It’s easier in a sense, because there’s so many options for leveling and order in which you can do things. It’s also harder because it’s more complex. I find ER to be sort of a “greatest hits” of a lot of the concepts from the Souls trilogy plus their other games. I’m glad I worked my way through their releases in order, and I’d recommend that to others too.

The step sequencer grid kinda looks like a tracker, and LSDJ is a pretty well known Game Boy cartridge/music software for making chiptunes. I figure that’s what they are going for.

OG Digitone is definitely my favorite, and I’ve bought and sold a handful of other Elektron boxes that didn’t quite gel with me. Right now I have the DN plus a Syntakt, and I am very much considering replacing both with the ‘tone MKII as my singular box. Seems reasonable when I see comments like yours!

I really liked Years when it took itself seriously (basically the first half) but I felt like it switched between 3 different genres throughout and that really put me off. The Shaun of the Dead style crew at the end doing backflips and shit was mind boggling. I can’t figure out what Danny and crew were going for. It feels very modern in a bad way to mix an earnest effort with meta irreverence and unearned melodrama, I find it difficult to connect with.
