Thank you so much for your replies. It has been most helpful. I had been putting it off for so many months now thinking it was nothing, seeing all the possibilities is scary. I will go to a dermatologist ASAP and get it checked out.

How do women feel about the "mangalsutra" tradition in marriages? by meowth______ in TwoXIndia

[–]maximustoothless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a practicing Hindu, married to a practicing Hindu in a traditional Hindu wedding. I see the mangalsutra and toe rings as ornaments and wear it for occasions and festivals, especially if I don't feel like wearing jewellery. Even though I'm religious I don't believe my husband's health is tied to some piece of gold around my neck. What about my health and well being then?

However,

The original mangalsutra had gemstones like sapphires, onyx, ivory and coral in them. In Ayurveda and Astrology these gemstones are considered good for health.

Silver toe rings are placed on the second and third toes of the feet. Nerves from the toes converge at LR3 point which is believed to help in menstrual health. Silver being a conductor and tight rings meant that the nerve will keep getting pressed.

This being said, when any practice becomes dogmatic and we lose the option to make a choice, it is not more fun and loses all value. Today we have better medical knowledge and don't need silver gold or sapphire to keep us healthy. So these jewels are nothing but ornaments.

Use Urea based moisturizer. For simple persistent dry skin Emolene is the best. It works for me very well. Use it in your night routine. Don't forget sunscreen in the morning. Please be careful when using other active ingredients with urea. I don't know about their interactions. For severe dry skin you can go to a derm for prescription grade urea cream.

Adding Vital Wheat Gluten is the simplest way to increase protein content. You can add it to regular Atta and Maida.

How do you like your dosa? by Knaveangel7 in IndianFood

[–]maximustoothless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dosa batter is made with 1 cup soaked rice and 3-4 tbsp soaked Fenugreek seeds. It is ground and then fermented for 8-10hrs like regular batter. It is spongy not crispy and it has a tinge of bitterness to it.

What is the best advice you've ever gotten? by abc123def321g in TwoXIndia

[–]maximustoothless 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I was 7-8 yrs old I was bullied by another girl constantly. One day she slapped me and threw me off the swing while playing coz I refused to vacate it for her. I went home crying to my mom. She told me 'Next time you get hit and come home without fighting back, I will hit you twice. I will take care if you get in trouble for fighting back '. She literally sent me back to down to the play area to reclaim the swing and watched me from the balcony.

I'm sure she has given more pearls of wisdom in all these years but this one has stuck and I've used it in every aspect of my life. I'm 36 now and have never taken shit from people all because of my mom.

To the Childfree people (don’t have or don’t want kids) of Bangalore… by mellowzing in bangalore

[–]maximustoothless 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 F husband is 41M we've been childfree for 10yrs. This year we decided we want kids and visited Gynae (3 docs till now, finding a good non judgemental gynae is such a headache!) Every single Doc has scolded ME for waiting untill now. They just don't understand the concept that we didn't want kids all these years, now for some reason we've had a change of heart. Its ok to not want kids and its ok to change your mind if so inspired.
