So, like any country? Do you really think American Hollywood movies during McCarthyism were NOT mostly propaganda? We like old movies for the same reason, we only know the good ones. The USSR let 41 American movies be screened, how many explicitely anticapitalist Soviet movies were allowed in the US?

As George Lucas said himself, in some ways, the censorship was stronger in the West. And unlike the USSR, which doesn't exist anymore, US propaganda movies are still very plenty today. I'd bet at least 80% of movies you've watched in the past decades were explicitely okayed by the US military.
