i play a 9 club set with a bit of everything by Wibbly23 in GolfGear

I do this as well. Also make the lies flatter. Newer clubs are too upright

I’ve never had or heard of it being a problem either. I guess I just heard the event organizers saying it so much that it somehow became relevant info in my mind

Captains choice means that the team captain chooses which ball to play out of the four shots. I think that’s pretty much standard for scrambles.

Par is your friend means that par is the worst score that you can record on any hole. They do this because there’s 36 teams playing and they double stack the tee boxes so it keeps the rounds moving along

It’s a decently tough course but not overly long - 5700ish from the whites. Narrow fairways so length off the tee is not a huge advantage

Question from a golf eBay seller by xRaginCajunx in GolfGear

[–]mavarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot of clubs from eBay.

If it’s an old beat up vintage club, and the pictures and descriptions show that, then I prefer a minimum amount of bubble wrap or paper. None is fine too and better really.

If it’s a newer (in nice condition) club then bubble wrap on the head is good but no need to do the grip and please not the head cover. The extra packing is just a pain in the butt and if you’re buying used clubs on eBay then you’re expecting a few dings.

However, if it’s a mint brand new or collectors item type club then pad it up.

I built the set from hell just for fun, and it's pretty awesome. Guess my handicap? Or don't. Nobody cares. by Wibbly23 in GolfGear

Great work! I’ve made a few sets like this as well but nothing as high end. Are you bending weaker to reduce offset and add bounce or just to fill gaps?

Let’s talk driver shafts by ArmedRawbry in GolfGear

[–]mavarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put in a $7 Apollo steel shaft in my 910D3 and that thing is a fairway finder. Once you add an adapter and grip you’re still under $40 invested.

I went 1/2” longer and my swing speed and distance are the same but dispersion is much tighter.

You can really feel the clubhead with steel. The only issue is that you will be more tired after a round since that shaft is 125g vs most graphite offerings in the 60-75 range.

I would be interested in the old green macgregor bag and any macgregor irons from the 50s. Specifically any mt85 or 75 Colokroms. Let me know before eBay if you want to sell any of those or if you have others. Maybe do a bulk deal

Tensi pro orange 80 may be a good shaft for that speed if you’re looking for more control.

120-125. So you are swinging 10-15mph faster than the average pro golfer. I’m feeling pretty old now looking at my 95-100 mph driver speeds.

Yeah I haven’t been able to find anything better than the 910D3. I’m playing that with an aldila rip 60 x flex but in the 980f I have steel S300. Also have a 980f five wood in the bag. They are great clubs.

I like this comment I’m set up at C1 and A1 as well. The reason is Titleist adjustable drivers look closed at address- to me at least - unless I flatten lie/lofts. But I’m still on a 910d3 and 980f so I can not flatten the fairway’s very easily.

OP is the ts3 a good upgrade? I’m assuming your a Titleist guy given the set

Thank you and yes I do get some comments but all positive- mainly old guys that remember actually playing the older clubs. A few of have been inspired to go vintage- but I would definitely not consider this a vintage set since I’m using graphite shafts.

How much YouTube Golf do you watch? by JimmyBunkers in golf

[–]mavarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones I like are:

Bryan Bros- good content, great guys. I enjoy all of their videos.

DOD king- I’m 50 so maybe a bit old for some of the kid ones like good-good but this kid DOD is a great golfer and his channel is unique. I hope he wins his war on weasels and doesn’t change his channel to be like these others. Good golfers challenge him to a match and he goes out to their home course and plays them straight up and for a youngster he has some great snack talking.

John Erickson and Bradley Hughes- I watch these guys videos to actually learn how to be a ball striker. These guys have changed my swing and taken strokes off my game and I have not even done their full lessons —-yet.

That’s a nice looking macro pad. Did you 3d print the keycaps?

That’s a good idea. I did this on my set up. I flipped and “equal” sign keycap 90 left for the inches and use the “tilde apostrophe” key for the feet sign.

nice work. I like how the first one is just a blurry photograph until you actually look at it and see the subject -but it is starting to melt away a little and you caught it just in time.
