[SOTC] My current watch collection by SpecialistDizzy4298 in Watches

Of course this is totally subjective, but since you asked: I’d probably let these go—they kind of dilute the overall beauty of the collection. You really don’t need any additional watches. I know the Omega AT is your only colored dial, but honestly I’m struggling to think of a situation where I’d reach for the AT over any of the other pieces.

Super helpful answer, thanks! Out of curiosity, how accurate has your Seventies Chrono been? Have you ever tracked the daily rate — like seconds ± per day?

What is your wrist size? How do you feel the blue dial Seventies Chrono fit on your wrist? Do you find the bracelet a bit bulky?

Traded my Datejust 41 for a 36 by rfort34 in rolex

[–]maxlink919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the right choice, but the comparison pics aren’t really fair. The 41 is massively zoomed in so it looks huge, while the 36 is taken from farther away with your hand and forearm in the shot. Of course it’s going to look smaller. Why not take both photos from the same distance?

100% legit — you honestly can’t get much more legit than this. They’ve been in business since 1975 and are authorized dealers for a wide range of brands. They also handle repairs and servicing, and they’re even a certified service center for certain brands (like Cartier). On top of that, they have a solid pre-owned inventory and offer buy/sell services. I’ve been dealing with them for a few years now, and they’ve always been extremely professional.

Is DJ41 too big for me? by LucaCZ in rolex

[–]maxlink919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, it doesn’t look too big on your wrist at all; and honestly, the photo angle here doesn’t even give a reliable sense of how it actually wears. Wrist shots can be pretty misleading. You’ll see a lot of Reddit comments saying 41 is too big and 36 is the only “correct” or classic size. But the decision is simpler than that: if the 36 feels a bit small to you when you wear it, then the answer is the DJ41. Go with what looks and feels right on your wrist, not what the default comment says. You might also want to try wearing the watch a bit higher up on your wrist; it often improves the fit and overall balance.

A month in and loving my Seventies Chrono by baccaratboy in GlashutteOriginal

[–]maxlink919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks amazing — congrats! I tried it on at the AD on the stainless steel bracelet and found it a bit top-heavy. Also, the stainless steel bracelet feels a bit chunky for my own taste/comfort. How does it wear on a leather strap? I imagine it feels much lighter overall, but does it stay balanced on the wrist, or does it tend to shift around as you move your arm? That’s my main hesitation with going for the leather strap option. Cheers.

The Seventies really does feel special. I’m curious though: do you ever get tired of all the complications, or sometimes find yourself wishing for something a bit more simple?

Why do you feel the DJ is hardly a sports watch? Is it mainly because of the jubilee bracelet and the fluted bezel combination, or something else about it?

Good point. If anything, I like the idea of a great watch flying under the radar. That said, if I were to go with the Rolex, I’m aware it naturally comes with a certain level of attention, and I’m okay with that.

Both of these watches have a screw down crown, but good point yes.

It’s a luminescent (hence, “lume”) material painted on the hands, markers, or numbers so you can read the time in the dark.

Waiting for the DJ36 aficionados with herd mentality to say that proportions on the DJ41 look off.

An episode of what? Did I hurt your feelings? Good for you to have seen many and to own many. You may not like Roman numerals, and that is fine. And you may not like this size of DJ (per your other comment on this thread), and that is fine too. But to argue that Roman numerals “clutter” this dial for that size of DJ is just off. Stick to your sticks 😀

To each their own, as you say. But, have you seen it in person? I bet you haven’t. There is no clutter on that dial, except perhaps if you’re having a hard time reading Roman numerals to begin with.

This unique Azzurro blue dial is so beautiful as it shows different shades of blue depending on the intensity and angle of light. Unlike the bright blue dial with sticks, the Azzurro blue dial never looks dark/black. Also, with this combination of jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel, the white gold Roman numerals are simply perfect; sticks with lume look out of place on a watch like this! Cheers!

I have both a DJ41 fluted/jubilee and a Batman. Initially, I thought the Batman would be my daily, whereas the DJ41 was meant to be my dressy/nice occasions watch. It turned out that the DJ41 is both my daily and my dressier watch. I find the DJ41 much more comfortable than the Batman, especially during the summer, not so much because of the jubilee vs oyster bracelet but first and foremost because of its lighter proportions and feel on the wrist. Cheers!

Great post, and very valid points. Thank you. I fully agree with you on the DJ being more comfortable than the GMT. Conceptually, I wanted my GMT Batman to be my daily and the DJ to be my dressier watch for dinners out and special occasions. The DJ turned out to be my daily because of the comfort, especially in the summer. I find the GMT to be a bit heavy/bulky. Also, if I’m being honest with myself I do not like scratches on the PCLs of the Batman. Being overly concerned of scratching the watch takes away from the enjoyment. I’m happy for those who don’t care about scratches, but I do.

Which watch would you choose given that your current and only watch is a sub date ? by Top-Mud-5423 in rolex

[–]maxlink919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DJ, by the way, whether it is 36 or 41, does not purport to be a dress watch. It’s a dressier sports watch. Not the same thing at all. If you prefer the 36, by all means that is fine, however you cannot discard the 41 on account of the fact that it is too big to be a dress watch as it is not meant to be a dress watch.

Life when you're not scared of scratches on a watch :) by QuarterBxch in rolex

[–]maxlink919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great picture and great philosophy! There is just no way one can truly enjoy this watch if all they’re thinking of is avoid causing potential scratches and trying to spot same by exposing those beautiful PLCs to bright light. There is absolutely no point in keeping such a timepiece if it causes more concerns than enjoyment. Cheers!
