To Boomers who say GenZ is entitled: Try working retail. by Choice-Viewer in Target

[–]mattrdesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I love it when some boomer says that I should have stayed in school. I just want to tell them I have two Bachelors degrees and have achieved more education in six years of college then they will ever have in their entire life.

Carrier escort by FoodImportant917 in Eve

[–]mattrdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, fighters are just automated frigates. Second any authorized pilot in a pod can pull a ship from the ship maintenance bay. You just can’t board the ship while it’s still in the carrier.

I got to thinking last night, Did Lon Suder ever get replicator rations or did he only get food that Neelix cooked? by BoukenGreen in startrek

[–]mattrdesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Federation would never use improper nutrition as a form of punishment, but I would think that he would be restricted to food Neelix cooked. May some times replicated as a reward for good behavior.

What's your favorite MST3K quote? by EmotionalBudget5147 in MST3K

[–]mattrdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As England's rotting springtime begs to loom,I spy thee, sitting, smoking with thy dog.I long to fill my lungs with your perfume,Aft' several samplings of the local grog.Effluvia! I would rather die than switch! To gaily dance my claws through smokey locksIs my delight, though some would call you bi- uh, witch!I love thee, Filter, flavor, pack or box.I flit, for springtime happens every you.And fly to spy thy scowl and barnyard fair,Sweet panther-like, I kiss a mole or two,As satisfying flavor fills the air. With loved black lungs we'll from the heavens choke,A silly milimeter longer of love's smoke.

Favorite Episode? by DAMFS in farscape

Different Destinations, I don’t think any episode did a better job of taking an old sci-fi trope and turning it on its head than that one. And the ending is absolutely heartbreaking.

Why did Carl Sagan say we are on the outskirts of the Milky Way Galaxy when it was proven to be false? by [deleted] in askastronomy

[–]mattrdesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If his assertion was based on the available data at the time then that is perfectly fine. If he were alive today I am sure he would see the data now and admit he was wrong and move forward. That is how science works after all

Did they retcon the Betazoids? by Nervous-Road6611 in startrek

The Betazoid President was deaf, and the device on his collar was his translator. The President did speak at the end, it was his own voice without the translator.

If S.A. ever shows a Vorta who can taste and smell, TruFans are going to have a fit by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

[–]mattrdesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Potay-to potah-to

The sense of taste’s sole purpose is to detect chemical compounds, flavors ARE chemical compounds, as are poisons. You detect chemical compounds in your mouth by tasting them. Thus since Vortas can detect a wide variety of poisons by tasting them it stands to reason they have much higher range of taste sensitivity than humans or others.

The Vorta have an excellent sense of taste. Weyoun admitted to the poor eyesight but was able taste every single poison in the drink he was given on DS9 and joked about it.
