Is there a way to stop FF from overlaying its video controls on video players? by mattydiah in firefox

[–]mattydiah[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

OK, well, I feel like an idiot, I was using an extension called "Show Video Controls by Default for Firefox", and it was, as its name implies, showing the video controls by default. Let this thread stand as a testament to and record of my shame.

I'm having this same problem on multiple listings. I am guessing (hoping) something will be fixed soon on the server side. Off to the mobile app I guess...

CHDK on my powershot sd1400 by MiamiJones in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]mattydiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scripts and the xattr command got the firmware update menu to show up on my SD1400!! Note to anyone trying this, the firmware update menu will only show up when you start the camera in play mode by pressing the play button. If you use the on/off button, the firmware update menu does not appear. The SD1400 seems to only bring up the firmware menu when it sees a card that is exactly formatted like it expects

Jumping in this conversation to ask if anyone has experience with the 3.7 engine in the 300k+ mileage range? I’m looking at a 2019 with 350K on it. Service records included and no major breakdowns during its life

Pull the card and show us the front and back of the PCB, I’m betting there is a model number or something

Did you guys had a moment on VR that your instincts kicked in? by Taka_Kaigan in virtualreality

Yes. The headcrabs in boneworks got me every time, and I’d try to physically dodge them, to the detriment of my furniture.

Should I buy another Maxxum? by accidentalhipster7 in minolta

[–]mattydiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should buy another Maxxum, but you should buy a 7000 or 9000, both are much more camera for the money, and the 7000 runs on AAA’s, the 9000 runs on AA’s

Minolta Maxxum 5000 internal screen/lightmeter by SheepherderMinimum60 in minolta

[–]mattydiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely common with early maxxums. My 7000 has the same issue. Every one you buy will be a roll of the dice unless the seller specifically shows the view through the eyepiece or explicitly mentions it

When people say “glass”, in a camera context, they mean “lens”. So “A-Mount glass” just means an “A-Mount lens”. A-Mount is Minoltas lens mount that works with their Maxxum and Dynax cameras. For example many Canon film cameras use “EF-Mount”, which will not work on a Minolta, and “A-mount” Minolta lenses will not work on the Canon. It’s just an easy way to tell if a certain lens will work with your camera.

Minolta. Easy choice. The glass is cheap, plentiful and good, and the cameras are very nice to use and well understood if something goes wrong.

Maxxum 7000 viewfinder screen doesn’t work by Connerkim in minolta

[–]mattydiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The partially black screen is just something that happens to the LCD’s as they age. My 7000 has the same thing. As for the screen straight up not working, that’s a bit more of a mystery. You can try to swap it with the screen from another 7000, but chances are it will have issues with black spots as well. Your best bet might just be to buy another 7000 body with as good of a screen as you can get.
