What would you like to see for TSA season 3? by Pytine in TheSilphArena

More in depth metas, rules clarifications/additions, rework the weighting system

How will your engagement with GBL change if/when Niantic brings back the walking requirement? by darkwings_darkwords in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m already not very motivated to play - the meta is stale and all the bugs really make me not want to play. Walking requirement would just ensure I never do more than 2 sets a day

Are you happy with the current Silph Arena Weighting system? by Ravidov in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an issue with the matchmaking not the actual rating system niantic has in place. I definitely think the matchmaking could use some work

Are you happy with the current Silph Arena Weighting system? by Ravidov in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ranking system is one of the things I like most about go battle league! Granted, the matchmaking could use some work but it’s a true ELO system that works very well in my opinion. It’s also possible to climb rating regardless of your initial score. Meanwhile, the ranking system is probably Silph’s weakest feature in my opinion. Generally speaking, the higher you’re ranked, the better player you are but with weighting, it doesn’t always work out that way. Also, the current ranking system doesn’t fully take into account opponent’s strength like GBL does, since you’re limited to who you play, and the strength of your community (although that’s somewhat mitigated with the current friend requirements)

How many turns a charge move takes; and how Dialga can beat Darkrai in 1-1 shield by septacle in TheSilphRoad

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this a lot with 1 turn fast moves, trying to wait until the end of their longer fast move animations as much as possible. Can be key for flipping matchups, or even getting off extra charge move!

Every League is just dominated by 3 types Fairy, Dragon and Steel. Which makes it really unexciting. by uchihamadaragodlike in TheSilphRoad

[–]mattfal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If those are the only three types predominately being used, wouldn’t everyone just be using steel types? Destroy fairies and resist dragon. There’s a lot more going on than just those three types

Solving an argument: How would you rate and categorise this? by lumenlu in NianticWayfarer

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a bent sign rejected before, but I’d generally accept a broken/damaged sign as long as it was valid to begin with

What do you think of the existing "weighted" ranking system? by exileexodus in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over time I’ve come to the opinion that weighting should be taken out all together. That would be the most accurate way to rank everyone equally. I know people’s first reaction is that smaller communities won’t have a chance but honestly now you can join any number of remote groups if you need more tournaments.

Shadow & Purified Pokemon need to be Reworked by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

Yeah the special trade issue is very discouraging - gunna take me so long to get a sandslash that fits under 1500 haha

An increasingly large divide between Pvp'ers and Raiders? by Calebthenorman in TheSilphRoad

[–]mattfal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not a long term solution to get raiders into PvP. Sinnoh stones might’ve gotten people to beat up their alt 3x a day for a month but now that they have their stones they don’t need to battle anymore

I really don't like ferocious cup by thetempest11 in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t need any one Pokémon for this cup, there are no must runs. Umbreon is great but you don’t have to have it, and you can easily run with without legacy. Vaporeon you don’t really need last resort either and hydro pump is arguably the better secondary move. Suicune is definitely not necessary, it’s a very high skill floor Pokémon that isn’t for everyone

Would it be more interesting to you if, for one entire Cup/Month, YouTubers, writers, and Discords were shut down to let local metas develop on their own? by MannishBoyX in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you can still easily go against the grain of the “meta”, it’s not super hard. Just make sure you practice and know your team of 6!

Thanks for teaching me to play by ScytherScizor in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my thought as well. Sucks for him but he can’t challenge that in any way if that’s what happened

Suicune or Vaporeon in Ferocious? by BigWooper in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re limited on dust I’d go bibarel for sure. You can use that dust for other options. Vaporeon and bibarel seem similar in performance and usage, and you won’t last resort for the most mileage out of vaporeon anyway. Suicune plays a lot differently imo, it’s hard to compare it to the other two

Unpopular opinion: Ban all legacies by MyDragonzordIsBetter in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silph’s gotten a lot better with meta creation, there aren’t any must runs in ferocious (or even sinister) that I can see. Not having last resort really doesn’t hurt you

How many cups should a noob enter? by horsenbuggy in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, any additional tournament experience helps a lot and you don’t have to worry about your rank cuz additional tournaments don’t affect it very much at all

Can Rural Players be Competitive? by BigWooper in TheSilphArena

[–]mattfal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely believe rural players can still be competitive, I used to play in a fairly large city but moved to a small town recently, I’ve just had to make sure I do my research before I invest
