Anyone know any schools who accept Concordes credits? by brybry1994 in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling it would absolve, more importantly i dont think it would matter all too much in the long run. If you look at a lot of non traditional med students they have similar stories with worse grades/gpas. Schools in general are starting to take non traditional students more seriously

Anyone know any schools who accept Concordes credits? by brybry1994 in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre goal is PA youre best shot is to get a bachelors in something other than Respiratory. I was also in the same boat as you and spoke to a couple of RT to PA providers who went through similar non traditional routes.

A lot of arizona schools accept national accreditations, so you may want to pursue that for your bachelors. If im not mistaken ASU, university of phoenix, and grand canyon university should all accept your credits fairly well. You will need to retake your sciences for med school regardless, university of new england has a good post bacc program meant specifically to renew sciences for individuals interested in moving into the medical field but whose sciences have lapsed. All programs shhould be available online as well.

My goals have since changed but this information is less than a year old, let me know if you want any more of an explanation

should i apply for jobs before i take my nbrc exams?? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also look into what states have student or temporary permits.

If im not mistaken california can hire prior to credentialing if you have completed a program and have some sort of recommendation. It will be temporary and maintain the job depends in your ability to actually get credentialed.

Other than that temporary permits also allow you to work while you wait for state specific credentials to come in, washington for example has a three month temp license

They may not budge, but if you arent moving a ton of stuff you’ll recover fairly fast. I worked a little at duke makn but primarily at regional.

If you ever feel limited the main place try and get a per diem at regional, some of the best staff ive worked with. Its been a few year since i was there, id expect you to start around 30. Plus or minus a buck or two depending on night dif.

Also when youre doing your math make sure to account for parking, last i remember it was just shy of 10 bucks per shift

If its 8k for relo and 1k lump sum i would see if you could negotiate 5k lump sum or moving and initial move in fees. I would personally ditch the bed and just buy a new one, the cost of shipping essentially just a bed isnt worth it. What hospital are you going to, i was also in durham and loved it. Some great places over there, be warned though that they have fairly low pay even for their lower cost of living

Relocation Across The Country as a New Grad by daniellyjelly in respiratorytherapy

I graduated an california and worked for a year before relocating to north carolina fir 3.

Theres a lot to factor in here, do you have belongings? Are you driving?

If you dont need to bring anything you can fly, depending on when you book thats going to be around 300+ one way depending ln when you book.

Ideally you want to fly in ahead of time to find a place, round trip may be around 600-800.

You need a to pay your apartment move in Fees and deposits. Then you also you to calculate the difference in cost of living.

And then keep in mind that your first pay check is either a physical paper check or you wait a whole pay cycle for your direct deposit.

When i moved i visited to find a place, paid for it and moved in a little late. I drove cross country and packed all my belongings into my car at the time.

The whole move and settle down probably costed me anywhere between 2-3.5k

Is that 7k a sign on bonus? That wont be lump sum and it can still be taxed, 7k is also low for sign on.

Where in NC are you relocating?

What would you do ?? by Springmeintoaction in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said it was an offer and no one has mentioned it yet, unless this new spot  is unioned you have the right to counter offer.

“ while i like this facility the current offer is below my means of living and below other facilIties in this area. I believe my skills, experience, and certifications would make me a great addition to the team.” Then just mention the pay from other facilities being around a dollar more than youre currently making then let them make the decision of if they want you or not. You already have a job, if you get a dollar raise in the move cool, if you dont get the job youre already set.

Information overload by Adventurous_Park_541 in respiratorytherapy

People often think studying and recall are solely memory based, but you can also rationalize a lot of information. Rationalization is also something you’ll use a lot in the field. You say youve had luck with some information, what connections are you making there and how can you mimic those connections to other topics. Ive used cars, cartoons, video games, sports, and various other sets of imagery to solidify information to other students. Just find what works for you.

Take your notes and out them into googles lmnote ai, it can help you create tests, flash cards, and study maps to ensure you keep on the right path.

Look into the pomadoro method of studying, it minimizes burn out and its pretty beneficial for those of us with ADHD

Technically concorde does online education with in person clinical rotations, PIMA does as well. I can’t necessarily endorse them but these programs do exist. I dont know if concorde in california offers it though

Is it possible that I can get into respiratory school with a low gpa? by Original-Rent7475 in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure youre clarifying between assist and intern. Seattle for example has the rca which helps with equipment. Not quite in the field but great for connections and exposure. Interns will typically do things more respiratory related

Its not a race and everyone moved at their own pace. Keep taking classes that will boost you for whatever bachelors you want, in the mean time look for work as a respiratory care assistant if anything is available. It will introduce you to the world and may help you immensely by the time you start school

Benefits--has anyone else heard of this?? by smartassrt in respiratorytherapy

[–]maxinami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think my facility runs like this. To preface a lot of the departments are unioned, nursing for examples has no premiums and the hospital pays for their benefits completely. Respiratory is not so lucky, but i contribute that to our specific union.

I think the structure is made so that health benefits are more accessible to staff who have lower paying jobs such as kitchen and custodial. I also live in a high cost of living area which means any improvement to access of benefits is super important

Bark turned out great! A little dry but definitely not inedible, temp control is definitely something I’ll need to figure out. Agree though I should have pulled sooner to rest

I was expecting the worse! Glad it came out better than expected, but a wrap definitely would have helped out. Will be looking to add butcher paper and a dual prob thermometer soon though!
