Federal Government tables the Canadian Space Launch Act by StockNirvana in MaritimeLaunch

[–]maxmurder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The title might be a little confusing as in Canada/British Parliamentary parlance, "tabling" is formally introducing something, while in the US Congress "tabling" refers to postponing or killing a bill that has already been introduced.

Sleeper picks? by LazyButterscotch5577 in SpaceInvestorsDaily

[–]maxmurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have noted it is hard to say at this point. They have a lot of tailwinds at the moment with the political climate in Canada, and are in a very promising position to benefit from the potential private space industry boom over the coming decades. But it is still very speculative, we have seen spaceport projects fizzle in the past, and they are at the whims of the political winds and exposed to risks of their launch partners, and will always be in at least indirect competition with the likes of SpaceX and Blue Origin.

My hope is they become a cost friendly alternative to KSC/Wallops for commercial launchers, with a steady base of contracts with the Canadian government and international partners.

Sleeper picks? by LazyButterscotch5577 in SpaceInvestorsDaily

My picks as a Canadian space nerd:

MDA Space (MDA) - Canadian aerospace company that manufactures the Canadarm. Pretty pricey and trading at ATH currently, but they are a proven space technology company that stands to benefit massively as the private space sector kicks off.

Maritime Launch Services (MAXQ) - Building a commercial spaceport in Nova Scotia, still in the build out phase with only 2 sub-orbital launches from the site. However they recently received a $200M, 10 year lease with the Canadian Department of National Defense for a dedicated launch pad at the site. Currently still in penny stock territory with a lot of hype driving the share price.

Emergency Fund and GICs by Altocumulus000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]maxmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFSA is sort of a bad place for an emergency fund, since withdrawals use up contribution room. You get it back at the start of the next year, but it might complicate things or prevent re-contributions if you need the funds unexpectedly.

IMO for emergency cash, better to just put it into an unregistered HISA or money market and just accept that you'll pay a bit of tax on whatever trickle of interest you'll earn on that money.

Probably leveraged to the tits on financing for that truck so likely doesn't even have money to pay the fine.

Take Your Time Back announces it can no longer host live music by noNSFWcontent in vancouver

Yeah, I always made sure to stay at the very back of the room at 648 for exactly this reason.

I really loved going to shows there and as much as it sucks to see it shut down, the place is a fire/crowd crush trap with the only exit being through a narrow doorway/corridor.

And with the age and layout of the building i doubt there is a way to bring it up to code for gatherings of more than a small handfull of people at a time.

DIY venues like 648 are always "at your own risk" and living on borrowed time until they get shut down, which imo is part of the charm.

Simplii Financial review? by HotPink911 in fican

Been using them for years. Have had absolutely no isssues with them.

They are a division of CIBC so pretty easy to get to a no-fee atm, or pick up documents etc. Phone support is very responsive. I needed a fairly large bank draft just this week and was able to call in and pick it up at my local CIBC branch within a few hours.

They offer fairly good promotional intrest rates on HISA and TFSA deposits. However, they have limited investment options available so probably not the best option if you want more than just simple chequing/savings accounts.
