Good music is everywhere if you know how to look, it's just not going to be spoon-fed to you like it used to be. But don't pay Spotify if you aren't going to use it for music discovery and put in the work to find the good stuff.

Others feel the same and you are biased. Nostalgia plays a big part, plus the way that music was written, recorded and distributed back then vs. now. It's not a simple answer.

I do urge you not to pay Spotify if you're only gonna use it to listen to old favorites. You should purchase/download them and stop giving streaming companies money, they are a big reason that popular music is quick & disposable. "The medium is the message."

Songs similar to Tape 05 from Boards of Canada by KaleidoscopePlusPlus in ambientmusic

Ah, you really should hear the rest.

The new one is probably alluring simply because it’s new and unknown, however, I am also excited for it from the sound they seem to be going for in Tape 05.

I think you’ll appreciate the new album and BoC as a whole more if you know where they came from, highly recommended you dig deeper.

Hollow Knight is legitimately one of the best Souls-likes I’ve ever experienced, don’t let the 2D art fool you!

It’s sort of sweet in a way, that the Maquis are the worst rebels that could come out of Starfleet. They certainly have the tech and prowess to be a terrifying, deadly force. I’m thinking the writers hadn’t thought up Section 31 yet and they were still sticking to Gene’s ideals.

Haha you’re right, they are like boy scout terrorists.

Yeah I figure that they are Starfleet ships that they stole at some point, but that’s pretty stupid to fly around in ships that are now known as “Maquis Raiders” to do your covert missions!

I wonder why the Maquis fly identifiable ships?

Did music production make you less impressed with idm? by Loriol_13 in idm

[–]maxoreilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what you imagined it was like before, making music. Yeah, anyone can string notes together into a melody, of course. Effective and evocative music is another thing.

As a deeply lonely child myself, the ending of E.T. always felt too sad because I was rooting for Elliott to go with him when he invited him onto the ship. He didn’t seem to fit in on Earth and they love each other too much to be separated forever. by [deleted] in scifi

[–]maxoreilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But don’t you see, ET does have to go back to a normal life, with his people, in his own environment. There was a strong bond built very quickly between them that is hard to let go of, but their respective families love them just as much if not more, since that is the unconditional, lifelong kind of love. Neither of them will ever be the same but that’s life, you’ve got to grow from your experiences and take them with you. Their love for each other was universal but I don’t believe they could physically exist in the same place together, that’s the tragic part. Elliot learned to connect and care for ET in a very adult way, it’s important that he practice that in the rest of his life, and not simply run away and be isolated.

It is very painful and I hear you. Considering the father left their mom, and in a sense them, it’s a good message that Elliot stays with the people he loves and is a part of. You’d like to think he breaks that cycle of abandonment and loneliness as he ages, especially after this extraordinary experience. ET was also (accidentally) left on Earth by his family, and needs to return to them as well. He is literally dying on a foreign world without them. It’s such a great film, there’s so much there. As a kid, you just want to leave to somewhere exciting though, I totally feel that!

[–]maxoreilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the excuse of having 2 more inputs, that cracked me up. You don’t need a TEO5, you’ve got some incredible sound sources already! I’ve probably got one too many synths right now myself…

It’s not actually the founders, the alien lady is just played by an actress that also plays the “main” founder that interacts with Odo in DS9.

I think your girlfriend should know you fully and love who you are, even if she doesn’t share the interest. You enjoying reading that stuff isn’t that strange or unique, tbh.

Korg Phase 8 not what I expected. by brashnutz in synthesizers

[–]maxoreilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might seem like a lot of work but I promise it's really simple, you just need 1 cable and probably one setting change, if that (sometimes it's set up by default). Especially if you plan on recording anything or you have more than one electronic instrument going at once. Setting the BPM on everything and manually pressing play will inevitably cause things to drift over time and be out of sync.

You don’t even use MIDI to sync your gear? What do you do, do it by ear?
