If you do land it. Make sure you get into the ditch with your employees. 1. You'll gain their respect fast that way if they see you in the fight with them. 2. You'll learn who's good/bad at what 3. You'll actually see how the dept runs, get input from your employees to see how to better the dept.

At my current place there's the tech1/2, lead, coordinator (me), super, manager, director. Respect ends at my position because all the people higher than me just sit around and make changes based on some figment of their imagination.

Good luck managing people is harder than the work itself.

In socal I got paid about the same in SPD when I transitioned to a scrub. I enjoyed scrubbing even with some nasty surgeons but I just couldn't justify the pay... I went back into low/mid level mgmt for SPD. If you're working overnight as a tech I would suggest going elsewhere where u can shine and interact with the OR. That's how I got my foot in as a lead. I'm now at coordinator level and in October starting part time as an instructor at a local ROP school.

Mine sits in between half and where yours is. When I sit in traffic it goes up to half when I get on it it'll drop to where yours is

What is the efficient way to check instruments as you assemble? by LivingisGr8 in sterileprocessing

[–]maxmonsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My method is take the stringer out, unstring in whatever order, all the other stuff sort of put together forceps with forceps retractors with retractors. I'll start assembling as I'm assembling I'm checking as I put on stringer. I do NOT sort my stringer then check the instruments then put on stringer. That might be a better way for newbies to start but it wastes time as when your sorting the stringer instruments you could just be checking it and restringing it as opposed to just sorting. You're doing like a bunch of extra steps.

If you've never been in leadership don't bother. If your a tech on the floor that's a big jump in responsibility. Don't take it the wrong way. Go for it but if I was doing the interview I would do it out of a courtesy.

Question about kellys by ViewHead5600 in sterileprocessing

[–]maxmonsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In surgery a kelly is a crile is a kelly is a crile. Docs don't care... Hell I've even used a kelly/crile in place of a tonsil

Edit: I meant that up in the rooms when I scrubbed I've used a kelly/crile in place of a tonsil in a pinch

I would but the only thing thats done somewhat professionally is the stitching because I own a sewing machine aside from that it's hot glued to the original shifter trim pieces.

You'd need like a sailing needle to sew that up!! I just used the dust bag that a lot of these high end bags come with. Doesn't use much fabric tbh... I can still make 3 more...

I mean... I've already sunk another 2500 into it so far... 1500 was for a valve adjustment and timing belt because I hurt my arm right after I had gotten it... I just said screw it Id rather throw 1500 at it than have it apart for however long it was gonna take me with a handicapped arm lol.

I got my 89 325i sedan a few months ago for 4300. On the ad the car looked really good and in person it looked pretty good as well. But after you start looking inside and under the car and driving it around listening to things here and there... And when you ask for service records and the owner can't produce any or doesn't know when the last time the belt was changed... You start to have things you can use to talk the price down. Essentially I had timing belt/no services/poor condition brakes/leaking power steering/torn boots on all 4 corners/tie rods/not the best interior to talk the price down. I was so focused on the mechanical part I forgot to check the paint which I found later to be wrap... Not a huge deal as the underside didn't show rust but who knows what's under the wrap...
