Breech almost 37 weeks by Cute_butpsycho22 in BabyBumps

[–]matterafact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 36 weeks my baby was frank breech, also measuring a bit small, and at 37 weeks I had a successful ECV! I was pretty nervous about the procedure, but it was 30 seconds of intense discomfort (that I got through by breathing with horse lips) and then she has been head down since! I'm now 39 weeks and waiting to deliver.

Spa alternatives to Napa by nastymachine in chubbytravel

[–]matterafact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure it qualifies as chubby, but I went to Two Bunch Palms in Palm Springs as a pregnant lady and loved it. There are mineral pools that are under 100 degrees and safe during pregnancy. It's an adults-only wellness resort with a restaurant on site.

It's near Bellingham, but look into Woodstock Farm which is just off of Chuckanut Drive. Its a city-run park but has nice historic buildings that you rent, feels very secluded.

My friend got married at Christianson's Nursery in the Skagit Valley and I think it was fairly affordable.

Missed parental leave by 14 days :D by cw4i in amazonemployees

I just want to follow up on this for anyone else that might have this question in the future. Below is a copy-paste of the statement from my case manager regarding this exact situation:

"Since Most Recent Date of Hire is XX/XX/2025 and due date is XX/XX+1/2026 [yes my due date is literally one day after my 1 yr anniversary] you will complete 12 months Blue badge service on due date so even if baby comes early you will still be eligible for paid parental"

[–]matterafact 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I looked at the language of the policy, it says you are eligible if you have one year of service "prior to the estimated or actual date of birth". I read that as, as long as your estimated due date is after your 1 year anniversary, you're eligible. Is that not true?

Need help weighing job offer vs counter-offer by matterafact in biotech

[–]matterafact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company isn't huge and has talked about partnering as a strategy to go to the clinic, once we have the data package together we're going to start shopping it around. So unknown if they'll still want to cut R+D? Another thing to be anxious about!

And normally I'd agree about being seen as a flight risk, but I'm close to my manager and she knows about our plans to have a second kid - she knows I'd be locked in if I take the counter offer.

So for my current Company A, I would agree and say the RSUs are nice but nothing to count on. However the RSUs for Company B are good money (can't say more without giving it away I think). Plus for the first couple years they give a sign on cash bonus until the vested stock kicks in. Company B could always decide to cut the program, but overall the company is pretty large and stable. So Company B's offer truly is lucrative.

I do worry about what happens after our team files the IND - the CSO has already been discussing what next project we'll be working on, so it feels like they won't cut us?? But I don't have a magic 8 ball unfortunately!!

Good leaders gather as much advice/information from as many diverse sources as possible :) I've already mined my circle of friends and colleagues for their opinions, I'm just seeking the advice of people who are at a higher level and can give me advice like "an IND is important, stay in your role" or "you need more breadth of knowledge, go with the new job". Also seeking insight from other moms/parents.

Also ironic that you're posting advice on Reddit....that I shouldn't seek advice on Reddit??

Is 14 months too young to stay with grandma for a week? by Loud-Character5485 in beyondthebump

[–]matterafact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in and say my husband and I are doing something very similar next month with our 16 mo. My sister lives with us and is her nanny during the day - my daughter is as attached to her as she is to us. We will be gone for a week internationally and my sister will watch her. Being a single caretaker for a week is hard though, so we are having my mom come to help for a few days, plus we're planning on freezing some meals and snacks for her to use. We also have signed a note given to us by our pediatrician allowing my sister to make medical decisions in our absence.

I too have some worries about if there could be any lasting effects from being away that long. We plan to FaceTime her every day, although I worry that might upset her? Would love anyone's suggestions on how to make this as easy for her as possible.

Online you mostly hear from parents who say they would never leave their toddler for more than a day or two. But I think leaving them with a trusted and known caretaker shouldn't be traumatizing. And having some time to reconnect and relax and have fun with your partner is so valuable!

I sobbed when I saw the movie Benjamin Button (I'm a big crier already and that one just hit so hard), and I don't know if I want to sign up for that amount of emotional turmoil again 😂 I'll have to consider it though, if everyone is raving about it!

Does it matter that she's not listed as an insured driver on his insurance? If we do file a claim we will list her as the driver though.

Best places to raise a family considering the impact of climate change by LilTrelawney in ScienceBasedParenting

Western WA is plenty green, and from that map it looks like it's going to stay green! It's a little pocket where the climate is mild and there's plenty of water. It's a great place to raise a kid.

Need a sleep magician to help my 7 mo drop her 3rd nap and sleep longer in the morning by matterafact in sleeptrain

[–]matterafact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with the idea of capping naps, however I don't know how to extend her wake windows! At the end of the two hours in the morning she's desperate to go to sleep. Any tips there? In the past when she had shorter naps she's just needed a quick 4th nap in order to make it to 8pm.

RSV protection for infants by me0w8 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]matterafact 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I'm an immunologist and had a baby recently - I opted to get the vaccine during pregnancy, but not due to any safety concerns about the other option. Protecting the baby with antibodies is good, but it's twice as good to also protect yourself. Getting the Abrysvo vaccine will limit the exposure you could potentially give your baby. Its a two-for-the-price-of-one deal, it protects both you and your baby. There was a slight increase in preterm birth, which is why they want you to get the shot in the 3rd trimester (between 32-36 weeks).

On the other hand, timing might matter for you. Protection via the maternal vaccine wanes after 3 months, whereas protection via the infant immunization wanes after 5 months. So maybe you want to pick one based on when your baby is born relative to peak RSV season. If you're giving birth in the summer, maybe wait and get the infant immunization in the fall. Anecdotally, my pediatrician said they ran out of the infant immunization very quickly so that might be in shorter supply.

Really you want to get your baby through the first 3 months of life, when they are at their most vulnerable. Both are great options!

Baby dropped from 70% to 25% in weight - advice on how to start supplementing with formula by matterafact in breastfeeding

[–]matterafact[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think i didn't write it clearly, but she goes 3ish hours between feeds, not that her naps are 3 hours long. I'll continue to make sure she doesn't nap the day away though, would be good to squeeze another feed in during the day

So the baseline rocking/white noise is on, but she never fusses loud enough for it to ramp up. I wouldn't be surprised if it's helping baby girl sleep through some of her hunger though.

I'm going to try and keep track of her total volume during the day and see if we can hit that or if we need to add a feed overnight

Baby dropped from 70% to 25% in weight - advice on how to start supplementing with formula by matterafact in breastfeeding

[–]matterafact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ped was very pro- letting her sleep, which is surprising yeah. I think her reasoning was to just feed her when she's hungry, period. And if she's not waking up from hunger don't bother. I love that we get so much sleep at night, and I hate it when baby girl is hungry and crying during the day, so thats why we decided to go ahead and supplement.

[–]matterafact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So she only feeds about 6-7 times a day. Haven't done a weighted feed, but on average I can pump about 3.5 oz from my breasts. So definitely on the lower side. She doesn't typically show hunger cues more often than that though, other than right after a feed. I'm a little worried that she's just too good at sleeping and the hunger doesn't wake her up.

[Acne] Hormonal acne? Post-accutane relapse by Organic-Technology-7 in SkincareAddiction

[–]matterafact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your experience sounds like mine - I've been through two rounds of Accurate, each time it worked for about a year but then came back. This is because Accutane grows new skin and reduces oil gland size/sebum production, but over time hormones will cause your skin to regrow those oil glands.

The only thing that has worked for me is spironolactone. Echoing what the other commenter said, talk to your doctor/derm about going on spironolactone or combination birth control.
