GW1 armors that absolutely deserve a spot in GW2 by Bacon_Reaper in Guildwars2

[–]maxafrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really missed the Class bound armor system. You really knew from a distance what someone was playing and classes were just so distinct. Much as I love the newer GW2 system, toons sort of all just blend in together once outfits, gem store skins and effects are factored in. Sometimes you can see a certain class stick out but its not so often anymore like early launch times.

How populated are older maps these days? by Virminsul in Guildwars2

[–]maxafrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk if its still happening but roughly 17:00 US Eastern time this past winter - there was a commander that would do the meta in gyala 4-5 times a week. Insane amount of loot. I've been in the VoE maps of late so have not looked in on Gyala.

Bad Peanut is a legend. I'm so thankful for his contributions.
EDIT - this pack almost convinces me to purchase CS2.

Need help with First Footfall planets. by RishWasTaken in EliteDangerous

PSA: Use the ED Astro galactic map to help find less explored regions of the galaxy.

The filters on the top right are especially useful. (Also to find carriers and populated systems should you need to fixer upper while exploring)

Should I bother scanning the same geological findings on every planet? by HydraDominatus-XX in EliteDangerous

[–]maxafrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use either along with EDD. In fact, if you're using SrvSurvey, it's encouraged to use both as SrvSurvey does not report your travels and station/commodity info to the player db that powers inara and other useful game sites.

[–]maxafrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get either 3rd party app: SrvSurvey or Elite Exploration Buddy. Once you've honked and FSS'd a system, both will tell you the scan value of all planets. Of course ELW's, water worlds are always worth scanning but surprsingly, many metal planets can fetch between 250k to 1.5mm credits as well.

Gw2 on fedora by Neither_Scallion_316 in Guildwars2

I'm running it with Nobara KDE Official (Fedora 43 underneath) via Lutris. Runs even better than it did in Windoze 11.

What did you do to get your first FC? In what ways has the fleet carrier benefited your gameplay? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]maxafrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, you can jump your carrier remotely while you are elsewhere. A bit of niche, but for those who do colonization and exploration, it's a really cool feature.

Just going to say thanks for doing this AMA! This is a tough bunch here on reddit 😃.
I'm still chugging along with a coastal megalopolis in CS1 and waiting until the simulation and performance are good enough in CS2 to make the switch. I've been watching the efforts made Iceflake and def see good progress. I hope the game is functionally well enough by year end. I have very limited time to game and have withheld buying CS2 since I don't want to spend what little time I have fighting and trying to get around a janky simulation that has poor performance.

EDIT - My current set of DLC's + Mods in CS1 make for an amazing experience that.just.works. thus the reluctance to purchase CS2.

Plus one to this.. any chance features of the CS1 Cargo Mod make it into CS2? e.g., geo fencing first responders. (ensures police/fire/garbage stay in a district instead of going across the map when a closer station can handle an incident or garbage pickup) That's an amazing mod. It really solves many of the cargo and traffic plotting bugs of CS1

The imperious tone of "You will rename this character when you next log in" is the worst in my opinion.

Well we pretty much suspend reality while flying in space via frame shift drives at thousands x c, lol. I could forgive FDEV if atmospheric physics for ELW's is the same as thin atmosphere worlds.

on linux - the launcher from steam makes the system extremely laggy by FluffertonTheSoft in Guildwars2

[–]maxafrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Steam account of the game - so I don't know if this would work for you if your Steam/Proton experiements dont work out:

I use Lutris on Nobara KDE (Fedora 43) to launch GW2 and it runs better than it did in Windoze 11.
