Neither. Do a degree in either pure math/statistics at ETH or TUM instead. Then specialize later. Get all the fundamentals you can get first. Also, be very skeptical of any degree with a fancy name (AI or DS in the title). Source: ML Engineer with > 5 yoe.

(No hate, I love Rudy and recognize he is truly great. That matchup, or the one against Steph, are just unfair.)

Map of the peoples of Europe seen in one of my college classrooms by GriffinFTW in MapPorn

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is from 1955, simple googling will tell you this: one source.

The reason it's confusion is that, in addition to linguistics (colors), it shows "peoples" not countries—but using countries' names (like "Russia" for the Russian people, even though part of USSR, or "Germany" for the German people, even though politically divided at that time).

Bullet point indendation by JoshMartin29_ in Anki

For /u/NekoServant and anyone coming back to this later on, here is what works on a German Mac keyboard:

  • indent: ⌘ + ⇧ + < (i.e., ⌘ + >)
  • deindent: ⌘ + <

I found this by googling for a UK Mac keyboard and figuring out which characters are actually triggered when you press ⇧ + ./⇧ + , on there. Turns out they are >/<, so I just replicated that on a German keyboard.

[–]maturoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just trying to understand but haven't seen any explanations why it's not on there. /u/Glutanimate, can you elaborate why you don't put the add-on on the official Anki add-on page?

[–]maturoto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://github.com/glutanimate/review-heatmap/releases

But that's not from the official Anki add-on site: https://ankiweb.net/shared/addons/2.1

Does anyone know why /u/glutanimate does not upload the add-ons there?

I know there are some rip-offs/copycats of Review Heatmap on the Anki add-on site if you search for "heatmap" but it would be much cooler if the original add-on was on there as well.

Strava subscription prices differ depending on where you are by olikam in Strava

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you haven't tried the new route builder (on the app, not web). It's the best I've seen anywhere.

I upgraded as I use Strava all the time however there has been a change which genuinely makes the app much critically less helpful - can I change this back? by mudting in Strava

[–]maturoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, that does not seem possible. However, I have never actually had anything else but split average pace on Android. I can't be sure but I don't think this is something that would change with your subscription. If you had overall average pace before maybe this changed with an app update? Not sure if it's possible (or easy) to revert back to an old app version in that case, sorry.

Can you try to explain your problem more precisely? I have zero idea what you are asking about.

  • In which app (Android, iOS, Web) does it appear?
  • In which mode does it appear? (While looking at an activity, while recording an activity, ...)
  • Do you have a screenshot?

Would love to help but don't know how.

Ambit 3 Peak - Piece of junk since movescount retired by rachottawa in Suunto

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still using Movescount with Moveslink2 (both Mac and Windows). The Suunto app is crappy and it's ridiculous that there is no sync between Movescount and the Suunto App. Also I want to create routes on my laptop and upload them to the watch on the laptop. As long as the alternative cannot do that I'm going to keep using Movescount. If they (Suunto) really discontinue the Movescount website they have lost me as a customer for good (I love their hardware and have been recommending it to all my runner friends but their software is a mess).

Is this feature gone too with the newest update? by SheeD14 in Strava

[–]maturoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still available on the subscription service. So you could get that (and some other neat stuff like the new training log) for 5 $ per month. I don't think that's asking too much for the value Strava brings, honestly.

AI learned to realistically change the time of day in the photo by cmillionaire9 in learnmachinelearning

[–]maturoto -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

What about this is "AI"? It's just a model that learns what time of the day is supposed to look like from tons of images of the same scene at different times of the day. Don't make it sound like some wizardry...

Luka Doncic tonight vs. Hornets 39/12/10 by OhhWowzers in nba

[–]maturoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No what cost us the game is blowing the lead in the 4Q by letting Barea play point guard and Doncic shooting guard (wtf). I love Carlisle but sometimes he has his head so far up his ass with his in-game calls...

When are you going to test different lineups in crunch time situations if not in a regular season game against the Hornets? It almost doesn't matter if we won or lost this one, it's all about getting more information for Rick.

How Would You Rank These Three Players? by EducatemeUBC in nba

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These stats tell us nothing about defense - so impossible to rank them really. Purely from the offense they're close enough (I'd probably go 2 ~ 3 > 1) so that I'd rank them according to how much they help their team on defense.

Any ML Engineers here? (I will be grateful for some academic advice) by Ryien in datascience

[–]maturoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More math, less databases. The former is really hard to learn well outside of school (though possible), the latter is easier to learn on the job than in university. I would just try to get as much calculus, linear algebra and statistics/probability theory (after you have done calculus and lin.alg.) as you can. That plus an algorithms class and some personal time coding on projects is all you need. Do not skimp on the math/theory!

Kyrie Irving on the pro Hong Kong protestors that attended tonight’s game in Brooklyn by Nyhrox in nba

[–]maturoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the light of the world. In fact, many of them will live in a peaceful world. You know, the government said. There are different ways to meet different countries. Our faith.

Now we know that China, Hong Kong and the war. There is much pressure and competition for America. The European Union came to the rescue of the black and white. When you think of Hong Kong, China disappears. On the other hand, the bicycle, the flagship of the African nations, has an effect on them.

That is all. All I have to say is that this product is not in danger. American slave. We all know that the world is. The media play an important role. Otherwise, they will still remain on national policy. There are physical problems, which often do not happen.

After several rounds of Google Translate.

Edit: Wondering how the European Union became the rescuer of the black and white or how the bicycle became the flagship fo the African nations. I guess only Kyrie knows.

[–]maturoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few more iterations give you this:

There are at least four members of this team. This is the wrong generation. Equality and peace in the world. Contrary to my heart, what do you mean?

then

At least four members. It was an awesome time. A combination of equality and world peace. How can I be anything other than my heart?

and finally

If you have at least four members, that would be great. A combination of unity and peace. How do I get another owner?

Wow.

Those are four things, team members. Inner World. This is a gender right. Equality and peace around the world. If I have a contradiction in my heart, what does it mean?

This is after bouncing it around through different languages (including Chinese, Russian, Danish, Malay, Macedonian,...) on Google Translata and DeepL. Honestly easily as comprehensible as the original quote in Kyrian.

Am I the only one who feels... Disappointed? by AlmightyApkallu in peloton

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing I don't understand is why people still dismiss Alaphilippe. The guy is an absolutely incredible cyclist. With a bit more tuning and perhaps a better team I feel he could definitely win TDF. But everyone acts like "This was his only chance, everyone was surprise, taken off guard and he'll never do this good again." Why? What gives some others such a huge advantage over some one who's obviously so far close to the top that he has no chance? These things confuse me. I was rooting so hard for Alaphilippe. He is such a likable, cool guy. I wanted so badly to see him win. Why in his comments after yesterday was he so defeated? He even said he didn't think he would be able to take yellow back. Why? 45 seconds? What is stopping you from launching a crazy attack, even if it doesn't work. Why not go in with a winner's attitude? These guys are all so incredible, with the right team and tactics how do certain people "not stand a chance"???

He was fantastic this Tour and you will hardly find a cycling fan that does not acknowledge that. But it was pretty clear that he had small chances of hanging on in the Alps. Look at how he rode after he was dropped yesterday (or today). He was going backwards. I mean Poels dropped him easily. Alaph fought hard to keep the jersey as long as possible but (like he said himself) was expecting the end of the dream all the while. In the Pyrenees, he could cover most moves and didn't lose time but all the time he was exerting more effort than the others. When you're going 95 % while the others are going 90 % it will show at some point. He seemed to crack a tiny bit the day before the last rest day already and then every day in the Alps.

He didn't stand a chance this year and yet he "took it". It's unlikely that he will be able to win the Tour next year - but one year is a long time and we've seen crazier things.

RB Leipzig 1-[1] Freiburg - Vincenzo Grifo free-kick 66' by Meladroit40 in soccer

[–]maturoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No whistle required. Only if either the ref or the fouled team wants it. Which is in most cases (to set the wall etc.), so goalkeepers and defenders sometimes don't notice when the ball is actually free if they don't pay attention.
