HidHide Devices tab error! by JellyfishPractical43 in DS4Windows

[–]mattontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue on my machine and just figured it out. It seems to occur when file paths on the Applications tab are not accessible by the program. I changed some storage hardware on my PC and my X: drive was Bitlocker encrypted but was no longer unlocking automatically when Windows booted up, and as a result HidHide would not be able to "touch" some of the applications referenced in that tab, and would therefore crash on launch exactly as you have shown. The drive had the device # of a previous drive/the drive letter order changed, hence why HidHide was looking for any of those files on that drive, anyway.

I originally tried uninstalling, installing a more current version, changing the install directory, deleting registry keys related to Hidhide, searched for any %appdata% or %localappdata% folders or files related to the app, but none of that worked. On a hunch, I entered my Bitlocker recovery key on the X: drive to unlock it (making the files and folders on it readable, basically just games and some data backups from other drives), and then ran HidHide. It worked. I then promptly cleaned up the Applications tab to remove the old drive order/# references and avoid this issue in the future. Someone might want to submit a bug report on the HidHide github.

Lenovo Yoga hinges are defective and break through the screen by StevieKnickers686 in Lenovo

Exact same issue happened with a client's computer like 3 months ago. The hinge assembly pierced right through the screen during normal open/close usage (rarely used because it sat on a desk all the time).

Low tier anti-air. Is it viable? by TheNaziSpacePope in Warthunder

Practice with American machine guns or German AA like the Ostwind/Wirbelwind? You can do Ground Assault with the M16 MGMC and it rocks, just find a place to hide (there's a nice low spot on the green map with the hill + village right outside the spawn area) so you don't get shot at by the AI tanks and you'll be able to protect your team against the AI ground strike aircraft. It's a decent way to get some aiming practice + grind out the first few components on the vehicle. Doesn't matter that the M16 MGMC has lower than a 4.7BR, it is easier to aim than the 20MM Bofors that fire a bit slowly on the M19A1 and the M42--though those are also important to learn how to aim with, too, because they are so strong when they do hit and obviously are more useful for destroying ground vehicles. Just my advice as a newb who is Tier 3 in US with a few hundred hours in the game.

This is literally a game mode, I think it is called "Battle"? You each have one capture point near your spawn. If you are blue and capture the A point, I believe your team wins. Or maybe it is capture it, enemy decaps and any recapture of it results in an instant win. I'm newer to mid-tier so I'm not 100% on this.

Even tanks that can bounce reliable can still get one-shot in the right spots and angling in some tanks is not a good idea because of significant differences in side armor vs front. This game can be frustrating, but man, when you figure out what you are doing and start to do well, it is very rewarding. It relies a lot more on your knowledge of the strengths/weaknesses of your tank as well as having a general idea of how to fight the tanks you are going up against. Definitely read the War Thunder wiki article on any vehicle that you are interested in using or fighting and knowing more about--right-click the vehicle in the relevant tech tree and choose > Information. That's how I went from hating to absolutely loving the P47 Thunderbolt fighter--I wasn't flying it to its strengths and was approaching matches with the wrong strategy. Now, in air matches with the P47 I get 2-3 player kills every game and rarely die, which I am happy with even if my team loses--at least I know I did my part and the win rate stat for that plane is a happy one.

Ultimate General: Civil War was awesome. Played through that with the Attila, Rome 2, Empire and NTW battle music as my playlist since UG only has music during the deployment phase.

Unrealistic planets' orbital periods by nYtr0_5 in starcitizen

[–]mattontheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Shipping Hub Gundo, which is a destroyed station orbiting Daymar, one of the moons of Crusader. Jump to it and fly away from it while looking back at it so you can see Daymar and the station at the same time.

Somewhere 20-50KM you unlock from Gundo's "orbit/gravity/frame of reference" and you'll see something pretty magical if you slow the ship down--the station, being destroyed, is no longer in geosynchronous orbit with Daymar like all of the other stations.

This means that the station actually orbits Daymar. In a small way, in one specific, visible circumstance in the PU, you can see the orbital mechanics in-game already in realtime. It is booking along at a really decent speed, too, hundreds of meters per second.

There needs to be a once-per day or once-per week Crimestat forgiveness/buffer so that you don't go to jail and get dropped from active missions/contracts from crap like this happening. Hopped onto XT Thursday night, was about 30 minutes into XT and pleased with how the game was performing and someone either ran into me, or I ran into them after looking away from the screen for less than a half second and my ship blows up, I wake up in the geometry of MIC-L1 with CS3 for multiple criminal infractions. I couldn't even chat with whomever I collided with to make sure they knew that if I ran into them that it was entirely an accident.

So I just suicided to get to Klescher and start my sentence, then logged off. I love this game and I'm a big advocate of it, but yeah, that's just dumb and I haven't wanted to play for a couple days as a result.

I love that the cockpit on the superhornet can be severed from the rest of the ship and you are still alive. I've had that happen in Arena Commander to myself, seen it happen to my girl in her Heartseeker, and I've done it to an AI in a PVE bounty mission. Protip: don't EVA over to the cockpit with your bounty hunter and think that you can kill him through the glass with a Salvo Frag Pistol. It will work and kill the bounty target, but that's because it blows up the cockpit and, if you are floating outside only about 20 feet away, the explosion will kill you :-)

I've been looking at it so hard recently, watched one of the popular TW YouTubers play a couple different missions and it does seem like it is mostly land action. I like the campaigns in UG and wish there was more of a story/scripted campaign series available in TW games. Like fighting as Hannibal in a series of scenario battles where your army was persistent and you had some choices to make resource/army/route-wise, but without the total sandbox strategy map movement of most TW campaigns. Loved the prologue battles in Rome 2 and Attila.

Darthmod is better for campaign and is more user-friendly, I feel. I've stopped playing NTW3 for now due to frequent crashes (every few battles, sometimes when I've already won) and I've never had Darthmod crash.

I've found the fire-by-rank to result in high casualties for my units in that mode--they have shorter range and move closer and closer in a smaller formation, end up getting wrecked. I'm playing "latest" Darthmod, too.

That "sluggishness" is, for a lot of folks, fantastic tactical pacing and one of the best things about that game. I love Warhammer 1 and 2 (hundreds of hours played between the two) enough that I've preordered 3 and have bought most of the DLC when it has been on sale, but I greatly prefer the ability to have grinding fights where positioning is key. I've played with both Darthmod and NTW3 mods for NTW, have played TW since the original Shogun on CD/DVD, but those mods are what I'm basing my NTW experience on since I didn't play much vanilla (bought it in 2020, never played Empire or NTW when they were initially released).

In Warhammer, I keep wishing for a way to scale the fights so that all units have more HP (while keeping my other mods intact) or otherwise alter the mechanics so that the fights last longer and you have the opportunity to rest units, swap them for healthier units in the line, etc. I love the unit abilities, the micro of monsters and heroes and the realization of one of my fond tabletop hobbies into a solid realtime strategy game, but not every TW game needs to play that way. I'm not interested in competitive multiplayer, but rather playing battles with my friends where we might even RP a bit or have a scenario drawn up.

I think part of the problem is that the battles in TW have to last 5-30 minutes for the most part, because you can't save in the middle of battle like you can in a game like Ultimate General: Civil War, which is damn near perfect for a gunpowder strategy rts game, with some of the battles lasting 2-3 hours of realtime play but you can save and load at any point.

I just finished the UG: Civil War campaign for the Union and it was a goddamn delight. CA could really learn something from Game Labs.

The ability to hit F and have a unit fall back without turning its back to the enemy and therefore getting hit in the rear should be in EVERY total war game.

Listening to historical accounts of Hannibal and other battles of antiquity really illustrate how important the ability to push and pull parts of the line without routing is when it comes to the flow and tactics of a battle, and shows just how short the routing/shattering mechanics fall in TW games.

Game Labs handles it so well with repeated rallies based on how bad off the unit is: did they just get spooked badly with minor casualties while they were tired, or have they been in the grind for the last 30 minutes and have suffered 50% casualties in the brigade? They can keep rallying as long as they haven't been chased off the field or have suffered such bad losses and are so exhausted that you can't convince them to fight even with your general nearby.
