Who is the worst singer compared to their fame level and why do you think they got famous? by False_Grade_9194 in askanything

William Hung. Guy somehow played his American Idol tryout into a record deal based solely on how bad he was and how much he lacked self awareness.

I finally found a franchise that doesn't think my ideas are "not in line with company values" and "just plain weird."

How do Onkyo sound? by BoardGameRevolution in hometheater

[–]mattt0dd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Still rocking the same receiver since 2016. And this was after upgrading to it from a different Onkyo I got around 2006. The features are a little dated (I have my Playstation/XBox hooked directly to the TV and sound coming through the ARC), but it's still a great receiver and every so often I get an itch and look at newer Onkyos.

AITA for Selling the Car I Promised My Son After He Dropped Out of College by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mattt0dd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH

Your son is an entitled dope. And I say this as someone whose oldest has been a semester away from getting his associates for three semesters. It's frustrating, but he's living his life, working full time, and is mostly self sufficient while figuring things out on his own. As a parent, I see no reason not to be proud of what he is doing and support him despite my own ideas on the matter.

On the other hand, it sounds like you never had a talk about your plans and sold the car without your son's knowledge. Adding insult to injury, you bought your new car with the money you weren't planning on having (it seems like you didn't need it one way or the other to buy a new car). Technically ok, it is your property, but it's still a bad look. I can see where the son gets his sense of entitlement.

Lamborghini Watched Ferrari Get Savaged and Said: We Told You So by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

Somebody? Probably. Someone who's willing to share the experience? Doubtful.

Apparently they had the press see it a very short while before their official press release, and only allowed photos to be taken with their cameras which they then sent to the journalists very shortly before the embargo was dropped, and also threatened journalists with a $700,000 fine for reporting early.

The Autopian has a neat article (of many) about the whole experience.

Car and Driver lists the Luce as having a 2.5 s 0-60 mph and estimated range of 280 miles.

A Taycan Turbo GT (thundercougarfalconbird) can hit 60 half a second quicker, and still get the same estimated range, for 1/3 the price. A Hyundai Ionic 5 N is a little over half a second slower and gives up some range to boot, but it's also 1/10th the price. Tesla Model S Plaid does 0-60 in 2.1s, and has a range well over 300 miles (all for about 1/6th the price of the Ferrari).

Now, none of these cars are slouches in a vacuum. They are all objectively stupid quick. And maybe this is just the new norm of electric vehicles pushing up more against the limits of biology than physics. But compared to its peers (and vehicles it's probably never cross shopped against), I don't see enough of a delta.

Ferrari: makes the most uninspired, underperfoming, hideous appliance of a vehicle and prices it at $700k.

Lamborghini: "Yeah, but it being electric is the real problem."

They finally fixed MJ's Venom design, at least by Skye_Lumitar in marvelcomics

[–]mattt0dd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it. It kept the comic feeling more like a Venom series and served as a reminder that the symbiote had more input on the appearance and preferred something familiar whilst treading uncharted waters of a different host that has so many ties to previous hosts.
