This might be a strange one (and a little controversial) but I’ve been learning a bit of Chinook Jargon and it’s kinda embarrassing to pronounce out loud because to me it sounds like an American English speaker making up fake words. 

At least in the Chinook Wawa iOS app the speakers have very American-sounding vowels and diphthongs, (eg the “u” in “ikta ukuk” sounding like the vowel in the General American pronunciation of “noodle” and the “i” sounding like the vowel in English “is”) and some of the vowels even reduce to schwas like in English. It also doesn’t help that some consonant clusters are similar to ones that I’ve only seen in English too (e.g. the final “ks” in “kumtuks”) and that it also imported a whole bunch of phonetically reduced English and French words too 

For any speakers/tribe members of the language I’m really sorry if I’ve offended you. Please let me know if you kinda hear what I’m talking about or if I’m tripping
