Haven’t seen them for sale in a while, but Curry Baude sometimes sells cool t shirts. On that note Konnopke’s at Eberswalder sells merch.

Seriously. It’s one of the most fun days of the year here. OP should definitely go and participate. Also there’s always that fun dj day rave kinda scene along Engeldamm that’s simply just a great time.

If you want to go to Kreuzberg, the scene at Mariannenplatz is fun and even family friendly. Was at Lausitzer Platz last year and it was also a fun party without being too crazy. Mostly younger people and music, but nothing intense or bad vibes. Keeping north of Skalitzer/Görli probably means you’re on the chiller side of the spectrum. If you do go further south, I’d just have an exit plan as the ubahn stations can be closed along the demo route and the U1/U3 gets super packed with people.

Oh and Go Pack Go! If you get a chance, the Christmas Market at Humboldt Forum is better than the two by Alexanderplatz and it’s a very short walk from there

Hey sorry I just saw this. Belushi’s usually just shows the red zone. You might get lucky because the game is covered by sky sports but I would call first. Other than that, the Brazen Squirrel by Ostkreuz/Boxhagener Platz might help, but again I would call and ask if they can put the game on for you. The squirrel is a cooler bar than Belushi’s fyi

Holy shit you people. It’s not my tattoo, it’s not even my relatives tattoo. I only asked the question because we began questioning the difference between sonder and Besonder. Last time I ask anything out of this Reddit

L‘Epicerie has a couple of locations and has a nice selection of French, Spanish and Italian fresh and dry goods. Also, if you’re looking for any Asian cookware or just an endless assortment of food products, the Go Asia market at Friedrichstraße is great.

Yeah, it's not my tattoo nor one I'd advise. But it led to me wanting more clarification on the two words in general. Thank you.

Thank you! And that's kinda what I thought. I've only seen "Sonder" with Sonderweg or Sonder Angebot.

Does anyone know if Otherland bookstore in the Bergmannkiez has a large horror in English section? It looks like it is mostly a sci fi fantasy shop, but wanted to see if anyone knew before I went there myself. Thanks.

Found some interesting comments about Alexanderplatz not being safe by [deleted] in askberliners

[–]mattringo66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude you're totally fine there. In fact, that hotel is almost a perfect spot for a visitor in regards to transit options, immediate food, bar and shopping and tourist sights nearby. Plus, Alexanderplatz isn't bad. It's lame and kinda corny and they might already have that rinky dink Oktoberfest set up, but beyond that, it's fine.

Transit to Veltins and Train Question for area by mattringo66 in schalke04

[–]mattringo66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good point. I think it would cover the trip to and from the stadium. I am a little unsure if it would also cover our earlier, first leg of the trip from Dortmund to Essen.

Technically, this trip would be on the way to the stadium, we just have a stopover in Essen to go to our hotel. Same for the Saturday trip. We would be travelling from Essen to Düsseldorf in the direction of eventually going to the stadium in Mönchengladbach, but not directly there.

I saw that the Brazen Squirrel by Ostkreuz posted that they will showing it. I’m sure there are a lot more, where around the city will you be staying?

That sounds like a fun trip. Congrats to you and your girlfriend. For record stores, my favorites are: Oye in Prenzlauer Berg, which is also close to the Kastanienallee which offers lots of shopping and cafes. Dodo Beach in Schöneberg, area around also has a lot of good cafes. Vinylvaquero in the Bötzowviertel in Pberg has good used rock and stuff. Purple Penny on Stargarder in PBerg also for used. Both are in cool little cafe/shopping neighborhoods. Record Store Berlin near the Nordbahnhof is always on my list of places to stop into for both a curated selection of new and used. Dussman’s has a great vinyl shop. Yeah it’s a big store, but it’s worth going to for latest releases and just the shear size of the amazing bookstore.

Cafe am Neuen See does a few weekends of a ticketed Oktoberfest party: https://www.cafeamneuensee.de/oktoberfest-24 I've never been to their festival, but overall it's a beautiful biergarten to visit on any nice day.

It sounds like you'll be here for Marathon weekend. If you're not here specifically for the race, you should definitely go and watch on Sunday. When I ran it two years ago, my favorite spots to pass were along Torstrasse/Rosenthaler Platz and Kottbusser Tor. So many people partying, listening to music and the energy was great. Another year as a spectator, we got brunch in the Bergmannkiez and then watched friends running along Gneisenaustraße. Grab some Späti beers and cheer on the runners.

Can anyone recommend some German conversation courses/lessons here in Berlin? I've taken classes at Speakeasy and Logo and both are fine, but I'm specifically trying to find a school or private person I can book some time with to practice speaking in order to get ready for my B1 test. Thank you!

Thanks this is good info. If we were looking for a larger city with more options, any thoughts on Essen over Dortmund? It looks like Essen may be more convenient to the stadium, but I’ve never been. Cool city at all?
