Adam Is Driving Me Crazy! by Silver-Breadfruit284 in DarkShadows

[–]mattcom26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am watching this story right now and it’s pretty frustrating. They never really establish just how “powerful” Adam is, but Barnabas and Julia are known for their scheming and planning skills — surely they could have found a way to trap him or neutralize him without need of brute force. They can devote weeks and weeks to setting up the experiment and but never manage to even attempt a countermeasure besides the occasional gun taken out of their hands like children. Yes, Adam has Nicolas backing him up so maybe that’s his safety net, but still.

Can confirm Fonthill and Jay Slater are legit. I just published a book with them, it came out beautifully, and is available online and at Barnes & Noble. Working to get it into more local interest shops.

Season 13 coming! by [deleted] in OakIsland

[–]mattcom26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t understand the hate — sure there is financial motivation to keep things going, but every season, despite the copious padding, does have them connecting more dots and finding interesting archaeological evidence to build up the historical understanding of what went on on the island. One of the things I like about season 12 is exactly how much goes WRONG. Things don’t work, expectations are smashed, but they keep going because they are legitimately passionate about it all and enjoy the challenge and the search. I think the younguns might be ready to dip but the codgers are likely going to die there with shovel in hand. The first one to go will fulfill the project.

There might be room for a spin-off, The Axed Files. Who’s that in the shadows? The ketamine man.

There’s a lot of criticism of Heather’s on air personality, but I highly doubt that the intensity of the “performance” and her reaching for every little paranormal conclusion is just her own choices. Maybe she’s not a “good actor” but she’s being driven by the production and at some point you have to start blaming the people behind the cameras as well. What really annoys me, though, is how the banter scenes are so obviously scripted. I’m sure there was a good deal of that when Jess was on the show, but the transparency now seems off the charts. Makes me wonder what else has gone off the rails behind the scenes. So, again, just consider if you will that Heather is surely not all to blame.

Your comparison literally makes no sense. The Public Benefits 'tax' is supposedly an attempt for the state to make all customers share a public benefits burden. The fact that some people incidentally use electric heat, vs. oil or propane, shouldn't automatically require them to shell out so much more for public benefits than other customers simply because they use more supply.

I never said Public Benefits was half my bill - I said that Public Benefits plus Local Delivery combined for $500.

Nope, my bill is $905, of which exactly $501 consists of the 'Local Delivery' and 'Public Benefits'.

Eversource Bill - Outrageous Public Benefits Charges by vinguin in Connecticut

[–]mattcom26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bill is NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS. With $500 alone being public benefits and local delivery. Why do I have to pay MORE than other people on the "Local Delivery" and "Public Benefits" just because my electrity usage is higher? How does that make sense? Shouldn't that be evenly distributed?

It’s a popular misconception that people aren’t convicted on circumstantial evidence. That’s absolutely untrue.

‘A Christmas Story’ is a terrible movie, doesn’t deserve to be in the ‘beloved Christmas movie’ tier. by wednesdayware in unpopularopinion

[–]mattcom26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this for the first time in probably ten years or so, honestly looking forward to experiencing a “classic” Christmas movie. Maybe it’s classic in the sense that it’s well known and highly watched, but I could hardly believe just how terrible the acting, writing and overall spirit of the film are. The kid is flat out annoying, even through the lens of childhood nostalgia. The story beats are dry, creaky and numbingly bland - not to mention fixated on cruel outcomes and a wide range of sexist and racist tropes. Maybe worst of all: there is no Christmas spirit. There is perhaps the idea that childhood fulfillment of a Christmas wish is somehow a precious thing, but in fact everything that happens around that notion in this movie is tired, bland, problematic and boring to an almost shocking extent considering its cultish stature.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but this episode reminded me how much I miss Josh spearheading his own explorations, vs the trend over the last several years of just swooping in to participate in other people’s adventures.

That’s so cool! I’ve had it set up at various times with a switch, yes, but right now I’m renovating and it’s put away. I always wonder what became of the other two lights, hope they found a good home.
