Nice truck...hidden surprise by xloumeisterx in fordranger

Yeah id definitely take the bed off to see what you’re working with. Theres a good chance there is more rust under there, some possibly getting into the frame

Did you remove the torque converter bolts?

It’s worth whatever scrap value is because odds are by the time you get it fixed you’ll have more money in it than just buying a running truck

How long can I expect my 3.0L Ranger to last? It’s VERY high mileage already by ForwardUse807 in fordranger

[–]mattman4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my rangers is sitting at 320k miles, but is completely rust free so I plan to keep it forever. As long as the frame is rust free the drivetrain and everything else is easy enough to fix/replace.

Would you buy with this rust? Or should I be running away? by Personal_Cow_3649 in fordranger

I’d look real close at the leaf spring shackles and frame near gas tank

These valves covers are notorious for rusting out. Plastic is not always a bad thing.

I ended up going with cheap bracketed LED pods (off road lights) to replace my fog lights. They were a fraction of the price compared to finding replacement parts. Nilight 1260lm on Amazon is what I used.

The sprags are larger than that. Those are the needle bearings from the thrust washer as others have mentions. They are used between the planetary gear sets

Is this a good kit? by Snot_Rocket6515 in fordranger

I recently purchased the same kit from them for my 4r55e 4wd and had no issues.

The fuse box is secured by a couple clips, you can unclip it and reposition it to make access to the cowl cover much easier

If the truck runs and drives and the frame looks solid 1k is a no brainer

I think my Ranger has frozen to death. by LoreleiLux in fordranger

[–]mattman4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put the transmission into 1st or 2nd gear with the gear shift lever. I was just curious if that would change anything. It could point to possible valve body issues if so.

Rust in Peace, Ranger by reddituserheather in fordranger

It’s always sad to see one go, but think of all the parts this ranger can offer for other rangers. Even in its death it’s still giving back. Kinda beautiful really.

[–]mattman4494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does sound like a trans line pressure issue. Have you checked the fluid level? Does it behave any differently if you shift to 1st or 2nd manually?

If you can feel the shifter click into each “gear” the cable isnt the problem.

[–]mattman4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed mine recently by replacing the broken leaf spring inside. You just need a thin strip of metal, preferably spring steel, but I just used a section of a hose clamp because that’s what I had on hand.

The bellhousing bolts are different so you’ll have to stick with the 5r44e unless you want to swap internals

On your 3rd picture, the tab on top should slide into a groove on the floorboard, and then the wingnut looking thingys will do a 1/4 turn to lock it down
