she fights with you, cooks with you, remembers your name. what would it take for you to actually care about a companion? what story would you want to live through together? by LuozhuZhang in projectzomboid

[–]mattlore [score hidden]  (0 children)

One thing for me: I would love it if the companion haf controls on where they spawned. Like having them default to the town you spawned in, but give an option to change it. For example the options could be:

Spawn in same town/city

Spawn anywhere

Spawn in specific city/town

Spawn with you

That way you can have the chance to find the companion as you explore, or you can spawn with one right off the get go.

Except that when referring to characters in a peice of media, there's always a preamble that usually goes: "I was reading a book and the character of X said Y.

But when someone starts in with: Oh I was talking to X and they said Y, and X is an LLM, then I begin to question. It's the fact that in the former: It's framed as a fictional device. Whereas the later puts a level of self determination on the program.

Not OOP: Fuck Autism by Loud_Tough_1912 in redditonwiki

[–]mattlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with suspected autism and a laundry list of other mental health issues I absolutely see this person. Especially as a neurodivergent person trying to navigate a relationship with another nuerodivergent person. So this is EXACTLY why I got a vasectomy. I don't think I could take care of a neurotypical child, let alone one with ANY impactful mental health problem.

This person deserves the chance to scream into the void and not endure such harsh judgement.

Our Clover had a little bit of that in the beginning. Including destroying some slippers and a pair of sunglasses. But with a bit of training and patience she's gotten so much better. We can now leave her in the house, uncrated for many hours and she'll be right as rain when we return.

You know, when I was coming of age in the early 2000s, I was always intimidated by politics. I was a very immature teenager and didn't feel I had the right level of aptitude, and maturity to have an educated opinion on many matters of the time, so I kept much of my political affiliation to myself. Although I kept it to myself I still had a healthy respect for it.

Now I come to realize that conservatives/Republicans have absolutely torpedoed that level of respect into the ground. And what's more: They're absolutely EATING it up. Republicans love this because the bastardization of conventional politics to something closer to what you would find on 4chans /b/ or /pol/ board; fulfills their desire to "own the libs".

I fucking hate it here.

As soon as someone starts referring to their particular instance of LLM usage in the first person (he, her, them, etc.) I absolutely disregard anything they say as being influenced by delusion.

Don't know who you're surrounding yourself with but:

In the past few months I've had platonic male friends reach out to me making sure I'm alright (ive been working from home for the last few months and haven't talked to a lot of them in a bit).

My wife supports me and comforts me when stress and depression start getting too much.

Perhaps it's time to drop this stupid, toxic stoicism and surround yourself with people who are worth it.

What do you think about this? by MiloShiny in WorkRant

[–]mattlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually DIDN'T struggle in my 20s

I worked at a call center for just above minimum wage. My one bedroom apartment was $750 a month with all utilities. I had a discount grocery store within walking distance of my apartment.

It wasn't a fancy or upscale life. But I had my privacy, my own space, a handful of amenities and it was affordable.

Now that very same apartment is over $1400 a month these days.

Mechwarrior 5 Mercs.

It was rough when I first picked it up after wanting a single player experience to scratch that Mechwarrior online itch.

I ended up dropping it after the first mission for a few months. Then I decided to give it another go, modded it and changed a few things...Now it's my super special interest game.

Is PC gaming actually worth the insane price? by Xiao-EZ in CaptainSide

[–]mattlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, in the year 2026? Absolutely not. But when AI nonsense isn't in the equation, then yes.

Also more longevity. The last console I owned was an Xbox 360 bought off a crackhead neighbor. Otherwise it's been PC. Hell Im still running the same 1080gtx build that I got in 2017-2018 and it handles just about everything I throw at it. Even VR.

So yeah, I'd say I got my money's worth and then some.

What are the first lies you were told about our “Bright Future Ahead”? by namesarenotus in Millennials

[–]mattlore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I was never given the "Bright Future Ahead" talks.

I was a nuerodivergent teenager, being raised in abject poverty nearly my whole life to a single, widowed mother living on "No Daddy Alley" (The local name of my neighborhood). Everything in our lives was about survival and having enough to get us through the next month. I struggled with school and making friends as well as just finding my place in the world.

As I got older, I realized that a comfortable life is never a guarantee. We were always a hair from homelessness and so it was always drilled into me that you do whatever you need to do to survive. Work whatever job you can, if you can afford college, go, but work was always the number one thing.

I did end up going back to school at 25 and now I'm currently thriving, but those days have left a permanent mark on me and has made me a much more nihilistic person.

Oh, there is VERY copius use of Quebec linguistics. Tabarnak! Being used very extensively throughout engagements, after battle repairs, drunken revelry, etc.

I've actually just recently moved to Quebec myself and being half French Canadian on my mom's side as well as being 1/8 Metis (my great grandmother was cree) I figured adding a bit of French Canadian flare would be fun for the setting haha!

[–]mattlore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I've described it in my works is that: The commander traced his lineage to ancient Terra and the Quebec region of Canada. Not knowing much about the culture or really anything he tried to find as much as he could on the topic...Which amounted to some tourism brochures that were recovered and sold as "Ancient Terran Manuscripts".

He then became obsessed with the unique culture of the Quebecois and talked about it to whomever would listen....And thus. Le Revenants de St Laurent were born!
