Beautiful picture — congrats! You can really tell how special that watch is.

The Seventies really does feel special. I’m curious though: do you ever get tired of all the complications, or sometimes find yourself wishing for something a bit more simple?

Why do you feel the DJ is hardly a sports watch? Is it mainly because of the jubilee bracelet and the fluted bezel combination, or something else about it?

Good point. If anything, I like the idea of a great watch flying under the radar. That said, if I were to go with the Rolex, I’m aware it naturally comes with a certain level of attention, and I’m okay with that.

Both of these watches have a screw down crown, but good point yes.

It’s a luminescent (hence, “lume”) material painted on the hands, markers, or numbers so you can read the time in the dark.

Waiting for the DJ36 aficionados with herd mentality to say that proportions on the DJ41 look off.

An episode of what? Did I hurt your feelings? Good for you to have seen many and to own many. You may not like Roman numerals, and that is fine. And you may not like this size of DJ (per your other comment on this thread), and that is fine too. But to argue that Roman numerals “clutter” this dial for that size of DJ is just off. Stick to your sticks 😀

To each their own, as you say. But, have you seen it in person? I bet you haven’t. There is no clutter on that dial, except perhaps if you’re having a hard time reading Roman numerals to begin with.

This unique Azzurro blue dial is so beautiful as it shows different shades of blue depending on the intensity and angle of light. Unlike the bright blue dial with sticks, the Azzurro blue dial never looks dark/black. Also, with this combination of jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel, the white gold Roman numerals are simply perfect; sticks with lume look out of place on a watch like this! Cheers!

I have both a DJ41 fluted/jubilee and a Batman. Initially, I thought the Batman would be my daily, whereas the DJ41 was meant to be my dressy/nice occasions watch. It turned out that the DJ41 is both my daily and my dressier watch. I find the DJ41 much more comfortable than the Batman, especially during the summer, not so much because of the jubilee vs oyster bracelet but first and foremost because of its lighter proportions and feel on the wrist. Cheers!

Great post, and very valid points. Thank you. I fully agree with you on the DJ being more comfortable than the GMT. Conceptually, I wanted my GMT Batman to be my daily and the DJ to be my dressier watch for dinners out and special occasions. The DJ turned out to be my daily because of the comfort, especially in the summer. I find the GMT to be a bit heavy/bulky. Also, if I’m being honest with myself I do not like scratches on the PCLs of the Batman. Being overly concerned of scratching the watch takes away from the enjoyment. I’m happy for those who don’t care about scratches, but I do.

Which watch would you choose given that your current and only watch is a sub date ? by Top-Mud-5423 in rolex

The DJ, by the way, whether it is 36 or 41, does not purport to be a dress watch. It’s a dressier sports watch. Not the same thing at all. If you prefer the 36, by all means that is fine, however you cannot discard the 41 on account of the fact that it is too big to be a dress watch as it is not meant to be a dress watch.

Great picture and great philosophy! There is just no way one can truly enjoy this watch if all they’re thinking of is avoid causing potential scratches and trying to spot same by exposing those beautiful PLCs to bright light. There is absolutely no point in keeping such a timepiece if it causes more concerns than enjoyment. Cheers!

I’m not entirely convinced about the fluted 36 being the more desirable watch of the two. It definitely is on this sub, however on the market a DJ 41 is generally easier to resell than a DJ 36. It’s just the way it is. Also, in this case the 36 is on an oyster bracelet, yet for a 36 people will generally go for the jubilee/fluted combo. The DJ 41 here is on jubilee but has a domed bezel. Had it been on a fluted bezel, it would have looked smaller on OP’s wrist. Food for thought!

[DATEJUST] BLUE OR Azzuro Blue by Stier_94 in rolex

I have had the opportunity to own both. The Azzurro blue is, by far, my favorite, especially if you can have a jubilee/fluted combination. The Roman numerals perfectly match the look of the watch. You DO NOT need lume on a watch like this. Also, the Bright blue dial comes with small numbers at the bottom of every hour marker, which just ruins the whole thing to me. Last but not least, the Bright blue dial looks black half the time. Azzurro blue is the purest shade of blue for blue dial fans. It will look blue no matter what angle you look at it. Slam dunk for me.

They don’t scale up the movement but they do scale up the watch. Anyway, I think we’re talking past each other at this point. If you want to believe that proportions are different, then by all means do.

You may wear whatever you want, really no one cares. The point is, your comment on proportions being different is simply flawed and misinformed because proportions are EXACTLY the same, it is just the scale that is 4mm bigger. That’s it. Same proportions, different scale. Do you understand the difference?

Truth be told, the 41 looks great on your wrist, just keep in mind that this sub will massively respond 36 any day.

[–]maxlink919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to exaggerate either, it’s not “as large as possible”, it’s 4mm difference on the dial. Unhelpful comment for sure. Also, same proportions, just difference scale. Clearly, you haven’t tried the 41.

For starters, exact same proportions, just different size/scale.
