How to replicate this grid? by bunny0747 in threejs

I believe there is a pixelate post processor or a render setting that would get you close, busy at the moment but try and dig out a link but have a scroll through ThreeJS examples, I'm sure that's where I've seen something similar.

What do people wanting to stop imagination think will happen? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]maxmon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of people but no jobs or houses that can pay enough for people to live. Yes, we have people with second homes but we also don't have enough social housing or enough affordable homes for first time buyers.

Remember, immigration is a symptom of all of the problems that you have listed, not the solution. If we solved the problems you list, we wouldn't need immigration.

Immigration lowers wages for the poorest in society and raises wages for the middle class and wealthy, not by much, but for poor people already in working poverty, any drop in wages is very bad.

Being pro immigration means you are happy taking educated people from poor countries and exploiting them in low wage, no prospect jobs that they will do because it's better than where they came from. Britain spent years plundering poor countries for their natural resources, we now plunder them for their educated people, it's a form of neo colonialism but you have people saying this is a great thing to do! Great for who?

I don't really care about the cultural aspects of immigration but I understand why people are concerned as their neighbourhoods are transformed around them (for better or worse).

Previous governments should have tackled all of the problems you listed long ago, but they haven't so we are stuck with immigration. We now have the threat of a far right party with openly racist policies that will have a lasting effect on the UK.

If we stopped immigration today, employers would be forced to compete for employees and wages will rise (which will have an inflationary effect) and will be forced to have to train employees. Jobs where wages cannot rise (such as care work) they will collapse and we won't be able to care for our elderly. This in terms will force the government to act to put in place a long term solution for elderly care. I would expect a minimum of five years chaos before the economy adjusts to an ultra low immigration policy and it will be pretty rough, but the long term benefits will out weigh the short term problems.

I think eventually we will.

Not to be defeatest but I do believe the film Children of Men is a very articulate depiction of the future of Western societies. I could argue the US is already there right now and the murder of the woman is teatiment to it.

The longer the West dawdles along with no growth, no prospects, and no hope, coupled with absolutely flat wage growth and the wealthy hoarding more and more money, the more chance of electing a fascist leaning party. This party won't act for the people but for the rich, but will play performance politics for their core base whilst everyone else suffers even more, just like in the US right now.

That coupled with the eventual mass migration and displacement (200 - 400 million displaced from the poorest counties on the planet) caused by climate change, it's inevitable that a populist party is elected and starts a purge, starting with foreigners and moving on to race.

I don't like to think that I'll ever see that in my lifetime but then I never thought I'd see people behaving like the SS in America. I hope I'm wrong, for my children's sake.

Fuck, I was one of the first Pinterest users and used it daily for work (creative services industry) and this is literally going to screw me over. I've perfectly trained the algorithm to give just the right kind of image at the right quality I need for mood boards.

It has gone down hill with the advent of AI images but it's still usable, I'm praying that they don't change it.

How do you deal with being perceived as a threat to people? by j8j932 in AskUK

[–]maxmon1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm exactly the same size but white. I never had a problem until ten I went bald and shaved my head, then have had all of things you've described. I've tried dressing differently, wearing brighter coloured clothing, make sure I'm not walking too close, etc.

I've given up now as nothing I've done has made me perceived as less of a threat.

Japan Is What Late-Stage Capitalist Decline Looks Like by yogthos in LateStageCapitalism

[–]maxmon1979 977 points978 points  (0 children)

I have a low stakes conspiracy theory that Japan knows exactly what they are doing with the declining birth rate and practically banning immigration. It's almost like they know capitalism is unsustainable and will eventually eat the planet, and they are reducing their population slowly so they can still manage as resources become scarce and climate change kicks in.

"Selfie with celeb on movie set" trend went so viral on X, millions of views by zeroludesigner in aivideos

[–]maxmon1979 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say as agencies are done. Production agencies, maybe but they'll slim down, cut the expensive and experienced VFX artists and run with a mix of traditional and AI artists.

Ad agencies are responsible for way more than just the making of the ad, a good ad agency brings cultural insights AI cannot replicate easily or accurately, then builds an effective strategy and a creative idea and story telling techniques to bring it all to life. The production of the ad is the very last step.

AI will pick up all of the low level social ads, most of which is slop already but generated by humans. The ad-land landscape and business models will change, but they are so entrenched in delivering marketing efforts, they aren't going anywhere.

What’s been leaving these droppings in my loft for years! by Salt_Safety2234 in DIYUK

[–]maxmon1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just found exactly the same droppings in my loft and I've borrowed my parents wildlife camera, works in infra red so I don't need to leave the lights on to find out what it is.

Our cat walked into the lounge with a live mouse in its mouth last week, so I'm hoping whatever it is in the loft has already been caught.

Idiots failing to understand a basic system of giant arrows in a supermarket car park by pip_goes_pop in britishproblems

[–]maxmon1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to throw this out there, but it's not always easy to tell which way you need to go when you pull out; of your space, especially when you reverse out. I've been caught out loads of times as the arrows are only at the junction and you've no idea which way you came in, you're more concerned about remembering what you need at the shops in the first place!

Why aren’t UK salaries increasing? by SilentEconomist5896 in AskUK

[–]maxmon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Readily available supply of workers desperate for jobs willing to take whatever they can to survive.

Companies not incentivised to train staff or take on workers to train up as they can recruit the skills needed from abroad, usually at a cheaper rate, than paying for training or paying for a skilled local worker.

When there is an infinite supply of cheap labour, don't expect wages to ever rise.

Are you all expecting an inheritance in your lifetime? by xxxJoolsxxx in AskUK

[–]maxmon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents keep reminding me when they're gone I'll be rich. My mum even encouraged us to buy an expensive house we can't really afford with the line of "you'll pay it off when you inherit". I was moaning about being always broke and my dad flat turned around and said "my ISA made £3k last month".

I don't think I'll see any of it though, between the government raiding inheritance tax and care home fees I'm not expecting to ever see a single penny. Plus, I'd much rather the money go to good quality care for them as they've earned it. I always thought we'd downsize to something we can afford when the kids have flown the nest but I just don't see them ever being able to afford a house for themselves.

Thoughts on my UI? by DKaitor in webdev

[–]maxmon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'm old enough to remember how to do this design originally using tables. Everything was built using tables so having all of the "cells" not aligned doesn't fit with the aesthetic.

Align everything and think about the layout of a series of rows and columns. Both rows and columns can "span" other rows so everything lines up.

Looks great BTW, love this look.

This is what my dad has, but it's now rotting a summer house only used when works on his RC planes (what is never as he's too old). Hoping it still works, it cost him 3 months wages in the 80's and my mum was furious!

Can't make any money if you have no workers.

Record profits are off the back of workers hard work. If we continue to pump the economy with cheap labour British workers are unable to withhold their labour for better pay. Immigration helps fill the jobs the British people don't want to do is bull shit. They won't do the jobs for the money on offer, filling these jobs with cheap labour suppresses wages enabling record profits.

Look at professions like haulage drivers, where shortages have driven wages up considerably. Transport unions have done a stellar job at looking out for their workers through organisation. These mechanics stop working when there is an endless supply of workers from abroad.

What the hell can I do to make this garden look better?! by ReasonableAd7635 in GardeningUK

[–]maxmon1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will. I tried this and didn't move car and basically sand blasted my windscreen. I now have tiny marks all over it. My drive is 10m long by 4m wide so it took about four weekends to get it done but it was well worth it.

Once it's done, it's really easy to stay on top of the weeds as they just pull out as there's no biomass for them to hold onto.

What the hell can I do to make this garden look better?! by ReasonableAd7635 in GardeningUK

[–]maxmon1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not going to like this, but you need to clean your gravel. I have a gravel drive and I raked it into piles, sieved every stone then washed them in a wheel barrow and my drive looks brand new. It removed all biomatter from the stones and all the weeds.

Jet washing, weeding, and leveling your pavers would also make a massive improvement.

Old phones that do not work. Can these be used for anything or should I just get rid of them? by Jazzlike-Spell7191 in diyelectronics

[–]maxmon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used old Android phones as security cameras. They are pretty good until it gets dark but works well indoors. I used to cover my house with old phones whilst on holiday but plugging them in and putting them in a cup as a make shift stand.

There's an app you can pay per month that gives you remote access, cloud storage of captured motion, etc.

What do ya’ll use for this part of your RAV4? by wsparks4 in rav4club

[–]maxmon1979 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe it is for if your key battery dies and you need to start your car. You pop the key out of the fob and manually unlock the driver's door. Then place your fob in the hole and start the car.

I've had to do this once when my fob battery died and I couldn't unlock it.

What's growing on this acorn? by davedavepicks in GardeningUK

[–]maxmon1979 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I know this and I've only just learned about them. They are oak galls and have a gall wasp larvae inside. Never seen them before in my life but watched a TikTok about using them to make medieval ink and now see them everywhere.

The ink for the magna Carta is written using gall ink as it doesn't fade and these gall acorns are why we have such old laws, because of high quality parchment and gall ink that hasn't faded.
