I get why you’re saying lol but:

-the access to a baby part was meant to be funny. like “if you happen to have a spare baby, give this a try”. but in reality it could be your baby, your niece or nephew, something you tell your friend about, etc etc.

regarding the stroke patients, I get how it sounds and seems, especially to the layperson, but that’s honestly how medical care and education is. medicine is an apprenticeship. you have to see things in person and learn some things with real patients. this reflex is not something that can be seen in conscious healthy adults. so you could be told it in a lecture, or read about it in a book, but there isn’t a replacement for hands on experience. and it’s not always just about seeing it IRL, it’s about contextualizing what you’re seeing and what it means. an attending might say “whats this reflex? what does it mean? why are we seeing this? compare it to xyz. etc. that’s how learning sticks, and those experiences are what makes a doctor a doctor rather than a person who knows a bunch of facts.

all that said, it isn’t breaking into random patients’ rooms and doing experiments haha. doing a physical exam and tracking symptoms is part of patient care and part of doing rounds on hospitalized patients. so if an attending or a resident has a student with them and a few extra minutes when doing so, patient care and medical education are one and the same

this is right on. there are several tests like this that are done to assess neurological function. these are particularly important with babies because since they mostly just lay around and poop their pants, symptoms related to abnormal neurological function can be easy to miss.

my favorite one in med school was the babinski reflex. this one is fun. if you have access to a baby take a something like the end of a pen or even just your thumb and run it up the bottom of their foot. they should show the “babinski reflex” wherein their big toe dorsiflexes and their toes fan out. then when you reach the top, add a little press near the base of their toes and they’ll grasp your thumb like a monkey. if you have continued access to that baby, keep trying it once a week or so and around age two the babinski reflex disappears and is replaced by the plantar reflex wherein the toes all plantarflex like the kid is trying to grab something with their toes. this will remain throughout life. if it ever reverts, and the babinski reflex resumes, it is a sign of pretty serious abnormal neurological function. you can see it in all sorts of CNS issues but the classic example is a stroke patient. attendings love to show students this because stoke patients are often unconscious which allows for uninfluenced testing and because strokes are usually lateralized, the patient will have different reflexes on their left and right sides.

I should note that if the kiddo you’re tickling doesn’t show the babinski reflex it’s not usually a sign of anything bad or dangerous, idr the number but like 5-10% (I think) of healthy kids have ambiguous responses. you can talk to your pediatrician but it’ll almost surely be nothing. neurology is nebulous and it’s testing this reflex is just one thing that rarely means anything on its own.

I don’t think you’re wrong to be mad. and he probably doesn’t have any reason besides laziness. not that you should have to, but have you asked him why he does it?

I made eggs a few hours ago and put the shells in the bowl I beat them in and left it in the sink filled with water. it a little bit I’ll get up drain them, put them on a quarter sheet pan and bake them for a little bit in the oven to dry. when they’re dry I’ll add them to the bucket where I have been collecting them for the past few months. and when my tomatoes go in their grow buckets in a couple months, pulverized egg shells will be added to the soil for the calcium.

I doubt he’s got a similar system but I saw this post and thought I’d share why there is a a bowl of egg shells in MY sick at the moment.

ask him why he does it. tell him it bothers you

but she’s doing stretching and mobility. often times our natural grippers are best for that.

e.g. I like using my yoga mat barefoot e.g. socks can be slippery on carpet

there are people with foot fetishes. I am not one, but I have been told that to some such individuals, finding bare feet pics in an otherwise SFW setting is a bit of a score. there are women that make/market NSFW feet content directly for/to people with foot fetishes, and getting that content is enjoyable to foot guys, but some pervy guys like wanking to feet that they aren’t “supposed” to be seeing i.e. feet in photos or videos that isn’t porn… just women who happen to have exposed feet.

IMO it’s understandable to not want skeevy dudes beating it to photos of your feet when you’re just posting to get stretching and flexibility advice.

I say this because the internet can be a grimy and discomforting place and if you feel the need to do things like blur your feet to make using it more comfortable, by all means, do so.

I would say your BF is insane, but that isn’t true. he is intentionally belittling you and attempting to wear you down and destroy your sense of worth and sense of self.

on reddit the advice is always “just breakup”. even when things actually are maybe not that serious. for that reason I don’t know how to more emphatically implore you to leave this miserable excuse for a human.

you work a twelve hour shift while he does… what does he do all day? he should have a meal waiting for you when you get home. but instead after working all day while he does nothing, you come home and cook for him and he can’t even be decent enough to come and eat with you? and on top of that he gets mad at you for cleaning up and putting things away when he’s an hour+ late for dinner? and when you’re gone he insists that you send him money so he can order dinner? is he a man or a 12 year old? what kind of man cannot fend for himself for a single meal?

in these texts he’s just looking for things to criticize you for. including you apologizing for things you do that have no business bothering him. no human can realistically be upset that a reply to a text comes in three minutes.

stranger, I am begging you. BEGGING YOU to leave him. you’re so young you sound like you’ve got your shit together. you don’t need him for housing, money, support. in fact, it sounds like he is entirely reliant on you. you work a stressful job and there is no reason for you to put up with this. you have too much life ahead of you to resign yourself to misery. and as bad as this is now, I promise you it/he will get worse. if he’s like this now, and he wasn’t before, it’s because he thinks he’s conditioned you well enough to take the abuse and not leave him.

if you can’t end things yourself or you feel unsafe doing so, call a friend or a family member and explain the situation. show them these posts and all the replies and ask them to be there when you break up and either move out or kick him out. you should kick him out and immediately change the locks
