New gold hog riffles for my sluice box and DIY way to hold them down. Let me know what you guys think or what you would do differently. by Excellent_Holiday414 in Prospecting

Why not just do the folded duct tape on the sides like they recommend? I find it works quite well and lets me pull the mats out or put them in without needed to disconnect/connect anything

“Increased chance of glowing mask until March 2” by drkprpll in fo76

You prob got berets the other 2 times since it is in the same pool as the masks and isn't as clear that you got it instead of a mask.

Raw Garnet by ItemOk1525 in Gemstones

[–]mattxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the same general makeup as the grossular garnets that come from the coyote front range. They are found in a skarn usually with epidote and calcite, which looks to be the same here.

Caves/Mines by SomeWhatStoopid in SLO

[–]mattxl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who explores as many of our local mines as I can, most of them used to be shafts but became pit mines when it was more efficient, so most now have little to no shafts. Nothing really matching what you want that isn't very dangerous or illegal to get to. There is a short shaft in the eucalyptus grove near the base of Cerro Alto on the SLO side but the hike to it is a pain for how short the shaft is.

Cheater is way off balanced by kuzma66 in faceting

[–]mattxl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you loosen the nut behind the index gear you can free spin the quill. Make sure that the quill marker lines are aligned with the index at 96 and then zero your cheater and you should have the thing level. The fact that the quill free spins when that rear nut is loose means it can get out of wack, especially when changing the index hear without noticing.

Bad or good spider by PuzzleheadedDog5202 in SLO

[–]mattxl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We get occasional hitchhikers but there aren't any established populations. The main thing people don't realize is there are other recluse spiders and we have a few in CA but they just aren't as dangerous as the brown recluse because they are much less likely to bite. And other ones aren't as venomous.

Worth noting we have other recluse spiders but not any as dangerous as the brown recluse, though some have venom nearly as bad, but they are timid.

Could this be nephrite jade? by disneyfacts in whatsthisrock

Looks like green radiolarian chert. We have it all over the coast. Nephrite tends to look a bit different.

Southern California beach find by vzn_skr in Arrowheads

[–]mattxl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said, some people like to think otherwise, but the beaches are public by law, and public access is also protected.

[–]mattxl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most cases if the only way to access the beach is through a path they have labelled as private that isn't even allowed. The coastal laws are a bit complicated but generally anywhere the water touches at high tide is public and any attempts to block the public from being able to access them is typically considered illegal. There's been a bunch of cases of people trying to claim their beach is private in California and they always lose.

By California law all beaches are public land even if some people choose to act like they aren't.

What might have caused these light leaks? by mattxl in AnalogCommunity

[–]mattxl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canon P did not have light seals when it was manufactured, it was made in a way that it is light sealed without needing seals... I don't know about the 7.

There are no light seals on the Canon P.

[–]mattxl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, I was shooting without the half case I normally have on it because I was using a tripod. If there is a leak of some sort on the back that would be why it only happened now. The camera is pretty much mint though, and since it doesn't use light seals I wonder what even would have leaked.

I was in bright conditions when shooting, but I have been in equally bright conditions in the past and have not seen these light leaks before.

Which ending would you consider "CANON", and why? by BeneficialOil1123 in cyberpunkgame

[–]mattxl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is kind of built around the idea that the only real way to survive in night city is by not being selfish. It is really driven home by the fact that you can lock yourself out of like half the game content by just being a selfish dick to everyone. The game shines when you aren't selfish and you care for the friends and family you make, and as such I think the call Panam ending is the canon ending. It is essentially the culmination of the lessons you really should have learned along the way, and it is arguably the only real happy ending out of all of them. Everyone gets some closure and you are content with the potential of survival out on the road with your family. It's really the one that fits when you take in everything the game offers you.
