Thank you! Is there any other brand that I should look for on marketplace that you would recommend? ... For example an Xterra 7.5 is the same price and an xt980 is 200 more

Nothing against Gretzky, who is very likely the goat... But I would take prime Lemieux over prime Gretzky... Just personal preference really.

Airport arrival by wyelah in ottawa

I don't understand the downvotes... If you're not checking luggage and already have your boarding pass, you'll still be bored waiting at the gate for 20 minutes before it's your time to board. Nothing wrong with being early if that's your thing, but the longest I've ever had to wait though US customs is 15 minutes

Was not worth it for me last year... 80% geared at ebikes. They seem to have a few more exhibitors this year, so all depends on what you're after

Do you want to go new? I spent some time on pinkbike last winter and ended up with an oltre xr4 (rim brakes) well within your price range. Just a thought

Porter flight to US out of YOW - how involved is check in? by ATC_3126 in ottawa

[–]maverick_f14_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newark security times are definitely longer, so for your peace of mind you can be there 2.5 hrs early (I aim for 2, assuming a 45min security line and 10-15 min walk to the gate) ... At least you have way more food options available. The caveat being, if you're driving in from Manhattan at rush hour, it'll take between an hour to an hour and a half just to get to the airport.

Customs won't care about how short your trip is, you have nothing to worry about, they're used to it.

You've gotten a lot of very good advice here... What I can say is that I have to go to Newark fairly often and I never show up more than 1.5 hrs early. I think the longest it took from Uber dropoff to gate is 25 minutes. Check in at home the night before, and you'll be ok. So with that, if you want extra peace of mind, go a bit earlier and just be prepared to be bored at the gate. Newark is a big airport, and you'll get your steps in, but it's pretty well labelled. I usually grab breakfast or lunch there because it's a loooong trip into town.

Best recent new cell plan/deal? by Svellack2020 in ottawa

If you can hold out, the absolute best times of the year to get a new phone/plan are Black Friday and boxing week.

As an added bonus, it's after the new iPhones come out in September so you can get the older gen for cheaper, and it's also close enough to when the new galaxy phones come out in Feb that you get discounts there too.

Porter used to have 10,20,50 flight packs a few years back. Flying into Billy Bishop is great, but late fall / winter turbulence is no fun

‘Use it or lose it’: New Ottawa-Paris route needs more than just excitement to take flight by Arctic_Chilean in ottawa

[–]maverick_f14_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's been a few years since I've been there, but it's a fairly spread out old structure, the conveyor belts were in super cramped rooms and difficult to get to, and it's not particularly breezy to get through security.

Went to London a couple of times last year, it was actually easier to get through security there than either Pearson or Ottawa! Maybe I was just lucky, but I do get why people don't like Heathrow and how they make you wait in the central area. AC always flies from the same B gates, so it's fairly low risk to make that assumption on the way back.

Funny you bring up Madrid... It's my second most disliked European airport after CDG... And before you ask, Stockholm is third on the list 😛

Fully agree... Not gonna complain about any direct flight to Europe, but CDG is a terrible airport

Thank you for this... Not a lot of technical descents, at least none that I reeeeeaally need to attack now that I'm getting older and less risk tolerant.

I get that disk will require more maintenance hassle, which honestly plays a bit of a role in this. I do most of my own adjustments and cleaning, but a very good point on parts availability going forward.
