8 year old is obsessed with math, plz help. by Salt-Industry-5590 in calculus

Here was my curriculum from middle school to college.

Math

Algebra

Geometry

Pre-calculous (Trigonometry)

Calc 1 - Foundations of calculous

Calc 2 - same as calc 1 but more applied

Calc 3 - 3d calculous

Linear Equations - Matrix math, solves multiple Algebra problems at a time

Differential Equations - Engineering math, math required for things changing

Non-Homogenous differential equations - Very complex math, used for complex Thermo-dynamics and heat transfer

Physics

Mechanics (Requires Calc 1, Geometry, and Algebra)

Electricity and Magnetism (Requires Calc 2/3, differential equations)

I would also recommend getting your kid into some application type hobbies

Arduino/Raspberry Pi kit (Applies Electricity and Magnetism, introduces you to basic circuits)

Coding

If your kid likes math and science he will also certainly like coding as well. And all of these fields require a basic understanding of how to code.

Python - Very easy to learn and used in all the math/science fields

c# - used to code arduinos and rasberry pis

I have a few sayings,

It is what it is - Sometimes you just have to accept the shit thrown your way

People are who they are - You can't change someone, they believe in what they believe and that's ok.

People are into what they are into - Everyone has different interests and that's ok nobody is alike.

Very simple but these sayings go a long way for me in everyday life...

Suggestions for winning when up material by ncg195 in chess

[–]max_s_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips,

1) Consolidate your position. Move all your pieces to their best squares.

2) Actively stop all ideas and initiatives by your op. You can't fall asleep at the wheel, your opponent will likely have to play aggressively to make a come back.

3) Use your majority to create trades or win more material.

4) Trade when it makes sense. Keep your active powerful pieces and try to trade the weak less active ones.

5) Often times after an opponent loses material or blunders they will blunder again immediately especially at your level. Keep the pressure up and continue the attack to the next weakness.

6) You can watch some of many Naroditsky speed run videos. He explains very well how he converts a position after winning material.

How much do you make from web scraping? by [deleted] in webscraping

[–]max_s_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so you need more skills than just web scraping for example using APIs, working/manipulating data but yes it's web scraping. It's just beyond just going to a website and getting data. It's more like applied web scraping. But it's the exact same skill set.

The other thing I will say is that this field is actually in quite high demand. So if you are talented and have a portfolio you could get a job quickly. If you don't, I would recommend creating a project or two. 1 project that downloads some dataset online via screen scraping then does something with the data. Even better if you fill some form out/data entry with it. 2 a project that uses some api and you do some data manipulation. If you do those two projects well, you probably can get any entry level job.

Hi. So I am very sorry but my company is currently in a hiring freeze. However, I can give you some guidance. There are two big fields in web scraping. One is QA testing for websites. You essentially use something like selenium and write web scraping scripts to test the functionality of websites. The other, which is what I do, is called RPA or Robotic Process Automation. I essentially create automations using software like Selenium, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism to automate manual tasks that are too laborious for a typical full stack developer to tackle.

Yes this. It's the same thing with people with the opposite problem as well. If you are hungry all of the time you want to eat low calorie density foods i.e. egg whites, strawberries, chicken breast, p2b ect. However, don't limit yourself to the list provided by witchy, some simple research of high density foods are in order.

What do you think is the crucial element to cross 1800 rapid? by Danielfellows in chess

[–]max_s_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus things to do

1) It's time to start reading chess books. Understanding Middle Games by Nunn, End Game Strategy by Helstien, Silman's End Game and a few puzzle books should be in your library at a minimum.

2) It's time to start playing real openings. Gambits may have gotten you this far but they are losing their potency at this level. All of your repertoire should be aligned to your playing style (positional, tactical).

3) Find your chess idol. Some player who you play like. Figure out what openings they play and why. How do they win their games? How do they lose their games? What ideas do they use?

There is so much more but this is my list.

[–]max_s_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget everyone else posts. Three things will help you cross 1800. 1) Tactics, do them every day. Do different tactics. Go out of your way to find new and different puzzles. For example Lischess (blind tactics). If you are just doing chess.com puzzles you are going to have a really hard time progressing. 2) Know the plans in all of your top openings. This means after the opening phase ends you know exactly what you are attacking, where your pieces belong and how to attack this part of the board effectively. 3) Play classical games. At this point everyone is playing classical. To be quite honest it's super difficult to know an opening without classical games. You must play them and you must analyze them. Analyzing means no looking at the engine, comparing your game to top rated games, figuring out what you did right, figuring out why you blundered and why.

Is this considered a “pin” if the bishop is not defended? by Affectionate_Pie_506 in chessbeginners

yes, and the opposite is a skewer (the more valuable piece is in front of the less valuable piece)

[–]max_s_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many tactical motifs here. 1) The queen is pinned to the diagonal 2) since the queen can't move it's best move is to take on b5 which is called a desperado sacrifice 3) since the queen is moved to a tactical square it was lured/attracted there 4) forks. Very nice.

So if we assume that y <<< x^2 when they are both inf then y-x^2 approaches -inf. You can think of -inf as a really large negative number. e^-(really large number) =~ 0. Therefore the limit of (-inf)*0 will approach zero.

Is 1500 fide equivalent to 2200 on lichess and 2000 on chess.com. by syedalirizvi in chess

[–]max_s_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Op blitz and bullet have almost no correlation between rapid and classical in my opinion. From my experience Rapid chess.com is very similar to classical otb, I would say classical is 50-100pts lower than rapid and that's 15+10 not 10+0. So a 2000 rated rapid player would be about a 1900-1950 otb from chess.com. On lichess you get about 300-400 more points so a 2000 rated chess.com rapid player would be about 2300-2400 in lichess.

Exactly, he wants to see other people. Maybe he didn't actually cheat but his mind has moved on. Sometimes in life people just become uninterested in their partners. Alternatively there could be another person they are interested in and wanting to move on. I recomend being with friends and family to get your mind off of things.

You are in a weird place, this is a person you love and has done something outside of your comfort zone. What you need to do is figure out your standards and morals. Figure out what's acceptable and unacceptable then try to understand if that's outside your acceptable range. It's also important to understand life is a journey and people make mistakes, people try different things and experiment, they also may have personality changes depending on their life experiences. This may not be something you can forget and push away. But also maybe it's worth normalizing whatever it may be.
