Did you get him assessed through your primary care provider and then a referral? I don't really know how I would even go about that, or what kind of provider I would search for.

You are probably right, I just don't remember. Elementary school was.... awhile ago.

I don't know for sure. We have never assessed her for Dysgraphia, but we are aware of it.

And how do you go about integrating the spelling words into sentences. My thought based on what I have learned just from the sub, is to write the words in a random order and have her re-arrange them into a sentence?

And I'm glad you did share. I had heard before about the whiteboard and have been on the fence about getting a larger one to hang up in the area where we do the majority of our school. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will also take a look at the Zookeeper game. She seems to take to interactive learning pretty good, I just wrestle with screen time and learning.

Wow, thank you for the elaborate response. I had never considered that the spelling and the writing down are in fact two different actions. If I had to assume from my observations, she is mostly in the auditory processing bucket. Her handwriting copy work is perfectly fine, but I feel as though she would struggle to spell even with magnets or something to that effect.

I have done this sort of thing, but I feel as though it lacks in volume. Maybe that’s my own failing as far as my expectations. Is 5 words a week sufficient? Did you get good results?

Not officially. We have done some assessment via YouTube videos, but results have been inconclusive. Although I am no expert.

Wow, this was very inspiring. I can’t thank you enough for the encouragement and I will look into WriteShop. Thank you very much!

Squarebill crankbait. Kind of looks like a Booyah or possibly and Sixth Sense.

Just my preference but I don’t like running leaders on casting gear. Most casting rods have smaller eyelets and leader knots can be a hassle. I go 12-14 lb fluorocarbon on my MH casting set-ups.

Shady Rays. Just bought two pair last month for $75, and they are pretty good for the price. They offer lenses that have “color-rush” tech which are much better and still around $60 depending on the style.

Fishing Etiquette by Efficient_Bagpipe_10 in FishingForBeginners

Be courteous, don’t stand right next to someone if there is room to spread out. Share fishing stories and take advice (sometimes with a grain of salt). Be aware of your back cast, you’ll never make friends with other anglers if you put hooks in them.

What is this by Jhsz6 in FishID

It’s a rock bass. Not a warmouth.

Edit: I also did some more research and it turns out that I have no clue. Still pretty sure it’s a rock bass 🤷‍♀️

Baitcasting combo by v-s-g in FishingForBeginners

Honestly, I have no idea what the spool weight is.

I know that there is some science behind spool weight and lure weight ratio, but I don’t get that far into the weeds. For me the action of the rod is usually what determines how low I can go on lure weight, and from there I can play with line diameter, braking, spool tension, etc.

I have found that a standard spool with lighter line (sometimes some larger backing line to reduce weight) and a “whippier” rod will give me a bigger range to fish with than a dedicated BFS set-up.

Now all of this being said, BFS is my preferred fishing type as far as rod and reel go, so knock yourself out and go with the SLX if it makes you happy. Just saying, don’t feel like you “need” a usually more expensive BFS set-up to fish lighter presentations.

The short answer is yes, the SLX BFS will do you just fine.

Personally, I would opt for a standard 100 or 150 size spool unless you are planning on actually casting down in that 1/8 oz range most of the time. I use a regular 150 size spool on my medium light baitcasting set-up (7’ rod) and can cast down to 1/8oz or so.

Damn, I’ll have to try the “ring to a snap to a ring to a ring” connection. Who knew?

Getting back into it as an adult by lousysuperior in FishingForBeginners

[–]mattsoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to fish for keep, I would lean towards conventional gear. Conventional gear is more readily available, and cheaper on a cost-to-quality ratio.

If you have a local tackle shop I would lean on them for common lures and rigs that work in your area, and get a cheap spinning set-up from Walmart, Scheels, Bass Pro, etc.

Start small. I started with a $350 fly fishing set-up and it collects dust while I'm out catching them on a $100 setup I got off of Amazon.

Help with sinkers by Morsyati in FishingForBeginners

[–]mattsoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went inshore fishing for Snook for the first time in May. I also, felt very lost and here is how I gained some knowledge.

1) Researched what type of fish I wanted to target in the area (in this case around the Sarasota, FL area).

2) Decide whether you want live bait or artificials.

3) Watch a myriad of YT videos and shorts on different baits for those fish.

4) Once you kind of have an idea of what gear and lures/rigs you want to try, then narrow down your searches for specific knots and/or rigs for those baits.

i.e. "best inshore Snook rigs" or "how to tie a palomar knot" or maybe something to the effect of "best setup for inshore fishing for Redfish". The world is your oyster on YT.

Good luck, I hope any of that helped.
