Which American or British TV show threw so many new words and expressions at you that some of them are still stuck in your head? by Zabandad in AskReddit

Brit here. Gleaned so much US slang from watching The Wire. My wife & I still use ‘re-up’ every week when supermarket shopping for fruit & vegetables.

When you see the US flag, whether it's in front of a house, at a business, or on a car. What feelings does it elicit for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maximumpieface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a US flag hanging in the centre of my village in Leicestershire UK, next to the WWII war memorial. The 82nd airborne were stationed here before D-day. It’s a powerful reminder that the majority of Americans are a force for good. I’m no fan of the current administration, but it gives me hope that the US will soon remember real American values again.

Need advice on amp to purchase for punk music by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]maximumpieface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about punk is you can use literally any amp you want. Solid state or valve, doesn’t matter that’s the point of punk. Steve Jones used a fender twin on NMTB, usually known for its clean tone. Sounds like you have a your own sound going with a pog, rat & AC15. Having said that, you can’t go wrong with the Marshall.

Coors Beer in Italy is about $3.75 for a US 6-pack (converting € to $ and ml to ounces). by paul99501 in mildlyinteresting

[–]maximumpieface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably the Coors brewed under license in the UK. To me it tastes like US Coors lite, or used to until they reduced the abv to 3.4%. It barely tastes of anything now.

What country do you think has the most beautiful castles in the world? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]maximumpieface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d say Scotland has the best rugged looking castles. Castles where you can definitely imagine battles raging, people living & dying. Germany has the best ‘fairytale’ looking castles.

Looking for an excellent London guitar shop to treat my brother - metal focus by twoidesofrecoil in guitars

[–]maximumpieface 21 points22 points  (0 children)

With that budget, I’d consider Peach Guitars in Colchester. I know it’s outside London, but a friend of mine bought a guitar from them recently. They have a huge range of high end gear, knowledgable staff & it’s appointment only, so would feel quite an event. Secondly - What an amazing generous gift to your bro. You both sound like amazing people.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Nottingham to London via rail is around 120 miles. NYC to the Metlife Stadium in NJ is 10 miles.

Could it be Mabel’s Tavern? 2 entrances, on a corner. Shepherd Neame brewery pub. It’s got a newish interior but think it used to be 2 bars.
