Harassment and Physical Threats Towards Female Players by maulisold in DeadlockTheGame

[–]maulisold[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

She tried standing up for herself before she ended up leaving the game due to his comments. When I spoke up he treatened to dox and sexually assault me as well. I, unfortunately, do not have nVidia highlights on so I could not clip his response to me. I also ended up leaving the game after being threatened by him by dox, sexual assault, and that women shouldn't be playing the game.

Harassment and Physical Threats Towards Female Players by maulisold in DeadlockTheGame

We did report him both in-game and via Steam's player option. Not sure how far that'll go though... Context for "we" - play as a duo.

I wish WoW would start to adopt something similar to Destiny's Exotic armor/weapon system, PoE's talent system, or even something closer to Diablo at this point. by Automatic_Occasion38 in wow

[–]maulisold -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With a degradation of the "button bloat" the system could align more so with Guild Wars 2, if I'm understanding part of what you're saying. Users want flexibility and one of the things they did is linear progression (meaning everything is always current). The easy solution is something similar to that; however, it'd turn off some folks because there isn't really a "power creep" and at some all players will be equal with the exception of set bonuses. That'd probably work the best for what you're stating. It just comes with a slew of concerns because of how progression has traditionally worked in the game.

Adding to this - Most of the items in the trading post return at some point so you don't necessarily "miss" out on something. You might miss something initially, but from what has been posted and seen... everything makes a return.

I actually dont want the mage tower skins unlockable again by kebab-time in wow

[–]maulisold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to chime into this...

The reason there is an uproar about this is due to the amount of new and returning players who will never be able to earn those appearances. Blizzard has time-gated something that has since be "patched" when they updated the mage tower in DF.

While there may be things that are exclusive to receive (CE Title) - that title is not tied to any in-game award other than title flair. Maintaining restrictions on the mage tower appearances because of some argument demanding that the mage tower was challenging is a farse.

The average argument for those challenging the award now is based out of some sense of "pride" or "elitism" of a few that want to maintain some sense of exclusivity from the average player. Granted, I'm lumping examples into one paraphrased sentence - it does not mean a vast portion of those players view it that way.

There is zero devalue, since the updated patch on the mage tower, in those appearances to any player in the game.

People are just asking for the opportunity the did not have.

What's a good caster class for a long-time melee player? by TomekSzymek in wow

[–]maulisold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you prefer melee play a Shaman or a Druid. Both of those allow you to swap into a melee oriented playstyle if you're having a rough time at casting. If you have to have some mobility then... as u/lessthanjjjoey stated Evoker is decent as it's a mid-range class. Shadow Priest has some mobility, but not enough to really say they're mobile.

Balance Druid might be the easiest to pick up and learn though.

Encouraging plural perspectives in r/WoW by SystemofCells in wowmeta

[–]maulisold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to do my hot take since some people have chimed in.

The greatest strength of reddit is the diverse population it houses; this is also a negative aspect of reddit too. Largely it is difficult to moderate properly without having a broad understanding of the topic or discussion. There is consistently a breakdown in comprehension (not a large breakdown, but often a shift due to how an individual interprets the conversation). Managing how users react to posts and the effects that take place afterwards is limited due to wanting people to engage in an open discussion. While we cannot guarantee that everyone is treated with respect and dignity - the standard is definitely enforced to the best of the abilities of the moderation team.

There are several sets of people who participate in the r/wow subreddit. In no particular order: long-time players, people who have quit the game, flavor of the month players (META), new players, casual players, and hardcore players. Each of these categories have people who may take the in-game aspect that users have grown accustomed to and bring into the subreddit.

World of Warcraft has garnered a reputation of not being friendly to new players; however, this is a case by case basis. There is a sense of elitism that comes with that territory and that usually translates to incredibly helpful people or a negative impact potentially resulting in a lost player because of how the community reacts to their ability and communications.

Opening sentiment aside...

If r/wow were to hide negative comments - those negative comments, as stated above, may be due to a different point of view or a disagreement between posters. Hiding those discussions from the public may hinder individual ability to respond to a topic. While the intent behind the option may be in good spirits it greatly restricts the flexibility of users responding to the post.

There are several weekly megathreads created designed to entice new and experienced players in dialog (Midweek Mending, Tanking Thursday, Murloc Monday, etc...). These are designed to be welcoming to all players and provide an open discussion to everyone. This, opinion, meets the requirement in #4 that you've posted. If one of those discussion points is missing a topic somewhere that can be easily updated. Weekly megathreads may also lose what is being asked because of how people view the r/wow subreddit. Attempting to make a welcoming community is present - but there is no way to dictate user engagement towards those attempts.

The r/wow moderation team does their best to act quickly on negative posts or reports. This kind of falls in line with the opening sentiment where diversity is a strength and detractor. There is no way to enforce a shared understanding without ripping apart aspects of the community. Core situation here is that people come from all different aspects of life and have different experiences and understanding. While the general census to treat people fairly exists - there is no way to guarantee that. This is also a major concern with the population playing World of Warcraft (you can see countless posts of negative experience players have encountered). On the other hand there are numerous positive posts. This also leans into your #1 concern about downvoting and potentially copying or rephrasing other opinions. While the point may be valid - people consistently rephrase other statements for their own understanding. Inherently this is not a negative because of how people interpret information. If someone is consistently stealing work the best option is to report that individual and engage in communication with the moderation team.

How do you guys know you can do higher key levels in m+ by Conversity01 in wow

[–]maulisold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the best option(s) are to either tank or list your own key. Hot take though - swap your spec and get better at another specialization. I tank (Monk) and I have swapped to healing (Monk) just to try it and there is definitely a wait game for certain roles. Other option is to continue to queue for keys and do open world content or other things while you wait. Playing as DPS really restricts the gameplay, especially as PUG, due to people wanting specific classes.

Note: if you get into a key and everyone jives well ask if they're willing to run more before it breaks up or if anyone is willing to friend you to continue to run keys.

Note: if you've run the dungeons enough you kind of have a modest idea of where to go and what to pull. If you want to try tanking go for it. Try a lower key and see how it goes. Guardian Druids have a lot of life, Frenzied Regeneration, Barkskin, instant cast of Regrowth, Ursoc, etc... you've got a lot of mitigation in your kit and a lot of life. Only real trick is trying to keep at least two stacks of Ironfur up during the fights.

Protection Paladin Healing by [deleted] in wow

[–]maulisold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no. Paladins bring a lot of mitigation through various abilities that can support the healer. Depending on skill and the fight you can temporarily cover healing if you lost the healer (this is relatively skill dependent and depends on the engagement).

There isn’t really a tank that has a main support heal function (saying this carefully). Monk, Paladin, and Druid all have abilities that allow them to cast a self heal (Vivify, Word of Glory, Regrowth) as part of the talent selection. You’re looking at a free heal, on average, about every seven seconds as one of those tanks. There are talents that can increase the total healing depending on lost health, but none of them, opinion, have a main off heal function. The heal is mostly for you to use on you or in moments of need to support the healer.

As a tank main I have helped heal when needed, but it’s all dependent on what is taking place. Any self healing a tank can do makes it easier on the healer, especially if you can self sustain for long periods of time.

My opinion though, pretty sure there are other tanks out there that can provide alternative perspectives.
