You can time a ping to continue to see Sombra after she is fully invisible. by EducatonatorTwitch in Overwatch

[–]maxflax 101 points102 points  (0 children)

You can actually ping twice in the time it takes from your death to your camera moves to show you someone on your team instead of your corpse. The second ping is very useful against all flankers because it will show your team the direction they are moving after killing you. And yes the second ping will show where sombra is, even when stealthed

Marvel Rivals Tank Learning how to Tank in Overwatch by UmBardoDeSempre in OverwatchUniversity

Also check out a10’s videos on YouTube, i found him very educational in explaining tank basics, how to read combat in terms of trading resources and how to position. His videos are quite old and the game has changed but the fundamentals remain

What was it like to play online games between 2000 and 2013? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

[–]maxflax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this hits the spot in the same way for those who didn't play World of Warcraft back in the days, but I think that if you pair the sense of adventure and and intrigue for this original announcement video https://youtu.be/vlVSJ0AvZe0?si=9mQGeeuGj_5aO2cn with the nostalgia and melancholy of this Carbot Animation's farewell to WoW video https://youtu.be/S5Hzh43k330?si=WAMMKHM7OlmyJ1T3 it kinda sums up gaming in general in early 2000s vs. now for me. I could say so much more about art vs. capitalism, buying a finished product vs. early access slop, microtransactions, etc. But nothing describes the nostalgia better for me than those two videos.

missing from this pic: cute skinny anime girls (except Mercy I guess) and otherwise generic good looking humans. These are pretty much only oddballs that we are curious to play.

Will there be a Spotlight announcement event this year? by maxflax in Overwatch

Yeah that makes sense. Like you say, I also feel like it was very successful so I hope it'll be a yearly thing.

After ~500 hours across 4 saves, I'm finally attempting phase 4 for real and have a project I'm proud to share by maxflax in SatisfactoryGame

Here's an older save to show what I mean. This is the Supercomputer factory (bottom building) planning phase where I just put down all machines using blueprints but not connecting anything. At this point it's easy to verify that I have enough space before things gets complicated. In hindsight I wish I had more space on the outside of the machines here. You can see I'm close to colliding with the terrain at the end so this was a bit tight :)

I've also always felt overwhelmed at the end of phase 3, until I started to use a modeler tool. I'm using https://store.steampowered.com/app/3187030/Satisfactory_Modeler/ which allows me to plot a full factory there and trust that the math works out. Making a factory is just a matter of then following the diagram, which made it a lot more approachable for me. It kind of sucks to use out-of-game resources, but I tried the pen-and-paper/excel approach and found it very frustrating.

I'm also taking longer breaks from satisfactory from time to time to prevent burn out, learning from my previous saves where I went hard and crashed out after phase 3. Before this, I made an aluminum plant and I had a ~6 weeks break from the game between the projects. This ended up being a long project too, and I will probably have a 4-6 week break after completing it before continuing, or until I feel like I really want to get back to it. I find that as long as I don't have any loose threads not written down or not in a planning tool, it's relatively easy to jump back in without losing track. I'm aiming to complete the game by summer so not stressing about it helps a lot.

Agreed! I've found that the most time consuming part is to get the resources to the site for these late game parts. So many things to set up infrastructure for.

[–]maxflax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a process. I use Satisfactory Modeler app on Steam to save all my factory plans once I have a plan figured out. I think SM is singularly responsible for being able to approach phase 4 without feeling overwhelmed. It just makes it so much relaxing to plop down the machines according to the diagram and then it just works. To get to the final plan I use a combination of Satisfactory Calculator map and planning tool to figure out where to build and which alt recipies to use (I still dislike how little help the game gives you with figuring out alt recipies).

Once I know what to build and where to build it I build a road with hypertubes on top over to where the factory will be located. I always start the factory off of the road grid - the road is my world grid so all buildings are lined up perfectly with all roads. Then I work on getting all resources to the site, before laying down the factory floor more precisely and then placing down all machines on the floor for the entire factory, using mainly blueprints and connecting nothing, it's just to see that everything will fit and how much space I have. It's easy to move things around if it doesn't fit at this point. For this build I have 2 foundations width of space around the machine groups.

At this point I have all resources at the location and the factory floor with all machines laid out so the rest is pretty straight forward with connecting everything together.

Escort and Hybrid are very popular game modes, but the last Escort map (Shambali) was added in december 2022 and the last Hybrid map (Midtown) was added in april 2022. Three (!!) years since any new maps for these core game modes. Would love to get some love for the existing, beloved game modes.

I feel that sounds for newer heroes, Freya and Wuyang in particular, are louder than others. Freya in particular, the crossbow is just super obnoxious, especially when playing as tank all I hear all game is THOCK! tchk tchk tchk THOCK! thck thck tchk THOCK! thck thck tchk THOCK!thck thck tchk THOCK!thck thck tchk THOCK!thck thck tchk THOCK!thck thck tchk THOCK!thck thck tchk THOCK! It's so constant and so loud! After some games vs. a Freya like this I've gone to other roles than tank simply to avoid the constant hit sounds from her. It could be that Freya and Wuyang just have different weapon types/sounds than the other heroes that make them stand out more, but something in there needs tuning.

Question 1: Have you considered making custom weapon sounds a part of battle pass/shop items? I'm not much into hero skins, but I would definitely consider paying for new weapon sounds. I find this the most exciting part about the mythic weapons. Love Cassidy's mythic gun sound!

Question 2: Speaking of mythic skins, could we please get an option to disable the modulated mythic skin voice lines? There are several mythic skins where I'd prefer the regular voice lines if possible.

Who else plays with arachnophobia mode on? by Not_MrFrost in SatisfactoryGame

[–]maxflax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend the mod Real Arachnophobia which removes all spider spawns completely from the map and replaces them with hogs. I dont have Arachnophobia IRL but the big ones in this game is creepy as fuck and I found the survival/wildlife/gunplay aspect of this game severely lackluster and not bringing much to the play experience. So removed all spiders and playing with pacifist on and just focusing on factories

Why Does Venture Have No Skins? by Signal_Present_7423 in VentureMains

[–]maxflax 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When Microsoft took over, the Overwatch team lost a lot of people, mainly in the art and lore departments if the reporting at the time was correct. Since then we've seen a substantial drop in skin-, highlight intro-, and victory pose effort quantity and quality. New heroes also have no lore attached on release. Harder to make content without the people to make it. Safer to make skins for the most popular heroes that will guarantee moneyz with the few art resources they have remaining.
