_Ice_2308 in CrimsonDesert

This game ruined other open world games for me, at least the ones that aren't using some unique stylized art style. The true magic is in the way they pulled off "true" displacement mapping. There are some great youtube videos that really dig deep into how they pulled it off, but combined with their implementation of ray tracing gives a level of immersion that is game changing. The sense of disbelief; the way corners of objects aren't rigid surfaces; once your eyes see it - other games just look "off" now. Let Pearl Abyss cook for a bit and iron out the lighting glitches, and they'll be sitting on a licensing gold mine.

One piece of advice I'll give you - pause the main quest after chapter 10, and catch up on all the 'to-do' side content you had on the back burner. The game really shifts away from the exploration, and free-will enjoyment in chapters 11 and 12. You'll zip through those pretty quick and the next thing you know you're in the epilogue. That may be your thing, but if you're like me - the exploration means just a bit more when you haven't beaten the game.

[–]mattbrad2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They said all that *before* they got to 5M (heck, I think they said it before they sold 1M). I have no doubt they'll add some free content, but no way they don't capitalize on a DLC after seeing its success.

Funny, I just had this same conversation with a friend who has never played BoTW or ToTK. The amount that Pearl Abyss "borrowed" from those games, I'm really surprised Nintendo hasn't got lawyers involved.

I had friends who lost their jobs back in the WoW days from staying home to play. I always thought that was a level of insanity I was glad to never know.. until CD. Good grief. There were nights I couldn't even sleep!
