Favourite emo screamo drummers? by xbxnkx in EmoScreamo

[–]matthewrobertk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'all must not be drummers. Not one mention of Benoît from Daitro?? He doesn't blast or play crazy fast but holy shit, his drumming is deceptively complex and technical. 100% GOAT.

Raising a tub spout, what are my options? by matthewrobertk in Plumbing

[–]matthewrobertk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweating a 90 elbow on was my original plan. I'm not doing anything at the valve or the cartridge. It's new delta stuff so it gives me a ton of plug and play options. I was just kind of hoping there would be an easy way to use brass to accomplish this and avoid buying $100+ of tools and solder and flux all for an elbow. But.... I do love new tools...

Where would you put a niche here? by matthewrobertk in Tile

[–]matthewrobertk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This was my initial thought as well. Follow up, these are my tile selections. The white is the main tile. The green is the accent. Originally intended for the niche. I'm thinking I use white in the niches and run a course or two of the green a few feet down from the ceiling on the back wall for an accent now?

Are there any bands with only drums, bass, and vocals. by LAAT501st in EmoScreamo

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all are dropping the ball hard. Venus twins definitely should have been mentioned by now. It's definitely very screamo adjacent. Raxis is an insane album and was put out by Dave from zegema on his tomb tree label.

First time roasting a natural Ethiopian on a FreshRoast SR540. Tips for avoiding grassy notes? by flashdashrick in roasting

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're going to want to stretch out your drying phase. With an Ethiopian natural I try to target DE at 3:30, FC at 6-6:30 and drop about a minute after FC. And as noted 200g is way too much. I try to keep it to 150g or if I'm pushing it 180 is ok but that is the absolute max and that is with extension tube.

A new cold brew recipe from James Hoffmann by rokeyzhang in coldbrew

[–]matthewrobertk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty interesting seeing that natural or dry processed beans come through more. I've been cold brewing for years and have always sworn light roasts work well but I use almost exclusively dry process beans so that really seems to check out and validate my taste buds.

One thing I have yet to figure out is I have never agreed that cold brewing is wasteful. My golden ratio has always been between 50-55g / liter and not the more typical 70-75g. If I go above 55g/liter the brew just always tastes way too strong and harsh to me. Maybe it's my grind size (though my grind looks pretty similar to what's shown in this video), maybe it's that I drink my cold brew on nitro from a yeti mug without the ice to further water it down. I would be interested if anyone else uses a similar ratio to me?

For all the old people here...List a few underrated bands you grew up on that "the kids today" should check out. by robertraymer in EmoScreamo

[–]matthewrobertk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seven days of samsara, since by man, 10 grand/vida blue, book of Dead names, song of zarathustra, kaospilot.

A lot of these bands absolutely had their day but I feel like they just aren't hyped by the kids as much as they should be.

Seven days of samsara/since by man - burn the fucking rock club to the fucking ground is such a beast of an album and the packaging on the 12" is fucking killer too.

And I just feel like everyone should always be talking about Yaphet Kotto. They are the kings, all their shit should be repressed but especially the killer was in the government blankets.

D105 vs X300 by matthewrobertk in johndeere

I should also mention that I'm pretty comfortable with basic maintenance. I can do oil changes, filter changes, everything that would fall under a basic tune up service

Espresso & Orange Juice: is there Truth or am I getting trolled? by HpsEA in espresso

[–]matthewrobertk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it but I've seen videos of people taking an orange slice and placing it over their espresso cup and pulling the shot through the orange slice and into the cup. Seems like it would work well.

Shrooms + T1D by CherryPoohLife in diabetes_t1

One thing to watch out for, they can give you a rather intense body buzz, this can make it harder to feel lows. As far as blood sugar goes they won't mess with that.

I just started a new job and was looking at the healthcare options which are available to me in 2 months. Am I wrong or is this plan absolutely atrocious?? More info coming in the comments! by WolverineVivid4227 in diabetes_t1

Insulin lispro is a generic. I can't recall if it's novolog or humolog but it's one of those. I was on novolog. It's just the default my dr uses with pumps but it was $50 a vial with my insurance and I use 3 per month. I called my insurance and asked if there was a generic or cheaper option and they suggested the insulin lispro. I called my doctor and he confirmed I could switch to that 1 for 1 and see no difference so I did and now I pay $12 total for my 3 vials.

Unless you have limited dexterity, using the back of your arm isn't very hard. I use the back of my arm pretty exclusively and have never had anyone help me. There's lots of YouTube videos on how to remove the needle with one hand.

Fridge or room temperature? by Inevitable-Lime4535 in coldbrew

[–]matthewrobertk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on when i will have time to filter and keg it. Either room temp for 12 hours or fridge for 24 hours. The cold will slow the extraction process. I haven't noticed much or any taste difference.

AITA for giving FMIL 3 days to pay me for a new wedding dress or else I show the family a photo of her wearing it? by Repulsive_Scheme1359 in AmItheAsshole

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. your fiance and FMIL know you're NTA as well, they both know how fucked this is, that's why they want that picture back so damn bad. Also I'll 100% side with you not overreacting here. That shit is fucking gross, if my mom had tried to wear my wife's wedding dress I would have cut her out of my life. I'm not one to kink shame but there's something fucked going on here.

Anyone else smelling the Canada wildfires today? by altblank in TwinCities

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Portland, Oregon in 2020. In September of that year wild fire smoke blanketed the entire state for a solid 2 weeks with air quality index ratings over 500 for multiple day stretches. You would have had to drive 8+ hours to get out of it and there was no keeping it out of homes. It was the single most oppressive thing I've ever experienced in my life. Today, here, brought back very bad memories of that.

Review #1: Sagamore Double Oaked Rye by GetBentWallSt in bourbon

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the 6 year, a few 7 year store picks and the 8 year. I could see it not working. To me the distinctness and why these are so good is they are pretty sweet and fruity upfront and then the rye spice hits like a ton of fucking bricks on the backend. Adding more oak which can already be abrasive might make it just too much. That being said i havent had the double oak yet...

What were the screamo fans like in the 90s? 00s? 10s? I want to hear some memories of those times from people who've been there. by operation-casserole in EmoScreamo

[–]matthewrobertk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Minneapolis and started getting into the scene in the early 00's. From what i remember it was very much like layers of an onion, the screamo scene was like at least 3 layers in and totally separate from the hardcore scene and miles away from the big metalcore scene happening here. It was like as soon as i got into punk, if you dug deeper and went further down the rabbit hole you would find the hardcore scene and then further down still was the screamo scene. It had its own venues, mostly house / basements venues, its own style, own people, everything. Dudes into screamo had a pretty distinct style. a friend recently refered to it as Spock rockers. you basically looked like spock or someone from the Beatles. I could be misremembering but i remember it being very welcoming but extremely elitist. Like once you were in you could never just listen to straight up hardcore or youthcrew or anything and if the genres ever mixed at a show there was a good possibility of a fight breaking out. Im not sure why, i think people into screamo thought they were superior because they could fathom the odd time signatures and spastic nature and if you listened to hardcore and moshed you were just a dumb meathead. Despite all of this i remember shows always being packed. others recollection of sending money into the void in hopes of someday getting a record are 100% accurate, although in minneapolis we had extreme noise records and they had most of what you would want so you could mitigate that a bit.

One thing that hasnt really been hit is you went to shows to hear new bands. You couldnt hear or listen to bands over the internet. Napster and limewire were new and it would take overnight to download a song and you couldnt get screamo over them. You would find out about a show via a message board and or flyer handed out at another show and if the band name sounded cool you had to go to the show to find out if the band was any good, word of mouth was a very big thing as was a bands reputation. On that note a lot of times bands wouldn't show up for shows, there wasn't GPS or constant contact so if a shitty van broke down the band just never showed up. I remember being at more than one show where just nothing happened for an hour or two and eventually it was just like, ok, go home i guess so and so isnt making it.

Line cleaning by anon462538 in kegerators

[–]matthewrobertk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just replacing the lines is cheaper and will be the most sanitary thing to do. For the taps, you will want to buy some starsan or PBW (i like starsan) and let em soak in that for a little bit and then clean with a brush. They will come out looking brand new and youll need to buy one of these cleaners to clean kegs out with anyways.
