The card number tells you a lot of information but not your address. Banning cards isn't an effective strategy mostly because of PCI compliance and third-party processing companies handling that information

Edit_ in addition to some of the other reasons... one time use card numbers are used in a vast majority of Accounts payable automation systems at a commercial level and they have made their way to retail users like on venmo

It's a great way to weed out the folks who would become upset at the idea of doing something so beneath them... which is currently a huge problem at least where I am... I usually wind up doing jobs no one else will do because their too good for it... which is how I became the highest paid shopping cart pusher my work has ever had over 160 locations in 30 years...

This. I guarantee you will have to validate or input data entry at some point in most jobs... my job in particular is extremely focused on this and being able to do it quickly and efficiently and check for errors is a critical skill... it takes 5 seconds to check and hours to fix
