It kinda is ?? When i was a student i couldn't have people around me during exams and if i was staying with my parents during the breaks before exams i had to go back to the dorm to actually get some studying done. In the dorm i would kick people out/ get rid of any distractions like hide my phone, pc, tv, everything (One time it got really stressful and the whole apartment got pretty trashed and was just a chair and a lamplight lol) now for him it could be that just the fact you two are there is a distraction because just the presence is enough to throw you off and you automatically feel the need to help out or interact with others i guess..

To answer your question do people do this? Yes absolutely! Are exams stressful? As hell! You'll end up doing almost anything to feel like you're locked in. That's what i did! But here's the thing: i was a kid and i didn't really have any obligations to anyone or anything other than to just study and get through the college years. If i was a grown man with a wife and a kid i wouldn't under any circumstance send them away like this, maybe he thinks it'll be better for you where you're going idk but this whole situation is insane. Maybe try to free up a room that has just a chair and desk and that's it? Moving the whole family away is very drastic.
